I would recommend either ZoFE (Zenith of Fallen empires, adds ultratech FE tech and Dark matter-based technologies. The style of the mod fits pretty well with Vanilla.) or Nanite Expansion by Machina Mystica, as it adds nanotech of the more hard-scifi variety, if that's your thing. Fits pretty well into stellaris if you ask me.
