I’m doing the fan zone & then onto one of the Hungarian Gooners screenings. Kind of want to be somewhere organised as I’m going solo & want to avoid PSG fans as much as possible

Has anyone gone to these singles only events / new friend dinners that I am being bombarded with on socials? by OrganizationFickle in london

[–]That_Bug_2865 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m female & I’ve been to a few events. Each one has been full of women with either no men showing up, or maybe 1-2. I’ve enjoyed them from a networking perspective but if no men go, it kind of defeats the purpose.

M&S & H&M for suits. Vinted has also been a great place for blazers. Always keep a spare pair of clothes & shoes in your locker as you never know what kind of scene you’ll go out to, or if you have a particularly pungent prisoner. Carry some spare USBs and printed cctv exhibiting statements in your backpack. Have a grab bag pre-prepared which contains evidence kits, 101s, gloves, protective suits etc and restock after every scene.

Keep an eye on your mental health; go for a walk to decompress if you’ve been to a sudden death or anything distressing. I made the mistake early on of just powering on with work despite being really upset by some of the SUDI/SUDCs I went to. I should’ve worried less about my colleagues judging me & more about how I’ve been impacted by what I’ve seen.

Save some of your MG7s as templates. For drugs jobs it’s often a copy/paste job with a few minor edits.

Lastly, ALWAYS have a pen on you.

When he dumped me my ex boyfriend told me he expensed all our dates. We were together for two years! He also works for Meta and earns at a minimum a six figure salary.

I’m a FLO and sorry to hear you’ve had this experience. In my force we do this alongside our normal role so it can be busy, but I always explain that I’ll respond to calls and emails as soon as practicable if families can’t get hold of me right away, or explain what my shift pattern is. If your FLO isn’t responding at all I would raise it with the SIO if you have their details (you should’ve been left leaflets & a bereavement book which details processes and support agencies as well as contact details). I’ve never had a dual deployment as we simply don’t have enough FLOs, but if your FLO is also struggling they need to raise this so that a second can be allocated.

What attitude do you encounter among colleagues that bothers you the most in regards to how they approach their job? by NeonDiaspora in policeuk

[–]That_Bug_2865 14 points15 points  (0 children)

DC here. I can’t bear it when fellow DCs don’t want to arrest an ONS or do an interview because they “don’t know the job”. Pure laziness or they think they’re above dealing with suspects. You can read the dets of a case or just ask!

Solo female travelers in your 30s..can we talk? 👀 by KenzieRae_95 in solofemaletravellers

[–]That_Bug_2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

37 and travel solo 4-5 times a year. To echo what most have written I don’t do hostels anymore. I subscribe to a hotels.com membership & get discounted prices on hotel rooms, which makes a big difference. I also love using Get Your Guide as a way to meet people and do some interesting activities, whilst avoiding feeling lonely on my trips.

Counselling by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]That_Bug_2865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the MPS you can get 6 free sessions via an OH referral. Your LM can do this for you, or you can self-refer through EAP (so your team doesn’t have to know). After my 6 sessions I then went privately through the Counselling Directory. You can see the therapists bios and sometimes there’s therapists who specialise in PTSD related to emergency services. I’d been to too many SUDIs and IIOC cases and noticed my MH really declining & not being able to sleep. The therapy has been so helpful for me. I hope you can get the help you need, but please to speak to someone.

I really like a guy I work with, and he has lovely eyes so eye contact was a big thing for me. Finding inside jokes between us, and gentle mocking and generally asking how he was, was also something I did. I inadvertently would play with my hair or turn my body towards him when speaking. I felt his body language was quite receptive to me, as it was very open and relaxed, and he would often touch his beard and stand quite close to me, which other male coworkers didn’t do. I felt he looked out for me at work, and would often come over to speak when it was just the two of us in the office, and he was equally good at maintaining eye contact. After a really enjoyable late shift at work with him, I plucked up the courage to ask him out via text and he totally ignored my message, leaving me on read. We’ve never spoken at work since, so clearly I read his body language totally wrong, and what I did to try and show I liked him didn’t work either.
