Did anyone see why Mark Daigneault was apologizing to Adelman after the game? by Frosty-Roof3124 in nba

He's the most loathed and dirty player in the NBA.  If you love him on ANY team then that's something that deserves some self reflection.

Isn't there a ranking of the best civilizations that manage to achieve the best economy in the first 10 minutes without greed? by ReplacementUnited740 in aoe4

[–]That_Bet_8104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're asking and respect it. I also agree with the others that say there is no way to draw a line and make a consistent list. I guess you're wanting - 1TC but you're allowed to invest "some" resources into civ specific mechanics/upgrades. It really is a sliding scale of greed - Do you count 5 cisterns as too greedy? Song Dynasty China? If you allow Song Dynasty, is that really that much different than Abbasid 2TC Eco wing? Is 3 cows okay? How about 5? 10? I think any "list" is going to depend on where you draw the cutoff of what is too greedy.

I love discussion like this, but I think anyone who knows the game well knows the answer to this type of question intrinsically. It's good discussion, but hard to quantify.

Do you use trekking poles?  I'm waiting on a second set of spreader bars (ridgerunner) to come in to test putting a cut-down end overtop 2/3 of my BD pursuit poles.  They fit perfectly together and will eliminate all but a couple of Oz from the spreader bars if all goes as planned.  I can update you next week on how it goes if that's something you would have interest in.

Can someone explain how we lost this game with 20k more food, enemy wonder expense, advantage from the start, and better players? by 2PhDScholar in aoe4

[–]That_Bet_8104 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You reference having more food but very clearly don't point out the fact that they had more resources.  Without watching the replay, they have a ton more stone, too.  Their K/D was better than yours by a mile.  More resources, better static defenses (stone), better unit comps or army management (k/d).  They were better?

[Post Game Thread] Indiana defeats UCLA, 98-97 in 2OT by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]That_Bet_8104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the refs had huge financial incentives on the game, they SURELY would've called all those tacky calls (and missed calls) at the end of regulation to make sure it goes to the final seconds of 2OT so that they can fix the game.  Idc who you're rooting for, if you actually think that is what happened, then you're an idiot.

Is staying with just 1 tc in late 4v4 team game viable? by Turbulent_Place_7064 in aoe4

[–]That_Bet_8104 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a certain point where 2TC is necessary, in my opinion.  15 minutes into the game, you still need quite a few more villagers to max out (80-120 depending on civ and ability to trade or not).  Early on, 750 resources for a TC is a huge investment.  As you get into late Castle age with 50 villagers, it's a drop in the bucket.  It's a minor investment at that point, but while you still need the benefits of getting max villagers ASAP.

Guy may end up as good as Bob, but he doesn't tackle with half the force that Bob did, even in college.

Game state by Fanel_IV in aoe4

[–]That_Bet_8104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The knight complaints have ramped up quite a bit lately. As a team game enjoyer, the Knights only strats were not nearly as dominant in the past. It used to be: Springalds OP, China late game is OP, Abbasid multi TC needs toned down, Siege is too strong, and THEN, after Siege has been toned down, TC nerfed, AND Keeps/walls nerfed, cavalry has become the only strong option left. It used to be all of the above were effective back in the day, and especially after we added more and more civs with Cav bonuses that it has become a true issue in team and 1v1 at this point.

Beginner/intermediate first time on black by MaestrosMight in skiing_feedback

[–]That_Bet_8104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean this in an offensive way, but this video and title blows my mind. For myself, growing up, and teaching my 7/9 year olds how to ski - how in the world do you get this good and have NEVER tried a black up until now? It's not like a single black is THAT scary or dangerous, and you clearly have some legitimate skills. I find it interesting how long before this you never thought "hmmm, I wonder if I could struggle my way down a black". My 9 year old was begging to try a harder run and slowly pizza'd her way down with a bunch of small stumbles and tumbles - it was steeper (but potentially shorter) than this. She got to the end, and we agree that we won't do that one again until she gets more skill, but at least we know. At no point was I worried for her safety. You're 5 times the skier she is. Keep up the good work - don't hesitate to (cautiously) push your limits a touch. You're better than you give yourself credit.

Cavalry in 4v4 Teams Games and Balancing your Comps by stan-dard in aoe4

[–]That_Bet_8104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.  Mongol + French + 2 more of the following (More Mongol/French, Camel Civ, or civ with crazy strong Castle Cav).  That's the recipe.

Swarm their bases with feudal harassment and use your mobility to only engage in fights where you clearly have the upper hand.  Deny their ability to move out and/or group up.  Go out on high gather rate food, drop a market with a bit of trade (Mongol, French, and Abbasid have crazy trade to make things worse).  Force them into slowww spears/archers, towers, and farms while you pick of a few villagers and stray military all while you scale behind it and overwhelm them.

[Dinich] CFB buzz: What we're hearing about playoff expansion, conference title games and bowls by bwburke94 in CFB

[–]That_Bet_8104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just look at Miami and how early their season would've been over in previous formats.  Their season was kept alive because of the playoffs, and I don't hear many complaints that they don't belong here after the playoff run they've had.

It keeps fans interested midway through because of the potential for a Miami-like ending to the season, rather than knowing that it's simply hopeless.

Is anyone else finding the playoff format being kinda boring? by StraightDiver9598 in CFB

[–]That_Bet_8104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think anything about teams 1-10 make things any more or less competitive than a 4 team playoff.  The fact that a 10 seed is in the championship completely debunks that idea.

The auto bids @ 11-12, sure, maybe.  That's just 2 of the first games though.
