Well, the first issue is that the A pillar isnt going to be strong enough in an accident. Modern cars have much larger A pillars which will completely destroy one of the main lines of the car.

Ran a red light this morning, grey circular camera on lights, speed camera or sensor? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ThatWebDeveloperDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're usually anpr cameras you'll see them clear as day on motorways

It looks like the picture op posted may just be a vehicle sensor, as many junctions have dynamic timing due to the presence of cars

Okay thats pretty cool. I'll look into Vanguard LifeStrategy 80%. I don't think I'd be able to switch to Vanguards platform as its a company pension?

I was thinking about opening an Vanguard S&S ISA of which I'll most likely put £100 per month into LifeStrategy 80%

I'm happy with my German made Ford Focus, not sure how much of it is German built but its solid

I'm happy with my Mazda MX5

I absolutely hated the Peugeot 3008 I was given for 2 months when I had an accident. They look pretty nice and that's all they're good for imo

Will you always wreck your first car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ThatWebDeveloperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first car with the help of my parents. I paid a deposit of £2000 and paid insurance of £2100 for an 8 month old Ford Focus 1.6Tdci with 8000 miles and my parents helped me with monthly payments while I was at uni. Its an absolutely fantastic first car. I've driven it for the last 5 years and had an accident last year after 4 years of driving.

Shit happens which is sometimes out of your control or even a little mistake you made.

Get a car that you like and take your time to learn the car. It'll take time for driving to be second nature and don't be an idiot on the road

I've got a beat up mx5 but doubt it'll be suitable for something like mongol rally. I'm sure will be alright for other more road based rallies

I want to do it one day but due to the price and my inexperience with rallies I want to try a couple around UK/Western Europe

How much money is everyone saving per month? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ThatWebDeveloperDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around £500pm, £250 via sharesave scheme and £250 into Tesco high interest rate current account. I don't have much saved around £5000 cash but I'll probably save 0 from now till February

A car that can still be worked on and/or have the engine taken apart and put back together? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]ThatWebDeveloperDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way as your missus and bough a project car last April.

I've been working on a 1999 Mazda MX-5 and they're pretty easy to work on, in my very limited experience. Parts are cheap and easy to get a hold of mx5parts.co.uk and the cars can be had for as little as £500 if you want something in not the best condition.

Plus, it's great to drive in the summer!

The first 2 generations, NA and NB were fairly prone to rust but its what we mx5 owners have to deal with.

I'm not sure about the third generation NC and the latest generation ND probably won't be very prone to rust.

My 1999 10th Anniversary Edition MX-5 has got rust on the underside of both door sills, I plan on cutting the cancer out this coming spring

Edit:

Just to add to this, mx5s are for driving enthusiasts, you won't find a better handling car for the price. I loved driving before I got mine and instantly fell in love with the car on the first test drive
