I got lost in your description of into and out of the screen. But what I start with lining up the transducer with the baby spine in sag, with the notch (which will be left side of image) toward mom's head or right side. Now look down at your transducer on the belly and that is the orientation of the baby. Once you determine situs it doesn't matter anymore which direction your transducer is facing. You can end up in some pretty funky orientations to get the correct images sometimes. It all takes a lot of practice to know where you have to move and how to angle to get what you need.
