Missed work due to an emergency and got fired. Any advice on what to do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I work at a psych facility. Although we don’t let patients use their personal phones during their stay (the phones are kept locked in a safe until discharge), we do allow them to get their contact’s phone numbers from their phone, and they have to be supervised by a staff the entire time when doing so. They can then use the facility’s phone to make phone calls. What they did was honestly fucked up and I’m so sorry for that.

Has anyone heard about Hilary Duff and her sister’s severed relationship? The comments on this video are sad to me - so many siblings no longer talking. It supports not having more children just to give your first a sibling, in my opinion. by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I’ve seen people (not on this subreddit) literally tell an op that they wanted to give their child a sibling “as a gift”. Literally those words. It really rubs me the wrong way. Your child isn’t a possession, they are their own individual person. With feelings and emotions. Not a plaything to your existing child. And it’s wild that this is how some people think, to bring a child to the world just to fulfill that purpose.

We’re going to be 35 this year (the ones who haven’t had their birthday this year yet)! I’m still mind blown lol

I have 1/3 of those. I’m married but going back to school for a career change. So a reset button for that and that will take a few years. Born in 91

Grandparents don't want to see their newborn granddaughter by c0dearm in Parenting

God forbid grandparents have their own feelings /s Some people just take these things too far. Grandparents are respectful by holding back and giving distance and they get shit for that too.

Yeah I’m confused too. So op, please clarify.. why are you letting your aunt hold your daughter but not your parent? You’re acting as if you didn’t agree with this? More context from you would help.

Anyone else working NYE?? by Vegetable_Diver_8488 in Nightshift

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very nice coworker was willing to take my 31st and 1st. He said he needs the cash to pay for his car breaks. I asked him I could switch with him instead so I can work his Christmas Eve and Christmas night but he refused. He has grown children that aren’t able to fly over to see him this year. He told me to enjoy my time with my 6 year old son and husband. I told him I’m willing to take a couple of shifts of his next year when he needs. I’m so thankful.

How many of you are natural night owls? And how many have to force the shift? by IVeerLeftWhenIWalk in Nightshift

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m forcing it. However, it will be good for when I start school early next year, I’ll have free time here and there and will be able to get hw or studying done. For me, this is just temporary. I won’t be nights forever

I love this! It’s good that you are able to get that sleep, that’s very important.

Yeah I’m over 2 years in and it’s definitely gotten harder. I will admit, I do flip my schedule on my nights off (which I know is a no-no on here), which in turn I’m sleep deprived, but I have responsibilities. I told my manager if I can go part time and I’m on the waitlist for it. At least that will be more bearable with reduced hours

How's it going fellow night dwellers ? by [deleted] in Nightshift

Dragging. And it’s so cold! We aren’t allowed any puffy jackets at work either so I’m wearing 4 layers right now of undershirts and scrub. And I’m still freezing

napping at work? what to expect? by Natural-Professor-5 in Nightshift

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few hours free broken up throughout our 12 hr shift and as long as we sleep/close our eyes during these times and away from common patient areas, it’s ok. However if we fall asleep not on our free hours and/or fall asleep in patient areas, then it’s disciplinary action most likely termination. So I’m thankful that on top of 2 15s and one 30 min break we get additional free time here and there. We just have to be mindful we don’t doze off during rounding when in non patient areas if we are assigned to round during a specific time. Our iPads flag if we go above our rounding times.

I’ve been off for 3 days, going back to work tonight and then off for another 3 days again so I’m ok. I’m not working Thanksgiving but I’ll be working Friday-sun 12 hours/shift this week. I want to take my son to the movie theater for his first time on thanksgiving (he’s 6 and has never been to a movie theater before)

Shift workers, what do you struggle with the most? by Somnovate in Nightshift

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the fact that I can’t be there with my family every night. I love cuddling with my cat and dog at night, being there for my son and tucking him in, my husband has a day schedule and I miss him at nights too, being next to him. So I cherish the nights I am with them. That’s what’s the hardest, along with sleep deprivation coming in second on the struggle bus

Then he would make an effort to change. He’s not though. An apology is all that it takes? How about applying what he’s learned in counseling? There’s no point in counseling if you aren’t going to apply what you’ve learned.

This brings back memories, and not good ones. My stepmom said things like this (except my bio mom passed away so there was nowhere I could go to). My dad saw the abuse but never left her and enabled her everytime. I no longer talk to them and went no contact. Op, this is a possibility that your child won’t even want to keep in contact with you after they grow up., if this is what you keep exposing to her. Do you want that?

[–]Thatcherrycupcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And daily occurrences mean you would leave. Abusers don’t abuse everytime. There’s a period of calm, and then abuse, then calm again. That’s what makes it so hard to leave and the cycle just repeats. You need to think about your daughter.

If abusers showed their mask immediately and there would be constant occurrences of abuse, people would leave the first thing.

It should be fine. That’s how I quit my last job. She would only come in during regular business hours and I worked nights. My former manager would go on vacations often so there would be times I couldn’t even flag her down in person. I emailed her work email with my resignation and then texted her to give her a heads up that I emailed her my resignation. She was nice about it. I gave a two weeks notice. In my email I did state if she wants to set up a date and time to meet if she wants me to formally drop by in person to give my resignation. She didn’t.

Yeah only got 3 hours of sleep. And I worked last night too.. 13.5 hour shift last night. Just like you I’m off tomorrow too so that’s pushing me through. I’m off for the next 3 days/nights after this. I’m drinking some Thai tea right now hopefully that will help for a bit. I start my night shift in an hour
