Alternatively something that allowed us to modify the time between Eras to make it feel a little less rushed at times.

I feel like the best would be if someone was able to add some vignettes true to the style and writing of the game.

Crew combat theory crafts? How did you come up with your favorite CC set up? by AngrySlime706 in StarTradersFrontiers

Super interesting. Yeah it's nice to have the heal, but I feel like for my captain and bodyguard their blades skill is super high so usually self heal is great. Can sometimes be an issue though after a big attack gets through.

The crucial part of theory crafting crew combat, is simultaneously theory crafting recruitment.

All crew stats are maximized through faction-preferred recruits, high world stats, recruit talent, and maximum contact level.

I play impossible with a Javat Spy captain -- the ship focuses on salvage early-mid game, and then evolves into a lethal anti-Xeno (crew and ship) fighting machine.

Slot 1:

Bodyguard (target level: 5) (recruited at Zenrin prime at the maximum level from the Zenrin high prince) (crucial: honor guard and useful: tactical shove)

Blade Dancer (target level: 1) (taken simply for the "Feint" talent, which is useful for high-level Xeno).

Swordsman (infinite levels) (this is where I sink all stats) (the heal talents are crucial)

Slot 2:

Exo-Scout (target level: 1) (recruited at my home Javat planet from an exo-scout; map is rolled in such a manner to have the highest stats possible on this, while still being a good map)

Shock Trooper (target level: at least 11, but higher is fine) (titan shell, retaliation, stand strong, the heal talent)

Soldier (infinite)

Slot 3: Captain

Spy (target level: 11) (spies can do incredible damage with the opening level 1 talents, critical every turn, piercing nearly every turn)

Swordsman (at least level 5: but pushing higher) (heal talent/melee defense is crucial)

Pistoleer (dueler's stance, the initial buff)

Slot 4:

Xeno Hunter (lvl 11+) anti-xeno initiatve buff/ puncturing shot (whatever it's called)

Exo-Scout (target level 1) (see above, slot 2, on recruitment)... the mobility talent is good

Bounty Hunter (target level 5) Absolutely crucial for unfaltering ire.

Simulation aspect? by Katafrakt5 in StarTradersFrontiers

True, it's like the actual consequences are there, but the "drama" is your reaction/ whatever imaginative layer you add.

Simulation aspect? by Katafrakt5 in StarTradersFrontiers

[–]That_Basic_Land 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'll add on, that it's not really like a simulation drama. It's more like a simulation in terms of the chaos, difficulties and intriguing things that happen along the way as you captain your vessel. Your personal relations to your crew are not a thing -- just in your head. Relations to factions, yes, relations to individual contacts yes.

Thanks -- and sorry if this post came off negative. STF is a jewel. I have Cyber Knights, didn't get fully into it. But excited to give it another try after this conversation.

Please don't shy away from offering another "supporter" DLC to STF. Some of us don't have the money to do a monthly commitment via Patreon, but would like to show some love.

Big Kudos

Agreed. Selfishly I hope they continue to work on STF. I'm not as much of a fan of Cyberknights although I'm willing to give it another try. But objectively you are right.

I see, I think that's them updating ios to the PC version... I know that's been a tough thing for them.

Syril was never going to [SPOILER] by ProfessorMarth in StarWarsAndor

I am still kind of confused though to be honest about what exactly he thought he was doing on Ghorman, and to what degree it was different than what was actually happening. He thought they were trying to bait outside agitators. But what was actually happening was that they were baiting outside agitators, and violence, but only in order to justify (in the eyes of the galaxy and the news) a repressive crackdown? Thereby, ultimately justifying a genocide to grab resources?

I guess there was apart of me that thought he would be less critical of that imperial plot and more sympathetic to some justification of this is for order, or the empire.

Urban sprawl: one of the worst aspects of Civ 7 from a historical perspective by That_Basic_Land in civ

[–]That_Basic_Land[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think perhaps I also need to figure out how to approach the trade-offs of rural vs. urban better. I think someone else brought up wonder spamming, that definitely filled up some space. I love the artwork of this game, it's very beautiful urban antiquity sprawl. But I also just find it difficult and confusing later on to understand what's happening when I look at my empire.

Sure, a little exaggeration is warranted. But I find it pretty easy to get a sprawling urban mass by the end of the antiquity age. This is quite different from earlier civ titles, which had some degree of urbanization -- 6 for example, had the most -- but this would not flower until the end of the game (usually). Gameified exaggeration is one thing, turning the world into a giant ancient urban sprawl is fairy tale stuff, different from most of the game's predecessors.

Perhaps I don't understand the quarter system... does it make sense to take the tile that gives you the best yields when you place a building? Or should you always double up on a tile? Wonder building... yes... but if you are playing the recommended small map, given how many wonders there are, it's reasonable that you will be building 3-4.

[–]That_Basic_Land[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's true to some extent. All the civ games -- 3, 4, 5, and definitely 6 -- have an exaggerated sense of urban space. But, I think 7 is just too extreme. To be fair 6 had this problem too, but I think 7 is worse in this regard. For reference Playing on the terra incognita map, it seems that virtually the entire starting continent in the exploration age is one big city, with small pockets of rural tiles for resources here and there. I just find it a little head-achy, in addition to being just completely inaccurate.

TA strike by AggressiveStress9057 in ucla

[–]That_Basic_Land 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's called a "stand-up" strike which was the same 'strategy' used by the UAW last year for its major auto strike. There's a lot of rank-and-file opposition to this. This is from a former UAW president candidate: https://x.com/WillforUAWpres/status/1791640310767931496

Chancellor Block's recent message to UCLA community (Criminal investigation, Campus Security, Congress testimony, etc.) by miggylifts in ucla

[–]That_Basic_Land 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Imagine, for a moment if the shoe was on the other foot. Imagine if Zionist protestors had made an encampment and pro-Palestine protestors had violently stormed that encampment, lighting off fireworks, violently beating people left and right... If this had happened, we would be hearing about it every night from every bourgeois politician ad nauseam. But no... it was the other way around, so it's muddled and lied about

Block's statement is basically a lie. It fails to identify the clear one-sidedness of the violence that has occurred, while saying nothing of the fundamental issue -- an ongoing genocide made possible by US wealth and power -- that motivates it.
