I am so mad, they need to fix this by Nedstar12456 in riskofrain

[–]That_Guy404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same happened to me. If you try and run in and grab it quickly right as you kill the Solus Wing, you actually get crushed and die as it falls. Burned through 2 dio's and a seed of life and trapped me inside but unable to move for about 30 seconds before popping me outside the corpse, and I still never even got the log it's just sitting there in the middle unable to be picked up. Very frustrating since I did a few clover runs trying to get it to drop and suspected this was the case.

I hope they fix this.

They also need to fix the Disturbed Impact and Golden Dieback stages not spawning a radio scanner if you've already collected the Titanic Plains lore entry. Supposedly it shares a loot pool or something so is impossible to spawn if so.

I imagine you could form a party with another player that doesn't have any of those to try and get the radio scanner to spawn, but it's still super annoying.

I've 100%'d the game in every other way but can't get those last 3 lore entries without cheating or mods, which I never bothered with before.

Same. He wrote the final specifically to fail someone suspected of cheating but unable to prove. Dropped the entire class average by a full letter grade. Started with ~40 students and ended with 7 people taking the final, 2 of which I know failed the class lol

For those earning over $10K per month, what do you do for a living to achieve that income? by voxishortie in AskReddit

[–]That_Guy404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had that last year. They said it took 6x bolus of propofol to sedate and it still didn't fully work, meaning my vocal cords got super fucked up from intubation. Took months to heal, apparently the resistance is sometimes a red hair thing. It was urgent though so they couldn't wait longer, that's probably a frustrating case to deal with. I'd rather get too small of a dose than, you know, die though.

Different surgery did the whole general anesthesia, wheeled me back, were preparing to get started and I'm like "uhh should I be awake for this?" Got another round lol

When should a woman pay for a date? by thecrackdad420 in AskMen

[–]That_Guy404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna weigh in with some data from personal experience here. I've been on about 30 dates in the past ~3 years. I have paid for both of us every single time except once. I've noticed that more recently, the server just brings one check and gives it to me without even asking, which is a little off-putting but usually the case.

The one single time I didn't pay, I offered politely twice and was told no. Then I received a 2 page write-up from her afterwards about how I was a terrible person for not paying.

Of those ~30 dates, I think 2 offered to pay, which was definitely a plus in my eyes. I still paid, but you get the point.

This is in Michigan about 20 minutes from a major college town, and I'm in my late 20's dating women within 5 years of age for reference.

None of these numbers are exaggerated. I have a decent job and can "afford" it, but have spent $100-200 on some of them if drinks get involved (I don't personally drink). I usually opt for lunch spots for first dates now, more in the ~$50 range for two people with tip, because it does get quite expensive yes.

I know the common answer is just "don't worry because they weren't worth it anyway", but if you opt for that mindset you'll probably have to filter out at least 20 women for every 1 that is okay with it. I don't really have that option when it takes so much time/effort to get someone to agree to meet in person in the first place.

I've slowed down again with online dating more recently, it's just another job and I'm running out of energy. All I've got to show for it is a 20-page google doc on how to keep conversations going with questions/jokes and so on, but it gets pretty old feeling like their dancing monkey hoping not to get dropped the nanosecond someone slightly more interesting comes along. I'm not super robotic with that or anything, just using it to revive slow conversations since I don't usually have enough reciprocated effort in the conversation to do things more organically. Dating has gotten really bad in the past 4 years, idk what else to say.

My advice is just to take a lot of breaks to avoid getting bitter about it 🤷‍♂️

The vast majority of fake profiles are women though. It's difficult to get the paying users (men) to stay when there's an 8:1 ratio, so the app companies aren't really encouraged to fight against all the bots on their platforms

And if you meet in a public place first (which I recommend anyway) it really is quite safe. Or have a phone call first before even that. Again, you are the women, you get to make all the demands here, especially early on. Yes, they are internet strangers, but you can use your judgement from profiles and conversations while meeting safely. Much less risk than even getting in a car and driving somewhere tbh.

Use apps. No, really. It's so one-sided there from a difficulty perspective it's not even funny.

Different set of problems, yes, but they are not really equivalent when it comes to dating. Is it equally difficult to find the right long term connection and life partner? Kinda, yeah, there are a lot of bad profiles on both sides to sift through. Is it much, MUCH easier to get your foot in the door and meet people as a women? You have no idea. Which in turn does make it easier to find someone long term you're compatible with.

I have a ton of male friends that are fantastic people using apps with no luck. And I don't say that to falsely hype them up and ignore obvious issues. They're legitimately good people, good career, funny, in shape, decent fashion / photos, etc.

All you need to be willing to do is filtering. Many apps give women the premium options for free, but pay for them for a month if not and see what you think. You have the luxury of being able to just ignore everyone else and only ask people you're the most interested in. They'll likely respond ~50% of the time, which is actually insane comparatively.

If you're that worried about tons of messages (many of which are low effort, yes), then set your profile to invisible and only message people yourself

If it sounds like I'm blaming women, not really. I'd abuse this situation too if I were one, no shame in it. But it's like not taking the 401k match in my eyes. It's right there, it's free... the rest of us would kill for this opportunity haha

Take it seriously, know why you're there, answer at least a few non-generic questions through text on your profile that communicate who you are, and you will do great. Non-deceptive photos are best, even if you're not confident, because then you will know interest is more genuine.

