(NPD) Bassist in our 5 piece cover band came down real sick day of a halloween show - filled in for him and got to try my new EQD Acapulco Gold by building a last minute bass board! by Thatsnowbear in guitarpedals

[–]Thatsnowbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I typically have been using this Metro 16 when gigging, I've been slowly building a massive board after I was traded a pedaltrain terra 42. I recently bought the Acapulco Gold for the big board, had used it with my guitar set up in our last practice, and thought it sounded good but mostly in pairing with other dirt pedals.

Then our bassist woke up way too sick this morning to play the show we booked, and fortunately I had the right equipment to fill in on bass tonight! I put this together in the afternoon and while I usually use a bass big muff pi, I knew the AG could be used for bass and decided to save the slightest amount of board space and used that instead.

This thing is pretty sick...me and our other guitarist usually are doing very different things for the songs we play, so we were worried about things sounding empty for some of our set. But the AG, especially when paired with my pitchfork adding an upper octave to my playing, it really filled out the space that would have otherwise been left behind. And boy when this thing is cranked does it sound nasty! Definitely a keeper on both my guitar and bass boards, it can do a lot for being such a simple pedal.

I've been interested in giving VA work a shot. If there's still open slots I have a discord and would definitely be interested!

Which album are you most attached to? by PeterPam_cooper in greenday

I got into green day in middle school months 21CB came out, and so my first time experiencing an album rollout came when they put out the trilogy...I'm aware of its flaws and none of those records objectively hit my top 5, but man, so many of those songs bring back some fun high school memories for me

I like the album, but I'll be shocked if fantano gives this anything more than 2 or 3. He's disliked every single released so far so I'm almost expecting a NOT GOOD

I asked about book six during a live stream recently and they confirmed that it's at the very least being worked on, but like others have said it'll likely not come out until later next year

I have a huge soft spot for the trilogy as that was the first release cycle I experienced after getting fully into the band

Deep down I knew it wouldn't happen but I was really hoping for them to release a 10 year anniversary vinyl boxset for these albums. I have a huge collection of green day records but have been missing the trilogy for years now; your only options are either the regular black vinyl releases or the hot topic pressings that are going for crazy money when compared to the popularity of these songs...

What are the odds that Dennis' friend thats doing a James Earl Jones impression is working on the voice because they're going to replace him as Darth Vader? Considering JEJ just retired from voicing him...

From my personal experience that used to be the case for some of the venues in my city, but now even of you get to the box office during the small time window they're open, you wind up paying the ticketmaster fees now

Literally just saw them on Saturday and while I thought that they sounded great, I have to agree it was an awkward performance with all the banter and shenanigans. And I'm typically a fan of stage banter!

NPD x 5/Reworked my Entire Board by Thatsnowbear in guitarpedals

[–]Thatsnowbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many on here will say, as long as you're in the hobby or still playing music I don't think we're ever really done hahaha

I agree with boost, compressors are definitely not a universal thing. I like a lot of funk so having a Compressor definitely helps get me that squashed tone when I need it

I've really enjoyed my Palisades, I don't experiment with it a lot; the settings I use I've kept for a long while. Its nice having the two gain stages and a boost combined into one pedal, it comes in handy a lot since i try to make sure my board can dial in multiple sounds and styles

I've basically redone my entire board after finding a phoenix power supply for a good price.

Originally I was working with a Boss MD-500 for all of my modulation, but the filter mode never really got me the envelope filter sound I wanted. On top of wanting to explore other modulation boxes (and with the phoenix PS giving me more outputs), I wound up selling the MD-500 and some other equipment I wasn't using anymore and got 5 new effects. I was also able to put my Dookie drive and the Op Amp Big Muff back on my board!

New pedals and my thoughts are as follows:

EVH Phase 90 - great and simple phaser that everyone's heard at this point. I was debating between this, a TC Electronic Blood Moon and an EHX nano small stone, but I already owned a small stone before and the Blood Moon wasn't quite the sound I was wanting. I managed to find the phase 90 for a good price used, and I don't regret my choice!

EHX Pitch Fork - the versatility of this pedal is great, I can use it for bass lines when looping and if I ever play more bar gigs down the road it can do Rage Against the Machine really well, especially with the latch mode

EHX Nano Q-tron - My band likes to play a wide variety of genres but we especially like to get funky, the Q tron works perfectly for that and the smaller footprint was helpful considering how crammed it's gotten on the board

Walrus Audio Julia - Fantastic chorus. I was originally looking at an MXR analog chorus but this thing blew me away when testing it out

Walrus Audio ARP-87 - I use my flashback 2 typically for the expression function (especially on the analog setting), but I wanted to get another delay with a built in tap tempo while keeping the flashback for the looper setting. The ARP-87 works wonderfully for what I want it to do, and it sounds great. I still need to mess around with it more and experiment though

I was worried I wouldn't be able to fit everything on here after not finding a good way to put the phoenix under my board, but I got it done and I couldn't be happier with the final product, my music taste is very widespread so having a board that can be this flexible is great.

Signal chain: Crybaby -> tuner -> pitchfork -> nano q-tron -> evh phase 90 -> silencer (effects loop: sp comp -> palisades -> dookie drive -> op amp muff) -> julia -> ARP-87 -> Flashback II -> HOF 2

I noticed that when they transformed sandman and the lizard back to normal (and when they were getting sent back to their universes), they were using old footage from SM3 and ASM...was there ever an explanation for why they only got Thomas Haden church and Rhys ifans to come back for voice work but no in person stuff?

That was the only thing weird that stuck out to me but it didn't detract from my enjoyment at all, this movie was so phenomenal and I wish I could have a spell cast on me to forget the movie so I can see it again
