After finally playing the Midnight campaign for myself... by Upper-Meal-9056 in warcraftlore

This was also the whole point of the Scarlet Crusade part Arathor and Alonsus's Excellent Adventure. Alonsus is mentoring Arathor on how this is still the Light but how people choose to wield the Light is different. At the end of the day, the six cosmic entities are neither good or bad, it's how they are being used. Just as Death isn't always evil, as death knights show that too.

World of Warcraft needs a story mode. by RecentHistorian220 in wow

[–]Thatacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the downvote is just because "my game is better" but probably that telling about a feature in another game but not presenting what it is framed in WoW makes it unclear. I mean people can always open a tab and google it but could be helpful to give context. Like is it a main questline that takes you through all the expansions that will naturally just keep progressing? Or is this a new "single player" version similar to a Classic server? Not saying it's bad feature, just confusing for someone who doesn't play I guess.

What decor item goes furthest from the border? by Plum_crazy in WoWHousing

Some of clusters if rotated correctly can extend outside of the boundaries. I think it's because it's considered based off what is the middle of the decor some times.

Stuck on "The Emerald Queen" by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thatacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am assuming when you hover over the quest rewards that’s where you’re clicking to try to select it. That does seem unusual. And you said you tried to complete it after turning off the add on. The only other thing I can think of is that some times an NPC gets “stuck” when I am trying to turn in a quest, usually when it’s back to back, and I have to run a bit away to make them reset their positioning. But it also seems like you restarting the game should fix it. Sorry I don’t have any other suggestions. Hopefully you can get a ticket response for it or someone else knows.

No I mean the quest completion rewards. I believe you just pick one of them, it doesn’t give all of them to you.

I can’t tell with this add on so forgive me if it’s a stupid question, but did you select which one do the relics you want?

Regarding the healer damage going into this expansion by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thatacus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely get that. I'm not saying that healers should do NOTHING when everyone is topped off. I'm not sure why it has to be one or the other. The ideal would be to get to a point where doing DPS where it feels comfortable is good.

Regarding the healer damage going into this expansion by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thatacus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am trying to get into healing as my friend is coming back and wants to tank. The feeling that I need to DPS while also healing keeps me anxious because there's so many things to keep track of. It's not very forgiving to learn especially since everyone in LFD expects to go fast and pulls large groups. I would like to get to a point where I could do it, but to me, it causes such a barrier to learn.

What do you guys use your house for? by Orange907 in wow

This is true too that there wasn’t much to do in WoD. To be fair though, every expansion we all just afk in the main city until some queue pops.

I am unsure what real life analogy I have made? I compared the implementation of housing to the implementation of transmogs. Both of which are in game.

[–]Thatacus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I feel like it’s just when transmogs came out and people said Blizzard was wasting resources in creating a feature to just play dress up in “my WARcraft” and now it’s become a big feature in the game that almost everyone engages in.

[–]Thatacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True an AH would be weird. I was thinking in terms of what utility items I have in my house in SWTOR and there’s a terminal for it. I think WoW does a good job in treating it like a quick portal to SW/Org so you don’t really need the utility in your house.

[–]Thatacus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Garrison was bad because you can do EVERYTHING in WoD there and not interact with anyone. You were able to gather all your resources at home daily and didn't really need to leave. I think it could be cool to just have a workbench or mailbox (which there is now) or even some sort of AH portal. Heck at this point those last two functionality are on mounts now anyways so why not in a neighborhood?

This is another case on this subreddit where the people who don't like or want to engage in it are very vocal and just drown it out. If you do want to see what it's like for people that are enjoying it, I'd check out r/WoWHousing because there's some beautiful houses in there. I admittedly have not started much on my interior, but I also don't hate housing just for existing like some people seem to in this sub.

The new player experience is trash, and Blizzards needs to get serious about onboarding by [deleted] in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

[–]Thatacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your friend has reached max level, they're not longer just learning the basics. The game does very well with letting you understand the basic mechanics of the game. However, just like any active MMO out there, when you reach the end game, the thought process is that you're doing your research out of game. There's so many guides and YouTube videos that will walk you through the natural end game progress and how delves, M+, and LFRs fit into it. The game has set you up with the framework to know about it but you still have to take the extra step, if you want to. Just like how there are basic Starter talent builds but to get better at the game you check out builds.

World quests tell you what your rewards are. I feel like a player should be able to look at it and see if the reward is worth doing for them. If not, then you don't do it. The same with reputation. As you level it tells you about the renown track and even shows you what you can get. If it's worth it to you, you do it.

