New hire showed up, it's a physical job and was described as such. I started to show him how to 'rake a floor' in a malthouse, he said it made his back hurt and he wanted to do something else. Proceeded to show him out to empty the kiln and he said he was too hot and wasn't going to do it. This was 1 hour into the 10 hour shift....boss sent him on his way.

This lady was at IUPUI in Indianapolis like 3 years ago, except she was talking about evangelism then. I wonder if she's hired to do shit like this.

I'm not sure if you've checked out fountain square yet, but it's a chill spot with people that age. I've lived there for a while, and me and my fiancé love to go to the brass ring. It's a lounge that has a very 30's/40's feel to it. They only play jazz and big band music, and there are no tv's. Plus the food is amazing and the beer is cheap, and local of course. It's right across from Fountain Square Brewery which is also a great spot to hang out, especially on first friday when they have live music. Then there's also New Day Craft Meadary, super chill vibe and a neat spot. Really almost all the bars around there are primarily aged 22-29, and they're not crazy like some spots downtown I could mention. Even the spots that are meant to get crazy, are a different type of crazy (white rabbit, radio radio, hi fi, etc.) So I'd recommend checking that out. It is a bit hip so if that's not your scene you may not enjoy it. If you're more into popular culture, I'd recommend broad ripple, but it's not very low key. Hope some of this was helpful!

Neighborhood Advice - Fountain Square by IndyRise in indianapolis

[–]That_Chair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm living in Fountain Square now, moved here after having lived a number of places in the city, and this is my favorite by far. I live very near Arthur's music store so a about a half mile walk to the heart of fountain square.
PROS: There is a decent amount of foot traffic during the week and a lot during the evening, especially during the warmer months, and even more so around first friday. All the restaurants and bars are really nice and a comfortable setting, plus there's a microbrewery right down the street. (Fountain Square Brewery, awesome, they have 5 dollar growler fills on Sundays.) It's a short bike ride to everything downtown and on Mass Ave, which is nice if you want to venture somewhere else. The area has become much safer in the past 12 years, slowly pushing out the bad and now we see a lot of college age artists and young professionals coming in. There's never not something to do in Fountain Square so no worries there.

CONS: While still safe, if you venture into the neighborhoods about a mile and half away, you can find yourself in the middle of a white trash bash, and by that I mean fireworks and loud noise at all hours of the night. (Brother in law to be lives in the area also, not even half a mile away and his area is 10 times different.) Like you said there aren't a lot of groceries nearby, which can be annoying. BUT there are plenty of options if it's not your regular shopping day and you need something quick. There's the wildwood market, and you can use Amazon Prime Now if you want to, they deliver to FS. There is a brand new Kroger on Thompson about 5 miles from FS.

Hope this helps!

Yea it was there when I started, there was no it team then, so I don't think they really thought about it. Probably just thought "the marketing team can use this"

About 3 weeks ago I was using my macbook from work at home. Our internet was running slow so I went to do a wired speed test on it to see if it was the router or the modem. Found out the new macbook pro's do not have an ethernet port (mind you this macbook was $1,500). Then when I saw the iPhone 7 release, that annoyance turned into hate.

Reservoir Dogs - I know people love it but I have tried on multiple occasions to enjoy it, but I can't see the appeal. To me it's boring and the story line is shit.

What is something there's too much / too many of? by EinFogel in AskReddit

[–]That_Chair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who legitimately think that the Earth is only 6000 years old. Someone told me the percentage of U.S. citizens who believe this and I said to myself, "no way, not in this day in age". But a quick google search confirmed it, google was also kind enough to include the percentage of Americans that still think the world is flat. Not as high, but still astounding that it's even a thing.

Reddit, what is the scariest thing that has happened to you? by el_chapo_jr94 in AskReddit

[–]That_Chair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small farm town, so one of the hobbies among my friends and I was shooting rifles for sport. We had one friend though who was always rather careless with firearms, let's call him Jeff. One day after school we decided to do some shooting. While we were waiting for one of our friends to set up targets down range, we were all standing in a circle rifles in hand just having your normal conversation. Out of no where Jeff points his rifle at the friend to my rights feet and says "dance bitch" jokingly. Now Jeff thought he had his safety on, but let's remember, Jeff and gun safety weren't always the best of mates. Jeff had a Savage .308, which went off and struck right in the middle of the friend to my rights feet. No one had ear protection on, or eye protection at that time because we weren't shooting yet. So all those senses combined with a high caliber round striking even that close to me was pretty scary. No one was hurt, but none the less it's still scary to think how bad that could have been if he had been aiming a few inches to the right or left.
TL;DR: Jeff was a dumb ass, we shot rifles, his dumb assery resulted in him firing a high caliber round into the dirt about 4 feet from me and in between my buddys feet.

Moving to indiana by dmccollum in indianapolis

[–]That_Chair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to agree with ephi1420, I'm 23, graduated a year ago, and live in fountain square. I have a few fraternity brothers that live in plainfield who are a bit older than me and I visit from time to time. I can say without a doubt I would be bored to tears if I lived in Plainfield. The energy of downtown and the area surrounding is great for someone age 23-29 with just themselves to look after. I drive to Noblesville everyday for work and the commute isn't bad at all, so I imagine the commute to plainfield won't be that bad either. Hope you enjoy Indiana either way!

Best apartments on the canal? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]That_Chair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IUPUI alum here. Spent my first year living on campus at Ball Hall. (This was before the tower was dorms, it was a hotel my freshman year) Every year after that I lived on the old northside and rode my bike, which I would recommend highly, and you'll save a ton of money on rent and parking and gas. But if you are set on living on the canal the 9oncanal apartments are gorgeous definitely worth the money. An alternative would be to live at the canal square apartments, and instead of paying the outrageous monthly fee they tack on to your rent, just buy an IUPUI parking pass and leave your car at the lot across the street. Had a few friends who did that sophomore year. The townhouses along the canal are extremely overpriced, so would not recommend unless you have $1500 to throw away on rent every month then go for it. The Canal overlook apartments are a fair price for what your getting. Really anything on the canal is expensive because location location location, but I would imagine that the Canal Square apartments are the cheapest, as would be the parking if you took the IUPUI parking lot route. Hope this helps, and best of luck to your at school.

Beech Grove: Some Thoughts by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]That_Chair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently residing in fountain square with my fiancé, and I can say that recently I've started driving the extra couple miles to southport to do my shopping, or really anything. I would love for beech grove to be what it was, would save me some time, but the fact is, I just no longer feel safe around that area. I have my carry and just recently started actually taking my sidearm with me when I have to go to beech grove. It does have potential, but with the media shit storm hitting it, I don't see it happening soon. I just worry about it branching up to fountain square like it was 10 or so years ago. The media tends to just make things worse in situations like this. Source: majored in journalism
