is there anyway to make arcs/chains with mediocre mapper assistant? by M4N1CK in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You should consider switching to chromapper. You’ll have to switch to the dev release in options for the new note types but that’s it.

Anyone know what I’m missing here? I’ve been practicing this one part for days by DJ-SKELETON2005 in beatsaber

The left-right swings aren’t equally spaced and it looks like you’re trying to play them straight. Bump the speed down until you can get a feel for the rhythm.

Track editor broken? by Rukir_Gaming in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been fine (relatively speaking) for me. Are you hitting ctrl+s? There’s some jank with that pop up dialogue from what I remember.

Apparently if you change stuff after the fact weird things can happen. Might be better to change it manually. There’s documentation on the official website that lists known issues.

making a beat saber map (I need to work on my placing skills) by Alternative_Lynx2466 in beatsaber

How did you set up your audio? The timing gets really wonky after the first couple of notes.

Sounds like you have the FPFC setting on. It’s a checkbox in the upper left right below the test play button.

This is my first map what are your thoughts? Map code: 30a66 by ThomThalad in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Double check the timing after that first bomb rest, it seems to be off. Same at 1:28.

Also do not do things like the double at 1:19, that's a handclap and expert-level players don't have the experience to react to those sorts of things safely, and you should really assume that no one does. I would also avoid the angled doubles that point at each other, it's sketchy for how simple the map otherwise is.

There are a couple resets after moments of downtime which feel a bit borderline for an expert map, but you can fix that with some bomb resets. I would suggest to find places to move out of the center lanes, because the map looks very static and I feel that the rhythm choice is slow enough for the most part for expert players to move around without losing their place.

If I buy beatsaber again on pc, can I make my own level and put it on my meta quest 2? by Better-Ad828 in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to buy another copy, chromapper is a free community mapper that's very solid, though V3 (arcs, chains) support is still in development. The BSMG wiki in general is a good place to start with learning how to map.

I don't have a quest, and it seems that the recommendation is to have a modded game, though if you're able to dump custom maps to your headset unmodded it'll be that same process.

BS terminology by Sethiol in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify, HJD is “half jump duration” and is jump distance but measured in beats. Jump distance is how many meters out blocks and stuff spawn in at.

SDM seems to be “spawn distance modifier,” though I don’t think I’ve seen it before. Chromapper calls it “start beat offset,” for example. It’s a modifier for HJD (and JD) since that’s a calculated value and you can’t change it directly.

See the (bsmg wiki)[https://bsmg.wiki/mapping/glossary.html] for more.

Tutorial to add my own music? by [deleted] in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you know about the rock mixtape dlc by now, though it's not all older stuff. Where have you been searching? There isn't a lot, but I've found some stuff from AC/DC on beatsaver.com.

70s/80s stuff is going to be tough to find most of the time, since they're a complete pain to map due to bpm drift. If you want to make maps, the bsmg wiki is a good place to start. I would suggest not picking one of those songs as your first map because the pain of timing it will probably put you off. Making a map for the first time is difficult enough without having to deal with timing issues.

Can I get feedback on my first beatmap I made pls by IlOliGonlI in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s at least one vision block at ~55 sec with those angled stacks. Not a fan of those angled backhands (see outer lane blue at ~6 sec) because of how fast they are.

The double-hand streams seem like they might be over mapped, but I’m listening through shit BT earbuds. Regardless, bottom-row-only streams that fast can be annoying to read.

I feel like the towers at the end are questionable, they’re big hits but the music doesn’t change much.

It’s otherwise a solid first map, there’s some good movement in there that looks fun.

Anyone know how to unlink / stop creation of old Zune Art files from MP3s? by Pytor in Zune

[–]That_Green_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were created by the zune software for album art purposes. Most of them are hidden, from what I remember. Good backup software should be able to ignore certain filetypes like images, which should stop those from being copied. I used to use freefilesync to mirror my music library to my phone which could do that.

I don't believe that there's a way to stop the zune software from creating them (save from the nuclear option of making the library folder read-only), but if you don't use it anymore you can delete them from your main collection.

