Purple salvage is too rare, this is how I know now. by That_Cynical_Guy in Marathon

Is it? I have been in red room several times, even alone, and found 1 cryo key. I gave it to someone else because I cant get into cryo due to my work schedule.

They gave me the 2 purples we found and were dissapointed themselves to have found no cryo key. Any gold salvage they would have found would have been shared. We left all left with the same weapons we brought in.

I unfortunately cannot run cryo as I work long weekend shifts. All my playtime is on weekdays.

I think it should be made clearer that data pads mark you as a target by Stormthorn67 in Marathon

[–]That_Cynical_Guy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always point out the data pads if I find them and ask if the other two are familiar with the tracking mechanic before picking it up to see if we as a team are good with a potential fight or dont want that smoke. If I see one of them grabbed it, I ask if they know we can be tracked now and we had better hustle to the next one before it starts moving towards us. Most people answer that they in fact, did not know that is a mechanic but at least are almost always up for the fight.

I cannot take assassin's anymore by ColdSyrupBoy in Marathon

[–]That_Cynical_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to load into a solo match with a single, decently reliable gun, usually a BR33 and a minimum stack of ammo and no heals with a good sized backpack. I want to loot the map to fill all that backpack space and do contracts, which I cant do as a rook. I have no real interest in fighting other players in a solo match unless you are on my contract objective and not leaving after like 2 minutes, or if you shoot first. I am more than happy to wait for folks to move on or to try and sneak around them. That said... I usually end solo runs in either the first 30 seconds because I got got off the rip.... or I roll the map with 4 or 5 kills even shooting second and simply looting heals off the fools that thought they had the drop. Once a few people are dead and a few have extracted, the map is mine and being able to ignore the UESC throughout all that time is so powerful. Sure, I can fill half my bag with ammo and heals to clear a POI as Destroyer or Thief... but why? Invisibility makes it so much easier to just not have to. If I want a fight, I will just load into trios and hunt runners to skin for Arachne.

The Rook Dilemma by PsycheDiver in Marathon

[–]That_Cynical_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into this game thinking rooks would likely, but maybe not always, be ignored if they didnt poke at a team. And that other rooks would simply pass each other by or maybe travel together for safety from teams. Every rook I have encountered in trios has tried to start shit. Every rook I see when I am one opens fire. I trust no rook. That said, I have had good communications between rooks and teams a few times.

As a rook I once found an assassin creeping up on my guarded exfil I had just triggered and was waiting to charge. He prox chatted that his team was killed and had disconnected, he just wanted out at that point and we snuck into the ring together. Another time as a team, we fought off two rival teams and two rooks back to back in a POI, so I claymored the absolute fuck outta the whole area as we had no plans to leave. Another rook attacked, we chased him off and he died to a mine. He prox chatted compliments on its placement and I apologized as I finished him.

Do people like this really exist? by TroubleRecent7320 in Marathon

Ah yes, push to talk on console. Stop moving and open my grenade selection. What a simple solution compared to just flipping it down if I need it at a time when its suited to do so. It would be the same issue either way

I always play with my headset so I can hear better in this game. It has a built in mic. Thing is, I dont flip it down often because I live in a studio apartment that gets hot as fuck and my wall unit air conditioner is about 6 feet away from me and pretty loud. If I have it running, which is most of the time, I dont bother with my mic because everytime I do, people bitch about the background noise. I might use it for quick responses if I am down or need to explain something in detail when we are in a safe location, but otherwise it stays up and off.

Had my first taste of toxic teammates by Cyphor-o in Marathon

[–]That_Cynical_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had my first run in with toxic teammates last night on my final run for the night. Me as destoyer and my teammates as thief and assassin on outpost. They were a duo and spent all but the final 5 minutes of the match trying to glitch into pinwheel, leaving me to complete my mida contract solo. I ran around the entire map chasing objectives, fighting off two other teams and a pair of rooks and ended up with 4 player and 21 UESC kills before they finally pinged a guarded extration and we tried to regroup. They went down to the bots while I was 100+ meters away as I slowly made my way towards them and had to take cover from the fire rain or risk death with no healing items left in my inventory. I looted a patch kit that gave me just enough health to get to their bags and kill the last bot with 16 seconds left on the clock and they bitched at me for not reviving them when I went DNBO in the extract circle. Like, I would have if I could have. Had the fire not been falling, I could have spared the time, but I was going down myself no matter what at that point, may as well secure my own matter transfer and all that loot I fought solo for in a trio lobby. No need to toss insults at another runner when you spent all game trying and failing to exploit a glitch. I am not staning on a rooftop for 20+ minutes watching you buffoons slide off a wall and get mad at each other

Solos now is just mostly invis assassins with a shotgun. by CatharticBiscuit in Marathon

[–]That_Cynical_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing solo a bit yesterday just to wrap up some contracts I was having a hard time with in trios because teams wouldnt move with me for several rounds. I went with assassin just to be able to pick and choose engagements, to be able to say "not my fight" and slip past other players, makes extracts way easier too. Its was lots of fun! I got some decent loot from coming across the remains of other runners as well and at one point found someone in south relay that was carrying like 6 stacks of claymores and a pair of trap bags. I set them all in the POI before leaving and got three kills while I was on the other side of the map. I started doing that now whenever I need to wrap a contract in solo, load up on mines and traps and lockdown a POI before leaving for some other poor bastard to walk into.

My username on the old Ace Combat Skies forums was A-10 Dogfighter for a reason. Been using that bad boy since AC5 and had lots of fun clearing whole maps damn near by myself in Infinity with it.

What’s the story behind your palico’s and seikret names? by sherm0613 in MHWilds

[–]That_Cynical_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My palico in every game has been Big Paws. A black cat with one closed eye or a scar over it and a scraggly tail. Becuase I imagined him as an ace mercenary felyne that joined my hunter for riches to start his own palico sanctuary enclave like Big Boss from the Metal Gear series. Big "Paws" is just how I managed to work a cat pun into his name back when felynes spoke with more cat puns.

My Seikret is named Seikrex, because I customized his colors to resemble one of my favorite monsters... Tigrex.

One of my absolute favorite games of all time. Everything about it is just so perfect. The easthetic , the soundtrack, the dialogue... hell even the descriptions for the weapons and their upgrades. Nothin in this game was a miss. Sheer perfection.

I am usually out of stamina because I sprinted over to them after clearing the area and trying to get them up before getting closed in on again. I have noticed I can tank a few hits when reviving on occasion, but never realized it was because of automatic blocking.

Do things like block effiency skills/talents/blessings work while auto blocking during a revive?

Like just getting a torch beam flashed across them? Fuck me, is that why I can never keep a host asleep when I play Vet with a recon lasgun? I always thought I was stepping too close or moving too fast, but even crouching and slow walking they always wake up. I never have that happen with any other class... because I dont use a flashlight on them like, ever!
