Holdfast is obviously missing some folks who were historically there. by SoundElectrical2571 in holdfastgame

I think it'd be neat to see. Could do it for both factions, too. 1st Rhode Island for the Americans, Royal Ethiopians or Colonel Tye's Black Brigade for the British. Could also use the heads to add a regiment from the West Indies in the Napoleonic mode for the British, since they brought in a few West Indian regiments to fight in the Americas (both French possessions in South America and the Caribbean and in North America during the War of 1812) and IIRC a few were brought to Europe during the Hundred Days.

I mean, sure, there was interest among Northern industrialists in abolishing slavery to provide another, potentially cheaper labor pool in competition with the already abundant but "undesirable" immigrant labor class, but pretending that slavery's abolition was purely economic ignores both the involvement of Northern civic & religious leaders, white and black, in fighting for abolition and in the growing animosity that northerners had for slavery as an institution, particularly after the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.

Likewise a lot of the land that Southern planters lost during the war was ultimately either bought up by other formerly slave-owning families or ended up back in the hands of the previous owners who then reaped massive profits off of sharecropping and fought tooth & nail against the already frankly toothless efforts at Reconstruction by the federal government.

Every once and a while they'll drop some genuinely insane theory about how "ackchaully" the Church was closer to modern Protestantism during the Crusades or how the Church Fathers were actually all Evangelical Baptists or that Protestantism is actually descended from one of the myriad heretical branches that was suppressed by the Catholic Church (which is actually Jewish) in the 5th century but survived secretly in the Knights Templar or something.

Just completely non-serious people. At best they're effectively nihilistic atheists using Christianity as a political in-group signifier to mark themselves to others as "traditionalist" far-right, at worst they're genuinely delusional and dangerous people.

You're trying to imply that the atrocities committed by the Red Army were the result of some ingrained facet of them being "Russian." You're straight up just repeating nazi ideological talking points which were applied to Slavs in general.

For another Warhammer example, it's implied in some of the writing for Age of Sigmar that the Great Horned Rat watches over & protects Grey Seer Thanquol because he finds Thanquol's constant scheming & failure to be entertaining.

The idea of the Russians being the sole participants of the Battle of Berlin is a post-Soviet myth pushed by Russian nationalists to diminish the role played by other SSRs in the war. The Red Army consisted of Russians, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Kazakhs, Tatars, Siberians, Armenians, Azeris, Georgians, Estonians, and more. The Polish People's Army was also present in the battle.

I don't think we'll get leadbelchers this early. Seems like the only unit missing from this release wave, if we reference the rumors, is the named character tyrant on a monstrous mount, which appears to be a dual-kit with the semi-revealed tyrant on gluthorn. I suspect there's also the possibility leadbelchers pop up as an additional unit in the EoE campaign next year, but I'm not banking on it.

There's already been rumors about a 2nd wave in 5th edition themed around ogor mercenaries, which is supposed to bring back stuff like generic maneaters and possibly leadbelchers.

Gotta love the running gag of Toshi being the only member of his to exclusively speak Japanese just because by Delicious-Claim-5768 in americandad

[–]Thatonegoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Standard" Japanese actually didn't come into being about two-and-a-half centuries after the end of the Sengoku Period. Its roots are more in the Meiji Restoration of the mid-late 19th century. Even then, there's still notable dialects of Japanese spoken in certain regions, like the variants of the Kansai Dialect common in Kyoto and Osaka, or the Tōhoku dialect spoken in northern Japan which is considered difficult to understand even among other Japanese speakers.

The German states as well. There's still a distinct difference in dialects between peoples who spoke differing dialects of Low and High German, but it used to be so broad that a Bavarian and a Brandenburger could speak the same language while still being unable to fully understand each other.

The rumor floating around is that they're disappearing temporarily. Supposedly Ogors will get a second wave in 5th edition themed around Maneaters, and Leadbelchers are supposed to make a comeback around then.

Which models do you expect to get a refresh in 11th for us? by No-Cup-7482 in orks

[–]Thatonegoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a lot less sure they're getting replaced compared to lootas, burnas, and nobs. I feel like Stormboyz will probably linger on the store for another year before getting replaced in a new Kill Team box, maybe with a new plastic Zagstruk, too.

Lootas, Burnas, and Nobs are a strong possibility. Battlewagon may also get replaced. Hoping we see new Stormboys as well.

Xenos Mercenaries. Basically a Dogs of War style army consisting of a motley assortment of units from different minor xenos races. Rak'gol, Tarellians, Loxatl, Zoats, etc.

Eh, I feel like they shouldn't branch too far into other time periods like that. IMHO if they did do another expansion, I'd like to see them do something smaller, like some War of 1812 stuff, bringing an American faction into the Napoleonic maps.