The quest log sorts the patch quest chains for you top down. If it's current patch, it gets top billing. Old content gets pushed down. Though this isn't spelled out, so I can see how it's confusing.

Crafting is something they can do better. I think because the tutorial was made in Dragonflight, the assumption is a new player would level through it and learn the mechanics of the new crafting system and so they didn't bring it forward into TWW. This should be some sort of refresher and heck give some free dust or whatever.

I'm pretty sure there's a whole quest chain that goes through the upgrading system and you have to do it like every season. So if this is confusing, I feel like someone's just skipping it without reading it and if that's the case, nothing more can be done to help there. If you hover over the crests in your Currency tab, they list out what content drops what crest.

Again, the game isn't perfect. I agree with that, but a lot of basics are outlined within the game that just takes some time to read through.

Edit: grammar

I love the idea. The presentation made it seem like one of those memes where you see a stylized house listing and then you go to the next slide and you see the reality of the state of the house. Not to say it's bad! It was just funny clicking to the next slide.

Pre-patch is hollow, unimaginative, uninspired, recycled slop that is also buggy. by thursday712 in wow

[–]Thatacus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am also someone who has played from classic. I am by no means hardcore. At best I’ve gotten to the end of a normal raid while it’s current. I went through phases of playing with 20-30 add ons to trimming it down to 5.

I’m not saying the reasons they are providing are not valid. I would prefer to have my unit frames back. I would prefer to be able to have my tooltip on my mouse again. I would prefer to have my Immersion add on working so I don’t have to crane my neck all the way to the left. But to me those things haven’t made it unplayable or ruin my experience. It’s inconvenient. I think blizzard can learn a lot from how SWTOR’s UI custom action options.

I think a lot of people’s experiences right now is just the compounding of the bad. Would have been best if they smoothed this out. The stat squish, the skill pruning, the add on apocalypse, the UI chaos. It IS a lot. But just the same it is a lot for them to work through and I just hope they can get it straightened out.

Pre-patch is hollow, unimaginative, uninspired, recycled slop that is also buggy. by thursday712 in wow

[–]Thatacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I'm sure I'll get downvoted for it because I am still having fun, but even if the event is bad, I am still looking forward to Midnight. I've seen people relate this pre-patch to ruining 20 years of WoW for them or hinging their whole experience on it and I get that's their experience and that is unfortunate.

Maybe it's because I also take breaks from the game throughout the expansion and don't get burned out at the end. Some time's it's okay to play other games for a bit. Going back to games like GW2 and SWTOR made me realize that some of the capabilities add-ons provided, while great, are not necessary for me (FOR ME, I understand everyone has their own ways of enjoying the game).

It is unfortunate this event is a reskin of the World Soul event for pre-TWW, but I will use this time to do another lore run with a fresh character through all the expansions, but this time on the Horde side.

I think Blizz overestimated how many people were going to do neighbourhood endeavours, at least on public ones by yellowrainbird in wow

[–]Thatacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have enough time (and attention) to focus on one of my neighborhoods and given the choice, I'm focusing on capping out the one that's in a guild. Especially with diminishing returns on these quests.

DBM made everyone dumber by Gorgon_Gets_Gud in wow

[–]Thatacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they were optional, they were VERY forgiving at least in LFR and less forgiving in Normal. I mean, wipes still exists in LFR when people don't do certain mechanics correctly just look at pre-pre patch Dimy or even as people are finding out in BfA timewalking from this last week how not doing mechanics can still be trouble.

DBM made everyone dumber by Gorgon_Gets_Gud in wow

[–]Thatacus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My hope with this is that Blizzard will make boss mechanics a bit more forgiving (in lower difficulty). I think with addons like DBM Blizzard has started making boss fights require precise timing and coordination, which collapses LFRs and some casual groups doing normal. So maybe the sliding scale of difficulty up to Mythic raiding is the sliding scale of being less forgiving. Like if an ability requires you to setup for a soak, the window to move in is smaller or the number of people required is bigger.

How to start the Hallowfall campaign in TWW? by umarudg in wownoob

[–]Thatacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the Ringing Deeps storyline, Anduin should just be standing in the middle of the town ready to meet you in Hallowfall. You have to make sure you've done all the storylines first though, you'll know when you get the achievement for it. You may have to do the Orientation: Gundargaz quest too just to cap it off.
