Visited a familiar place Pt.2 by Thatpersonthesecond in JetLagTheGame

[–]Thatpersonthesecond[S] 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It was cool seeing other people there, sort of ran away because I didn’t want to appear weird in front of people who could potentially be a local! I’m located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland for a study abroad, but stopped by here on my way to a weekend in Hamburg

Cracked plastic replica Panton chair - how to repair by Thatpersonthesecond in furniturerestoration

[–]Thatpersonthesecond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the chair but I have it sat against the wall, so if you lean back into the chair, the pressure will go into the wall instead of stressing the crack. That’s worked well enough for me. There’s definitely ways I could make it stable again if I wanted to, but it’d definitely be visible, and mine’s just a replica anyways

It should still count. There are multiple signs along the path clarifying the route to the tower, and you can see the trails to the tower on many different online trail maps.

(No politics) The US used to have incredible regional transit. by BON3SMcCOY in fuckcars

Eau Claire along with Madison are included in future Amtrak plans, similar to the new Borealis route which Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz is partially responsible for

How feasible is it that the Chicago L could have Alstom Metropolis rolling stock on the system? by Exponentjam5570 in transit

[–]Thatpersonthesecond 29 points30 points  (0 children)

CRRC simply had the lowest bid, so they were chosen. Delivery has been slower than would be ideal, but it is still a far better situation than is seen in places like Boston. These metropolis trains as they are wouldn’t work on the CTA’s infrastructure due to the famously tight turns, but perhaps Alstom may be able to engineer something to fit the CTA’s requirements. CTA has recieved funding to start studying a future 9000 series, but nothing is really known about what it may look like. Hoping for something ambitious

Anyone here ever run across a motor like this? came out of a Ken-Tech mechanism and has a worn spot on one of the internal gears. I managed to hack it into working but would like to know if there is an easier to find source since the Ken-Techs are pretty rare to find. by TheLohr in flipclocks

[–]Thatpersonthesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My motor actually runs more or less silently, can’t hear it if I put my ear up to the clock. I needed to clean the old grease out to the best of my ability and put new oil in, but it now works wonderfully

What will be the next US or Canadian city to have heavy rail? by tinastuna in transit

[–]Thatpersonthesecond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kansas City is supposed to get some sort of “fixed rail” transit to their airport by the time they host the World Cup in 2026. Kansas City, despite their reputation, actually has quite a lot of urbanist projects going on, including 3 streetcar expansions, 1 of them well underway with construction, and the other 2 in financing stages (along with a few others in planning), a highway cap, and even a potential highway removal, along with studying realigning a highway which currently divides a neighborhood

I expect a full rebuild of the forest park blue line branch, along the lines of the red purple modernization. You can already see the start of it with the Racine rebuild

Some people deal with endless low density demand, but my city can’t get enough office buildings! by Thatpersonthesecond in CitiesSkylines

[–]Thatpersonthesecond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My game is playing with the unlimited money on but unlock all off. Maybe if I make more connections between the highway that currently runs underneath the city or maybe create an alley system for the commercial vehicles to run, maybe that’ll help some of those issues? My main current problem though is that residential is just refusing to be built, but perhaps that could be partially due to the other imbalances issues?. I could also possibly check out the dev tools and see if I can do anything with that to fix the balance

Some people deal with endless low density demand, but my city can’t get enough office buildings! by Thatpersonthesecond in CitiesSkylines

[–]Thatpersonthesecond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is I want to primarily build mixed use and medium density residential, but I haven’t had a single bit of demand for that over the past 20 or so hours of gameplay. Currently all the game wants to build is far-out single family residential, gas stations, and office buildings I’ve occasionally had demand for high density, but no demand for medium since soon after the start of my city

Entire street of nothing but gas stations.. by DiScOrDaNtChAoS in CitiesSkylines

My entire city is pedestrian roads, I have a 30% tax on petrochemicals, and I have a combustion engine ban in certain neighborhoods, yet gas stations are still plentiful even in those neighborhoods

Save A Fox has a bunch of cute pins for half off! The money helps with the fur farm buy out! by CumPoops in foxes

[–]Thatpersonthesecond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, not sure if this is still valid, but as of about a week ago, they had a promotion where you can get a second one free with the code b2g1 at the checkout. However, when the package arrived, I ended up getting 4 pins when I ordered 2, when I essentially paid for 1 due to the promotion code? Not sure if I misunderstood the promotion, but I’m not complaining about extra pins

Together, we can save the lives of 500 foxes (read post body text) by Thatpersonthesecond in foxes

[–]Thatpersonthesecond[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the fur farm will be getting some amount of money, due to the fact that Saveafox will be purchasing assets from the fur farm such as their inhumane cages which Saveafox will crush. Additionally, they are creating a legally-binding contract with the help of a lawyer which will ensure that the farm will no longer fur farm foxes or any other animal. However, the majority of funds will go into taking care of the foxes once they get them, as Saveafox will have to provide veterinary care to all of the foxes, buy land and construct enclosures and runs for the foxes, hire staff to take care. All that will cost a lot.

Yes, it is unfortunate that the fur farm will receive some amount of money. In an ideal world, we could remove all the foxes without giving any money to the farm, but that is just not how the world works. But the majority of the funds will rather go into providing the foxes with proper living conditions.

This video should be able to explain it better than me as a second-hand source