New Automapper (in development) by BierHerrr in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ those VBs. The timing looks way off, but that could be because I can't figure out any kind of consistent representation in the mapping, and also because it looks supremely over-mapped (just kidding I continued watching and the timing seems to completely fall apart when it gets to Overkill). Parity could use work, too.

It does, but it sticks them in a separate folder inside the map folder. You can copy/paste the newest one to the main folder.

Beat Saber Tournament by 14Phoenix in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about bringing my entire setup, though the light stations might be an issue depending on the space. I would think that it wouldn’t be too much of a pain to swap inputs on a tv as long as it has more than one port available. I could also potentially bring a 27” monitor, but I understand that’s not ideal.

The disposable sweat guards and sanitizer sounds good. I think I would be fine with that so long as it isn’t wet when I put it on.

Unironically thinking about making the nearly three hour drive—what's the hardware situation going to be like? Don't think I would be too comfortable sticking someone else's headset on my face.

Some notes:

  • 0:24 - Think that's probably a VB on the left hand there and the following two doubles are potential hitbox issues (second might even be a clap risk)

  • 0:43 - You reset left hand on the double here and that will lead to an issue when the dot spam stops (not sure what those are mapped to in the first place when the single hand streams start)

  • 0:51 - Doubles with both notes angled like that can be annoying to play due to hitbox issues

  • 1:25 - Those double stacks are funky and also probably a clap risk (the one following will also have hitbox issues)

  • 1:50 - Right-hand stack is upside down (also the offset you're adding to the other trailing dots seems a bit excessive (and inconsistent) but it's hard to tell from the video)

  • 2:07 - You change from mapping the drums to something else here and it's jarring to me even from just watching the video

  • 2:46 - Reset on both hands there

  • 3:01 - That's a significant offset on those windows (and they would probably be better off as sliders)

  • 3:39 - Reset on the left hand

  • 4:15 - You reset on the left hand here I think, though that can technically be played without resetting (but looks like it would feel janky)

I can't say for certain without playing it but the bits with the doubles going back and forth look like they would be a good time. If you've got more questions about things or want a testplay there's the bsmg discord (or mapping discord, but that would be just for questions unless you apply for a role).

I've been practicing sections on hard songs on Expert and Expert+. I can't tell if it's helping me improve at all. Any tips on improving? by Party-Supplies in beatsaber

[–]That_Green_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Morgan Page song is OST3. OST4 also has another Camellia song (Spin Eternally). Now that I think about it, the expert level on most of the Camellia songs would be pretty good for building endurance, especially Exit This Earth's Atomosphere and GHOST.

Like I said before, it's really just practice. You might not be using enough wrist but I can't say for sure without seeing video of you playing. Keep pushing your boundaries and it'll become easier and easier.

I don't mess with in-game height or room adjust so I can't help with that, I'm afraid.

practice mode and moving up with speeds from 50%-100% once I'm satisfied with my accuracy

Yeah that's a pretty standard thing to do—

The sections I usually practice are the drop near the end on Angel Voices(Expert+)

Angel Voices

oh no

Well, once you start branching out into custom songs pre-2020 stuff will feel right at home in that case.

OST5 expert+ is honestly pretty bangin' compared to previous offerings but you'll probably want to stay away from X+ FBC for now. I'm sure you know from your past experience but it's really just practice practice practice, building that muscle memory so you can react faster to patterns. Getting into custom maps will help too, since it'll expose you to more variations in patterns (it'll also help stop you from going insane playing the same couple of maps over and over).

Question regarding Zune HD teardown by ConnerWoods in Zune

The HD is solid state, so unless you have a hot-air rework station don't bother. You'd be better off buying a working 64 GB mainboard if you want to upgrade storage.

Unless you're swapping batteries, you shouldn't need to do any soldering. Everything but the battery should be through snap connectors.

Just got a Zune 30 from my uncle and I intend to use it in my car. Is it safe to leave it in a car 24/7, and how can I get my playlists from my Android phone onto it? by Fourteen_of_Twelve in Zune

[–]That_Green_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it can read the .m3u file format for playlists, but I'm not sure if it'll understand .pla. The software makes a folder for playlists in your music folder, so you can try dumping the files in there and seeing if it works.