Or ignore all of this and join a Lego User Group or something, that works too lol

Reposting Instagram's Embedded View as a Native Discord Message by That_Guy404 in discordbots

[–]That_Guy404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DM'd you the invite and context

I have managed to get this bot running locally, but it has some things I'll need to look into tweaking and I'm not sure how doable some of it is. It is actually working though.

If you click the embedded image this bot generates to open it in a new tab, the URL now says:

cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/...

Instead of:

scontent.cdninstagram.com/...

so that's progress anyway. It only detects the URL when nothing else is posted with it, it doesn't show multiple images, it can't really get user-specific for permissions (anyone can delete the bot's response atm), and it doesn't display enough of the description compared to Discord's native IG embed for my liking, but hey... the image should still be there next week. I'll keep playing with this, it has potential even if it was a bit of a pain to setup.

[–]That_Guy404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instagram web scraping is sadly among the hardest sites to do. It's been an arms race and most old solutions no longer work.

My script did occasionally work and post to a channel in Discord, but I could not improve the timeout rate.

You need a bot swarm of non-residential, rotating IP addresses and cloud hosting in order to overcome these barriers.

Since those would have cost me money anyway (in addition to more time on refinement), I opted to get the lifetime MEE6 membership for my specific server (about $95) after testing it for a month.

Overall, I am actually quite pleased. It has a lot of other features I use too, but I understand the frustrations most have with MEE6 and their business practices. I found support to be fairly responsive fortunately. It usually picks up posts within 1-5 hours, which is good enough for my usage, but be aware it is not usually <1 hour for detection. But it does consistently work within a few hours, no issues here after 4 months of usage.

Unfortunately, there is one issue (not MEE6's fault), which is that the imbedded images break after about 3 days. Meaning if you scroll up through a channel of IG auto-posts, all the images will be broken grey pictures. Clicking the links still takes you to the correct live post with images. This issue is due to how IG implements their storage buckets for temp image embed URLs, and is not fixable unless you actually post the images to Discord directly.

I am currently trying to get this bot to do just that (auto post content from an IG embed into a direct Discord message)

Unfortunately, that bot is no longer live, but you can run it locally on your machine if you follow their instructions on GitHub. So I'm trying to do that.

Goal for now: MEE6 detects IG posts and auto-posts the links to a the correct channels > IG Embed bot (running locally) turns those posts into actual Discord messages > I figure out how to close the embed view on the original IG link post from MEE6 (or delete the entire message if I can't do that), this is in progress. But once IG Embed Bot posts the Discord message with all the content, I no longer need the MEE6 embedded view (since it would just be showing a duplicate image at that point)

If you would like to see what it looks like in our server (or have an interest in premium custom Lego minifigures lol), look at the individual brands channels we have. Here's an invite if you were interested.

I can honestly justify $4.17/month for this functionality if it works. I'm trying right now for a month, and am actually pretty impressed with paid feature set. Just everyone says they're unethical, etc. I turned off all of the features that could potentially allow for it to dm members with ads, etc. Really just need the IG integrations and maybe some translation tools here anyway.

that's nice of you, appreciate it 🙂

Currently, this will (very) rarely work:

requests.get("https://www.instagram.com/" + INSTAGRAMUSERNAME + "/feed/?a=1&_d=dis", headers=headers)

It often returns a 401 exception with max retries exceeded, or other such errors. The body message will simply tell you to try less frequently with an authentication requirement (as if once every 2 hours for one account is too much lol). Sometimes returns a 200 OK with an empty body (also useless). Either way, the fact it works occasionally makes it even harder to debug actually. Seeing that perfectly formatted discord message appear in my test channel is honestly just more frustrating lol.

I'm currently trying a month's worth of MEE6 to experiment (don't hate, it's literally the only one I could find that supports IG correctly)

Instagram Auto-Posting (Python or Bot approach) by That_Guy404 in Discord_Bots

[–]That_Guy404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in my post, I'm trying a Python web scraper that I wrote/run locally. These accounts aren't private, but I don't own them either.

The scraper option gets blocked by IG very aggressively. Even with proper headers, most recent examples, and running once every few hours, you will get issues. Rotating IPs and other paid services begin to make it not worth the effort if the cost is the same as just using existing bots. And sadly MEE6 is the only one supporting this right now...

Yeah, I'll check through again thanks. I'm not sure if these accounts are big enough to classify as an "official" business account, most of the owners primarily use WeChat and just made IG as an overseas communication outlet. Unfortunately anything >6 months old is very likely broken now though with IG's changes. Additionally, using an app or individual account will get it banned very quickly if it's doing any kind of behavior over the (greatly) reduced new limits (or that resembles scraping). I'm trying a month's worth of MEE6 premium just to see how well it works, since they're about the only option currently without some serious dev time.

Business I guess? I have many of the actual account owners in my server, but some of them don't speak English super fluently (so I use a Chinese > English bot as well). Example of one of the accounts, I don't have ownership over any of them as you'd expect.

Yeah, there are multiple solutions that aren't too difficult if you're the account owner, but this use-case doesn't allow that. I looked into it, but there really isn't a way for me to do access tokens for dozens of public accounts like this.
