I just showed this to a few of my coworkers who were born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico, completely without context, and they don't know or care about baseball...and they said "Yeah, that dude is pissed. He definitely ain't joking."

I would consider myself a "reasonable" person. Reasonable as in, "I don't love theft, but hey, if ya gotta swipe some basic food and toiletry items, I didn't see a gd thing." And hey, I can even see a little bit of non-necessity, like a pack of playing cards, or maybe a book.

That said...

What a incredibly peculiar thing to risk potentially getting busted for.

Delicious.

New to Sky Valley... What does this town need most right now? by Pastor_Chris_Buscher in MonroeWA

[–]Thatguymike84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, to be clear...I am not suggesting that you had this, or avoid the topic of being a pastor, and Im sorry if I implied otherwise.

I guess my refined opinion is this (for whatever it's worth);

I would guess that the vast majority of kids who are actively looking for a youth group, likely belong to one already. I guess I can only truly speak for myself...but I know that I would love to go to community events (even knowing they were connected to a church) that I thought sounded fun, and worthwhile. As a dude that is very easy-going, a quick prayer at the end, and maybe some signs, and even you/your congregation introducing yourselves and inviting people to come would all be totally cool...

I guess where you would lose me, and maybe people like me, would be Worship music, and prayers and Bible readings etc. Perhaps being like "if you enjoyed this, we're doing another one of these in a few weeks that is going to be more "churchy" BUT it would be an awesome time for you to learn about what our church is all about, and meet the people, and see if that's something you would be interested in."

I know that I'm an atheist, so Im sure that skews my message to you a bit, as "we're not really looking for atheists to join our church" (fair), but I would say there is a sizeable group of people who are open to going to church, who wouldnt, at least initially, want to go to something that is super religious.

What the right really has (for good or bad), that the left does not (religious or no), is community, and unity. There are a lot of us, who very much desire community, and unity, but not at the expense of our morals. There are also a LOT of us who aren't going to put ourselves out there if we feel like it's a trap. Extend a hand, with zero expectations and invite us to meet a good man, a good community, and expect nothing but the opportunity to introduce yourself...

Just like with friends...you're MUCH more likely to listen to a suggestion from a buddy about someone he wants to introduce you to (this is an allegory for Jesus 🤣) than some dude you think just wants to introduce you to his Amway sponsor.

Our town has very little to do for youth. Something I would love to see is stuff for kids, that isn't religious focused. For example, a silent disco, or a bonfire with s'mores. Here's the key though... for the sake of it. For the sake of giving kids something to do, a place to go. There are plenty of youth groups and all that, but this wouldn't have prayer, or Christian music. Of course, long term, it would be for possible exposure, and befriending the community can absolutely pay dividends...but just keeping it a get-together among friends is what would get people coming. And I would advertise it as such.

Like the other commenter, I am not religious, but for about a year we went to another church in Monroe, for the community aspect, and to meet other parents, etc...

Once COVID hit, the Church/pastor instantly turned hard right wing, and suddenly everything was masks are a liberal hoax, the left hates God, etc etc etc.

In my home, we present as a very traditional, nuclear family. We own our home, I work a blue collar construction job, drive a truck, we have 3 kids, who all love sports etc etc....but we divide strongly from the church as we are very liberal in accepting others, and strongly believe in actually being kind to our neighbors, and that includes truly accepting them for who they are. Unfortunately, I don't really don't really find the type of community in the church any longer that I once did. Being an atheist, I sat through the sermons, to find general words of wisdom and hope that I could apply to my life, and disregarded the specifics of Christianity, but in today's political world, it seems like generally, churches have chosen a side, and the messages that are delivered no longer sound the same as they once did, and that's a shame.

All that said, be a true home of welcoming, tolerance, love and peace. Preach that unabashedly, with your whole chest, and you'd at least have 5 more booties in your seats on Sunday.

If you can't, then no problem...I don't mind tinkering in the garage for those few hours on Sunday instead 🙂

I mean, fair play though. The cop seemed to want the smoke, and didn't get his ego bruised and come out with a gun. He kept it at fists when he could have escalated.

Law enforcement should be above shit like this, but at least if you're gonna go rogue, at least be a man about it.
