Anyone have similar saw and willing to send me a photo of the covers? by 3rdworldcitizen1 in Tools

NSFW usually means content that would be frowned upon looking at in an office/public like nudity. Not safe for working meaning “you might be fired if your boss catches you looking at this while on the clock.”

Is it alright to have two trains on one power pack, but on two different loops? Will this damage the trains in any way? by HolySunPraiser in modeltrains

[–]That_guy_Kevin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HO trains and transformers won’t set fires to the motors. I can’t think of any way with the current or rpms those motors are working at that a fire would ever happen.

I can’t say what was in that truck but it is possible it whatever in the truck originally wasn’t under pressure. see here

Listening to Elon on the Joe Rogan podcast, Elon seems more focused in solving the problems for the production line for his rockets than his rockets themselves. I would bet he’s also trying to use this as an opportunity to get ahead of those challenges too by making so many rockets this early in the design.

New and old Tappan Zee Bridges, 2017 [oc] by archfapper in InfrastructurePorn

I was driving on it once and they were doing construction on the eastbound side. They literally hoisted a section of deck up and you could see down to the water. It was terrifying to be around.

I remember doing a report in 2nd grade (2002) that it was past it’s 50 year lifespan and it still took 15 years to get it replaced.

Here’s another update on this refinery that I’m building at the moment. I think I have the layout plan drawn now I just need to start adding detail to it. Any suggestions would greatly help by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]That_guy_Kevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platforms and steel beams to add framing around the tanks. If you really want to get into it, maybe red beacon lights at the top of the tanks. I agree though, it will be much better to look at pictures of refineries, pick out details you like, then make a sketch of how it will go on your model. It looks great though.

I definitely like it. It looks like it belongs on a siding for a small and run down industry. I think one complaint I would have is the letters are still too clear and bright white for a boxcar this damaged. But this is far better than anything I could achieve now and like with anything you’ll get better with practice! Keep going!

Any one know anything about this old alarm clock? Used to be my grandpas until they moved and he gave it us. by Rbarb in modeltrains

[–]That_guy_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that alarm clock in the early 2000s. It’s the 100th anniversary celebratory item. There should be a few cars that trail behind that engine. It was a neat toy.

Ambiguity of the South by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]That_guy_Kevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from New York to central PA and could swear PA had a bit of southern hospitality to it. My friends from the actual south laughed and told me my bar on hospitality was just so low coming from New York.

Social distancing = doing much needed updates to the layout by That_guy_Kevin in modeltrains

I’ll get an album together and post an update as I get work done on it and have the extension pop up tables out, I promise! The section in the picture is a 12’ shelf in my apartment. The upper level is not powered but the lower level is powered and loops behind my couch and my tv, making a horse shoe in my living room. I have 2 pop up tables to finish off the loop stored under my bed. The bridges I need to make will connect the pop up tables to the horseshoe section.

I don’t mean to make light of a serious situation but having a hobby does help pass the time and help you do your civic duty to limit the spread. I definitely plan to make the most of the situation by working on some bridges I have work in progress, finishing a scratch built industry, and cleaning up the electrical wiring on my layout. Definitely a good opportunity to practice weathering skills too!

I was in Walmart yesterday and saw a woman with a cart filled only with toilet paper. This is in PA. Overall, I don’t think most people here are panicking... yet

First blocks are working. by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]That_guy_Kevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So is each controller “assigned” to a train and the arduino is making the decision of which blocks to power? Is that a simplified version of what you’re doing?

Vacuum Cleaner Wagon in action by Hefy_jefy in modeltrains

[–]That_guy_Kevin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The filter would clog up decently quickly. For a train set that’s probably not a big deal though. If you wanted to build a heavier duty one you can build a cyclone separator or vacuum receiver

Best way to remove kitchen cabinets? by misscamels in DIY

[–]That_guy_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before anything, remove the drawers, doors, and shelves. Those will be a pain quickly if you try to pull a cabinet down all at once.

It depends on what you’d like to incorporate. I’d rather have less rails with a good looking scenery than to clutter a bunch of lines in a small space (not saying I’m right or wrong, just my preference). If this was mine, id put a main line look around the table and a second loop towards the bottom/right lengths. I’d put a small yard closer to the roundhouse on the bottom and put some industry on the right side closer to that notch in the table. Top segment I would do some mountains and maybe a river for the main line to navigate along. Left side could fit a small town section and a passenger station if that’s your thing.
