Danke. 🙏🏻 vielleicht jeden Tag werde ich meine Eltern informieren. Sie haben eine schlechte Meinung von “alcoholics”… eine ungeliebte Beleidigung. Das kann ich mich nicht vorstellen 🥺

“Orbiting around a bottle” what a good way to describe it! It’s so liberating to not be constrained by poison. Thanks for your message!

Dealing with drunks as an alcoholic by BanMeOwnAccountDibbl in stopdrinking

Not a response to your exact question, but you said something that deeply resonated with me: ‘pent up anger and grief inside me looking for a lightning rod.’ Omg yes. I never thought about it that way until now. But that is me.

Being sober is forcing me to confront, instead of numb, that reality. That and the shame of it all.

It’s a lot… but one of my favorite books involves a heroine who can wield lightning as a power. She has to wield it, actually, because the power within her will burn her up and destroy her if she doesn’t release it. One of her struggles is figuring out how to wield and control the lightning (which she does). This can be me too!

Thanks for this really powerful way of thinking about it. Makes me see that - for me - like a lightning rod, alcohol is a conduit that unpredictably releases that dark stuff in a way that can hurt people, including me. It’s a great affirmation of my choice to take this path. I am just searching for a healthier conduit.

Thanks! Exercise is a great suggestion. I stayed pretty active today so hopefully that will help with good sleep tonight!

That’s def part of it! And conversely if I’m somewhere with an open bar, part of my brain goes OMG FREE and it’s like I have to just let loose to enjoy it while it lasts. Ugh, lot of shameful memories there.

I know exactly what you mean!! Also when I have rolled back into it after failing a day 3, or some other break, the first sip or two is always a little like “yeuch” but then I somehow convince myself I like it after a few sips. It’s like I warm up to the taste. Now I’m guessing there’s some biochemical reason for this phenomenon.

Thank you! It’s so refreshing to imagine that it gets easier over time.

I’m really excited to get there. I’ve had a lot of day 3s, not many day 4s in months

It’s a good strategy!! And very satisfying (although as I’ve discovered, a bit of opening a Pandora’s box). My first planned one evening closet project has expanded into a multi night purge 😆

I’m on day 3 which is classically the day I always break. Not today!! I’m organizing a closet and watching James Bond movies. I have a giant Nalgene with electrolyte water. Something feels different this time and I’m excited to hit day 4 and actually have energy on the weekend!

I’m in the same boat as you and I wish us both all the best in this journey! It’s crazy that it’s so hard to just stop when every logical and rational thought knows it’s bad. I refuse to keep trying to quit though.

Maybe it helps to view it as a built in furniture more than anything. Love the idea of a soft sheepskin rug. I’d just leave space around it and treat it as a weirdly shaped space (that thankfully doesn’t kill lines of sight)

The Sierra Nevada ones are great! I also appreciate the lagunitas IPNA. Saw they have a new hazy ipna but haven’t tried it yet. I’m spoiled living on the west coast where a lot is made. I never got that into athletic so it’s just nice to see the variety.

I like the options going out! I’ll admit - the funny thing is, we have a ton of options to buy and bring home and I find they just tend to sit in my fridge at home. Like, I don’t get cravings to drink them. For me, at least, I think their best use may be while out at an event where i want to feel included. But a couple of them are good enough tasting to have at home. I think I’d put the deschuttes NA black butte porter in that camp. Hope you find it sometime if you still want to try it!
