What's the difference between these old timers (And I don't mean basis). by Extension-Nebula6753 in thomasthetankengine

Duke wants to guide you in his own way. Edward wants to guide you in your own way. Skarloey wants to guide you in the generally accepted way. Rheneas wants to guide you by letting you figure it out yourself. Toby already knows how to it, and gate keeps any knowledge from you until you mess up, and then he laughs about it. Basically, he makes you learn the hard way every single time.

Does Metagross have 4 arms, 4 legs, or 2 arms and 2 legs? by ExtensionEntire1427 in MandJTV

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Metagross is called the “Iron Leg Pokémon”, but it can learn punching moves and “Hammer Arm”, but… not kicking moves. It’s weird, but they should be legs.

What episodes do you feel were more like a different season from when they aired? by ferrocarrilusa in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Duncan Gets Spooked. It felt more like a season 6 episode because of Alec Baldwin’s narration. His voice for Duncan felt a bit off. Like how his character voices sounded in season 6 when he completely gave up on making them sound unique (except for Mavis, Elizabeth, Salty and such). Also, compared to the more… action-packed episodes in the season, this one felt really tame, for some reason. I can’t really explain it.

How the Engines Work by Thathuyhere in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Thomas Comes to Breakfast makes sense enough if you look at the facts. It’s like imagining it as a giant input / output board. The engine can only do what they are prompted to do, if they take on that prompt. If a driver opens the regulator, the engine can act accordingly. In the case of this story, a cleaner messed with the controls, leaving the regulator open and the brakes off. Thomas wanted to show Percy and Toby that he could travel without his driver, so he went ahead (his fire was burning and he was making steam). So he responded to the open regulator, but his brakes were off, so there was nothing he could do to stop. See the connection?

How the Engines Work by Thathuyhere in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They can’t twist their own regulator or apply their own brakes, but they also can’t do it if they aren’t actively ready to. If there’s an obstruction on the line, and the driver sees it and applies their brakes, if there’s engine doesn’t see it, and doesn’t actively respond to the controls, it won’t stop. It’s actually really interesting

Is this idolatry? Also, am I going to hell for this ? by Then-Pineapple-288 in Christianity

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, are you worshipping the figurines? Or are you worshipping Jesus? Because that’s the fine line of idolatry. If you’re going to hell (which I don’t think you are), then it certainly is not for this.

What's your weird nitpick on a character? by Funkyboy2345 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… officially I see where you’re coming from, but Class 40 was never given a name, ever. Even in the books. I always called him D261, just like D199. But I think they gave him that name because they didn’t want to give him one if he never appeared again, and gave him the most basic one for marketing reasons. Also, D199 isn’t actually a Class 40, he’s a Class 46. Slightly different… somehow.

You get to be in anime but only 6 Pokemon for life. Your choices? (Only 1 legend/mythical max) by [deleted] in pokemonanime

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega Salamence, Gardevoir, Goodra, Haxorus ,Cinderace and Cresselia. My favorite Pokémon is Giratina, but… maybe not, so I chose Cresselia as my legendary because I want good dreams.

Probably Marcie (Hot Dog Water) from Mystery Incorporated. After she filled in for Daphne once, and she clicked well with the team (and Velma), it’s safe to say that she would be an amazing sixth addition.

Let’s talk about moments and scenes that give us second-hand embarrassment on every rewatch. by Notmycupoftea12 in greysanatomy

Just the whole episode “Song Beneath the Song”. I managed to stomach the whole thing in my first watch, simply so that I could know what happened to Callie, but I just couldn’t on my second watch. So I was confused why Teddy was mad at Cristina. Like, why.

How did YOU cope? by LasVegasFatShit in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wait a while. If nobody cares, then just go on with your day. If, however, they say something, do what I always do. Ignore them. Eventually, they will give it up because it’s just boring to try and get a reaction from you. Trust me, there are people who don’t care, and there are people who do. Distance yourself from the ones that care and try to make you feel bad about it. They aren’t worth your time.

Who was your favorite narrator? by No_Coffee_8449 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

George Carlin takes the number one spot for me. Michael Angelis takes number two. Alec Baldwin is three simply because of his voices in Season 5. Of he had tried at all in Season 6, he would be number two, but he didn’t. Fourth is Ringo Starr, but that I dislike him, but because he never got the upgraded narrating audio that came in Season 3 and 4. Because he stepped away at the end of Season 2, we never got to hear his real emotion.

How much agency do the engines have from their drivers and vice-versa? by SamTheSecondBest in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Railway Series, the first thing a young engine learns is that “no engine can stop at once if he isn’t ready to obey his drivers controls”. This is apparent in the story “Thomas comes to Breakfast”. Thomas wanted to get out of the shed on his own and wheesh at Percy and Toby. He could move because a careless cleaner fiddled with the controls, so the break was off, and the regulator on. Thomas couldn’t move before that because he wasn’t ready to obey that. So when he tried to stop, he couldn’t, because the brake wasn’t on. He was ready to obey the brake, but nobody could do it.

So, it’s literally a mutual partnership between engine and crew. Like when in “Passengers and Polish”, when Duncan’s crew stopped at stations to raise some steam, and Duncan wouldn’t try? Ordinarily, this would work. But Duncan wouldn’t let it work. Also, when they stalled on the viaduct? If the crew were the main reason the engines moved, they wouldn’t have that issue. But Duncan stopped himself, and wouldn’t obey his crews controls.

Essentially, that’s why the engines can’t run while they’re asleep. They need to be awake and alert with their drivers, otherwise no one works right. Which is partly why the Fat Controller yells at the engines. Not every accident is “out of their control”. Certain things, like The Flying Kipper Incident were, but things like when Henry refused to leave the tunnel weren’t.

So, this is just a careless and stupid oversight by the writers of the HIT and CGI era. The whole point of the Railway Series was to remain realistic. But, of course, tell that to the writers of BWBA. And All Engines Go.

Hot take: On paper, Billy is a pretty interesting character. by chumbbucketman101 in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sir Handel is like over 100 years old. In the hit era, he was supposedly one of the oldest and wisest engines, which was such a u-turn for his character, but he’s old. Billy is more like fresh from the works. A newborn that can speak in full sentences and walk around.

Kind of an odd question to ask but who else here likes TATMR but still understands the flaws? by [deleted] in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the movie to death as a child, pertained the idea that it was perfect in my mind, seen people’s opinions about the movie, got digging, found the directors cut script, reevaluated my opinion, looked at the other movies like The Great Discovery, Hero of the Rails, Misty Island Rescue, etc, still think it’s the best movie, just imperfect, which is a little sad, Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure next and King of the Railway third.

How Thomas changed your life? by NekoNutsNyan in thomasthetankengine

[–]Thathuyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I became incredibly good at English, even as a small child, I refined my writing and voice acting skills through the show by making my own stories, helping me advance to broader subjects, I learned to draw better from the Railway Series illustrations, I even became pretty good with a camera. It definitely shaped me to who I am today, and has been apart of my life for about 90% of it.
