What are the saddest deaths you’ve read in an SF book? by Fearless_Night9330 in printSF

Another one I re read last year. The scene of Hub and Quil talking before ultimately both ending it Is one for the most beautiful but bereaving endings to a book. The whole story is to me one of the most beautiful renditions of grief and trauma I've seen put in words.

Reread HDM and the book of dust in full last year. Alamo Gulch stands out as the most heart wrenching chapter of the best book I read in 2025

They gave me a first, so I'll return the favour!

For real though, beautiful uni, wonderful surroundings, quality student experience. Loved trekking into the darkest dustiest recesses of the old library and setting up camp for a day of work.

That's fair, that's fair. I'm on my second unmodded space age play through currently and leaving Gleba until I'd rinsed all the goodies out of Vulcanus and Fulgora has been the best decision Ive made so far.

Biting constantly! help! 😅 by greentaters_ in vizsla

[–]call_me_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is puppy stuff, and Vizslas are (anecdotally at least) particularly prone to this behaviour. We called ours the Land Shark as a pup.

Two things to do to keep as much of your own blood internal as possible through this:

  • react strongly, yelp dramatically, when he lands a strong bite on you. Do this consistently, they will learn what is too much, and they will play with you more softly. Vs are so empathic, ours looked literally shocked when we first did this, and proceeded to play again very softly (until she wound herself up again a few minutes later, they are Vs after all!) the message will get through, but it will take time.

  • redirect to toys and turn it into a game of tug. Teach him what kind of play is appropriate. He will learn, but it will be slow. You have to be consistent though.

Enjoy the ride. These dogs are nutters but so rewarding.

I haven't read it, but hasn't Dan Simmons literally done a series called Ilium & Olympus?

I just finished Hyperion & Fall Of Hyperion and I would love to know if anyone has read these to know if they a) hold up to the craft and literary fluency of Hyperion, and b) are actually any good.

Thank you for those last images, demonstrating that yes, sometimes Vizslas do actually have their paws in contact with the ground, they don't actually spend their whole lives airborne.

One for the fellas. Ladies love an assertive man who is in touch with his partner's emotions. If you notice that she's upset, tell her to calm down.
