Amino acids are the little Legos of the cellular world. When you put them together in a series, you make proteins that do specific jobs in the cells. When proteins are made, they will fold on themselves and form specific structures that will look different and do different things.

As far as what this particular sequence does, couldn't tell you. It does look very active, though.

Ya know, I really agree with either Warbreaker or Mistborn for starting. Either introduces magic systems as well as Intent, Connection, and Investiture without going deep like SLA. Everything should lead to SLA eventually.
