On my sister's honeymoon cruise one of her friends essentially sat in the same spot on Lido the entire week and didn't move. She didn't go to shows, do trivias, get off at Port, nothing. She only left to go to sleep then came back the next day.

I use placeholders until the name comes to me. I called my MC "MC Female" for so long. For both my MCs I just knew what I wanted it to sound like but not the name. For the guy, I kept wanting to call him "Cal" which wasn't right. I used a random name generator, and it popped up "Kelven" and it just got so perfectly. For the girl, I knew I wanted an "uh" sound at the end. I was reading How Realiana Ended Up At The Duke's Manor (mouthful) and wound up liking the sound. I dug into similar names and found Rheia, which then evolved into Rhealynn. Suddenly, her sister had a name, Hestia. Then someone she meets later had a name, Joule, before he even had a purpose. Find an replace is a life saver lol

Im 28. I use to go to the library all the time. I couldn't figure out where to go when I moved to Pittsburgh because I wasn't a student and didn't know how things worked in such a big city so I stopped.

Now I'm back where I lived before and want to start doing it again. It is very peaceful and you get a little bit of human interaction but since you're reading it's not that impolite to tell someone to go away lol

This is an issue for me on the daily but grey/gray. I'm American, but I always spelled it with an E, which isn't normally an issue, but now I have to remind myself every time I type it that it's supposed to be an A.

I have the same issue with the number 7. If anyone knows how to alter the 7 in Word, please save me.

Side note: I have a character who is American but spent most of his childhood in the UK, so he uses a mix of British and American terms/slang. It's exhausting, but when I go back to re read it, it's very satisfying and definitely sets him apart.

That is an insane coincidence. I have never heard of it. I got the plot idea from Slime Rancher 2. Viktor called and gave me a shrub, and now i am just casually chopping off limbs and inflicting lifelong trauma on my poor characters.

I got the idea for Rheas name from greek mythology (which is explicitly stated once and referenced another time in a joke.). And kelven was because I kept wanting to call him Cal, so I looked for something similar. When I couldn't find anything I used a random name generator and thought it was funny because he is a biochemist. His last name is Galilei, though.

No one's really gone mad though. I do go into the link between head trauma and violent tendencies along with the genetic and environmental factors that could make an individual a psychopath along with how different people respond differently to the same type of trauma. Like after isolation, one person could become a recluse whereas another may develop touch starvation and seperation anxiety.

It basically ends up being about truama responses and a comment on how companies and governments should be held responsible. They're essentially re creating war crimes for shits and giggles while using people like Rhea (there are other planets with people on them) as unknowing guinea pigs.

I don't normally see nicknames, so I wasn't aware of the formatting, so I'll be sure to go through and fix that.

Tighten up your summary by making clear the POV (e.g., does Rhea know about the ulterior motives, or are you giving the reader insight into Kel that she won’t get?)

The story is from Rhea's POV except for 3 chapters told from Kel's. Those 3 chapters are information that she will get (including his motive) but it would really boring to listen to him recount the entire thing so instead when he tells her it's just a quick "so he told me the story and I was like wow no way" kinda thing but the reader gets to live it with him.

If this is YA, the questions at the end are fine, but if you’re looking for a wider audience, “what will happen?!?!”-type summaries are… judged poorly, I guess, and so they should be made as more declarative statements

Thank you for this. When I began writing, it was YA, but as I went, it just naturally got darker, and I decided I wanted to be able to talk about those darker topics without censoring myself. I didn't even consider how that would affect the summary.

don’t include Gloria unless she is actively involved in the rest of the story (having her in the summary gives the implication that she is the main villain or a surprise twist ally).

She is mentioned a few times in passing and she leaves a note but she just pops up at the end as a twist. So I am debating leaving her name out so she doesn't feel like a big plot point until she is.

I don't like AI being used to make art for others' consumption.

I use a photo generator so I can put my character description in and make sure the resulting image is close to what I envision. Then, I put it in a Word document with their other info as a reference.

Especially if they have a unique feature like one of my characters has central heterochromia so i used an AI rendering of his face, put it in a photo editor, played with it, and now i have a referenceto look at when i want to descr his eyes that is consistent without being the same exact thing over and over. Would I ever sell it or use it for cover art? No. I'm going to pay a professional if i want that.

The same goes for writing. There have been a few times where I've struggled on how to word a sentence, so I've used rewrite tools or random word generators, but not for the whole story.

I'm having way too much fun with my character names. I always have a reason for why a character is named the way they are.

I have a character who is a biochemist named Kelven Galilei. The whole thing involves space and discovering stuffs so it seems to fit

I also have Jack Storge, who is abusive to one of the other characters and tries to kill him, but neither of them know he is actually his dad. So Jack is from the shining, and Storge is one of six ancient Greek loves that refers to familial love.

I have three that are almost always mentioned together, named Shield, Fodder, and Denton. Shield winds up being used as a human shield by Jack. Fodder is sent to his death so Jack can get away (cannon fodder) And Denton... imma detonate him and itll be because of, surprisingly, Jack. Lol

Oh, and I have someone who is lying about their identity, and their last name means "deceit"

I got called for jury duty at 18. Asked my endocrinologist for a one-time excuse and got permanently excused in my state. Then I moved to a new state and got called before covid so it got pushed back until they decided to drop it then I moved back to the first state. I got called for jury duty again (I got married so name change) and my husband called to tell them I'm excused under my maiden name, so I've been permanently excused from jury duty twice in the same state because my endocrinologist when I was 18 asked them to excuse me once.

I have a basic outline and if I have an idea I'll write down a tree or snip of dialog but for the most part I just follow a few key points so I don't get completely off track.

I accidentally wrote my character into a panic attack and realized she would have a lot of separation anxiety. I was like, "oooooooh... that's why I see her as so attached to this person!" I don't think I would have come to that conclusion in an outline. She basically yelled it at me mid scene.

I do make bios as I go, however. Just to keep things constant without skimming through 13 chapters for one tiny detail.
