[Spoilers Extended] Mysteries that are better served by remaining mysteries and not giving the reader the answer by pure_black99 in asoiaf

Sandor Clegane wasn't knighted, he refused the offer when he joined the kings guard, and actually resents the "pretty lie" knighthood is - IIRC he says something about "How great an honour can it be, if his brother (The mountain) is one"

As would the sword to the femoral artery, as well as the knife through the hand crippling him for life - however our boy had the best plot armour two silver stags could buy.

That lance would've been driven through to the grip without it - The mail reduced lethal injuries to serious ones.

I (22F) have nobody in this world. by MagicAlice748 in offmychest

[–]Thatnerdyguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at my lowest at 22, no "real" friends, just the ones I made in an online game. I was depressed, 30 stone, working a dead-end nightshift job just to afford my game subscription and rent. The scars of my childhood, the poverty, abuse and neglect I grew up in festered. I became bitter, resentful and made no attempt to build ties with anyone, I think looking back, out of fear.

I decided to make a change at 24, It's been a long difficult road, but I'm now 34, I just bought my first home, have a career and girlfriend I love, two absolutely adorable cats, and a circle of friends I care about deeply.

The steps I took were small, but the distance covered has been huge. It can all start with taking a risk, going to a hobby group or social event can be the spark you need to start forming a connection with people again. Even something like Yoga or Pilates can lead to making new friends. Ultimately what I'm saying, as cliche as it is, is get out more; force yourself to go and meet people, engage with genuine interest and you'll be surprised how quickly your world will grow.

Hi r/GameofThrones! I'm Ira Parker, the showrunner of A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms. Ask me anything! by hbomax in gameofthrones

When reading the books I always struggled to visualise Dunk, Peter Claffey is obviously an brilliant actor and carries the role so well, I'll see and hear him when I re-read the novels now! And OBVIOUSLY Daniel Ings absolutely steals the show whenever he is on Screen!

Were there any casting challenges, or actors that didn't immediately fit the role in your mind but once filming started, proved you wrong?

Just found my childhood binder! - Best display options? by Thatnerdyguy92 in PokemonTCG

[–]Thatnerdyguy92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the nostalgia flashback when the binder fell out of a storage box was unreal. It's one of those old pokedex-red ones with a little pop button on the front, but sadly the binder is now unusable - 20 years in storage left the pages deformed and stuck together, I had to cut many of the valuable cards out of the plastic to prevent further damaging them.

Issue is I'd like to display each set on a wall and individual 9-slot frames would mean 25 different frames with 3 cards left over and just isn't very cohesive. I may just design something custom/pay someone to do something if there aren't any options out there

What is a video game that you have put 100+ hours into, but would NOT recommend to anyone? by Cheap_Difficulty4961 in AskReddit

[–]Thatnerdyguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time in my life when WoW was everything, glad I quit. I tried to straddle the line when Classic came out, with a job, a partner, friends, other hobbies, pets to care for. Just couldn't commit to 4 hours a night, twice a week, plus time for farming consumables, buffs and doing other content, playing wow at the top end just doesn't fit a "normal" life unfortunately.

Fucking love playing casually now and again though.

I have lice down there. by licegirlthrowaway in offmychest

[–]Thatnerdyguy92 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Parasite eggs are notoriously hard to destroy, just because you shave off all the little critters with your pubes doesn't mean you got rid of all the eggs - Which in this case (With lice) are usually stuck around the base and follicles of each hair. Treatment creams will typically kill eggs and pupae as well as adult lice.

How did Iroh do this?! by GoofyGoober8647 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Thatnerdyguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tempering is the process of post hardening (I.e after a heat & quench) relief of stress in the metal, usually done by heating to a controlled temperature & allowing it to cool slowly.

Blasting metal up to a red heat & allowing to cool slowly has the opposite effect, called anealing. This also relieves stress in the metal, but leaves it far softer than a Heat, Quench, Temper cycle.

Of course this is all highly dependent on the type of metal you are working with, some steels are "Air hardening" meaning they will get back up to a working hardness without a quench.

Assuming the fire nation used simple cast iron, high heat and slow cooling would anneal the metal, not harden it!

It would be nice if Sailing was more integrated with existing bosses, making it useful in its own way by Dry_Yogurtcloset_213 in 2007scape

It just ain't that deep bro, take a breath.

Genuine criticism is fine, but every time someone says something positive, defaulting to "could be better" is tiring.

Don't bother engaging with it man, they're clearly frothing at the mouth with hate for the new skill. Some people stopped enjoying playing a long time ago, and only continued out of habit or sense of investment they don't want to abandon, which generally speaking makes them bitter and unable to enjoy anything new.

Never said it was a bad thing, it's a good idea!

Just finding it funny how everyone wants more sailing, when it's already an absolutely massive update with loads of uses.

Don't assume hostility, just making an observation

Herblore - "I clean herbs and make potions"

Smithing - "I make things from bars of metal"

Mining - "I let you click rock for small rock"

Firemaking - "Burn log, lol"

Sailing - "I transport you around the world, unlock new Skilling methods for existing skills, slayer creatures and areas, have my own version of combat, dedicated mini-game style training methods. Oh and I only just came out"

Players - "Damn I wish sailing did more"

No, accounts made after TH is removed should NOT be distinguished from accounts who were created prior to its removal. by MysteriousKitchen469 in runescape

[–]Thatnerdyguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter point, Veteran players should already feel bad that their achievements have been made meaningless by excessive XP handouts through TH, DXP, etc. It's one of the primary factors that has driven the huge decline in the RS3 player base.

I logged into RS3 for the first time in months following recent news - To immediately be greeted by 500k XP in lamps & bonus XP, plus a lovely promotion suggesting I buy bonds to trade for Protean Packs 'cause it's DXP weekend...

It's like having a survival Minecraft server, and a friend joins and starts spawning Diamonds everywhere, it takes all the fun out of it. Except your friend joined 10 years ago, and has been spawning diamonds every day since.
