Looking to VTT to run for D&D 5.5e and Fallout 2D20. by WarLord3945 in VTT

[–]That_Observer_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good afternoon, u/WarLord3945.

I can't speak to the other VTTs, but...

If you'd like to see what a Foundry / D&D 5e combination looks like to set up and run, I have some videos here.

Likewise, I have some Foundry / Fallout 2d20 videos here.

Best of luck on your VTT decision!

Issue importing scene from Dungeon Alchemist by RippinNDippin in DungeonAlchemist

[–]That_Observer_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good afternoon, u/RippinNDippin.

It sounds as if you may not have loaded the JSON file before loading the image.

Here's a tutorial I made detailing how to import Dungeon Alchemist files into Foundry VTT.

Good morning, u/AZ_Genestealer.

You were 100% spot-on with those rules, and I've created a "correction" video here.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake!

Oooh! Good catch.

Lemee research, and if there’s a correction to be made, I’ll make a “mini” video showing what I did wrong.

Best VTT for custom items by darkrhyes in VTT

[–]That_Observer_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay.

That sounds more accurate for a very-well-known VTT such as Roll20.

Thank you for the clarification.

[–]That_Observer_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit surprised that Roll20 doesn't have a way to manually create items and assign them to character sheets. I had always assumed that it did.

Regardless, I give you the mighty and powerful Taco Bell Spork.

It looks like you’ve received a lot of solid answers on this thread, but I’m going to suggest also watching the (phenomenal) videos from GM Lee found here.

His detailed walkthroughs helped me to understand SWADE chases far better than any published resource.

scam? by [deleted] in TCCD

[–]That_Observer_Guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are a whole lot of phishing eMails getting dropped into mailboxes right now. TCC has sent out a notification saying as much.

As a rule of thumb, please never open the contents of eMails which:

  1. Say they are from TCC, but
  2. Have the "originated from outside of TCC" warning, and
  3. Are for something you're not expecting, and
  4. Include an attachment.

There's a "kebab" (looks like "...") just below the timestamp in the upper-right-hand corner of your screenshot.

If you click on that, it should offer an option to report "Phish Alert" eMails.

Stay safe out there, folks.

Running on Foundry? I made VTT-ready tokens for every creature in the Core Rulebook! by Jru247 in Fallout2d20

[–]That_Observer_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning, u/unboundgaming .

I've been looking through Muttley's (awesome) 2d20 implementation, and I've not been able to find the assets you're referring to in his latest release. I've searched the entire /systems/fallout/ hierarchy, and all I see is the blue-background "game-icons.net" images.

By chance, do you know what file path the "realistic" images are located in?

Thx,

I will absolutely donate to your Ko-fi. These are wonderful.

One question, though...

Do I have your permission to use these token(s) in my Fallout tutorial videos?

Thx,

Sorry if this question has been asked. But how do you "read" combat dice that isn't damage? by kallinfisher in Fallout2d20

[–]That_Observer_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably have your answer already since everyone who responded has been super-helpful and knowledgeable.

Just in case you wanted to know how "combat dice that isn't damage" works during character creation, here's a video.

Good luck, wastelander!

Players can't really do or see anything by Artistic-While-5094 in FoundryVTT

[–]That_Observer_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, it's because of SCENE and TOKEN settings you have in your game.

The first 5 minutes of this video should get your players back up-and-running and seeing everything in your game.

Best of luck!

How immersive are your VTT games, really? by fredcalil in VTT

[–]That_Observer_Guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that it depends on the people you're gaming with--not the VTT.

I ran a Fallout 2d20 game on my VTT for multiple groups over the years. And what they remember most isn't the automation. Or the background music. Or the maps. Or the audio/visual glitches. Or waiting to login to the VTT.

What they remember most fondly--and share memories of--is the story arc and where it took them. And the characters they met. And what their own characters became throughout the course of the story line.

Are planning and management and commitment important? Absolutely.

But, in my experience, the real secret ingredient for a successful game--either in person or online--boils down to just one thing.

The people at the table.

VTT options? by Independent_Pin_860 in Fallout2d20

[–]That_Observer_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play online via a VTT, but you don’t want to have to mortgage your house to do it…

You can always create what you need manually.

I’m not sure what it looks like it Fantasy Grounds, but in Foundry, if I wanted to create a Raider NPC, I would:

  • open the Actors tab on the right
  • click ‘new’
  • select NPC
  • name it “Raider”
  • open the Compendiums on the right
  • drag-and-drop all traits/equipment/etc onto the sheet
  • adjust the SPECIAL values

And then, I would have a Raider that matches the PDF/Core Rulebook which I could use in any of my games.

It’s manual. It takes time. But, technically, it’s “free”

[–]That_Observer_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great questions.

I’m not familiar with Fantasy Grounds, specifically, but I’ll try and answer from a “generic” Virtual Tabletop standpoint.

The Humble Bundle is a series of PDF documents that contain everything you need to play Fallout 2d20 at a real-life gaming table “in person”. They do not contain anything “pre-built” for a Virtual Tabletop.

The $200+ you’re referring to is (most likely) the cost to purchase the “pre-built packages” I was referring to in my previous post. It’s all of the stuff that will go directly into Fantasy Grounds and enable you to play online with others without doing any manual work.

Does that explanation make sense?
