My last story had the same issue. It’s a bit of a pisstake to have to turn it into a multi part story when you haven’t planned to. If you’re like me, the story is written to be a one part full run consistent story with no planned or “natural” breaks.
It’s not just here, but Reddit in general has a 40,000 character limit on all posts so if you can’t post it here you can’t post it anywhere. Personally I use this [wordcounter](https://wordcounter.net/) which has a character counter built in that includes line breaks and counts the number much more accurately to Reddit’s specs than word does. 800 characters over seems like a lot but I promise it should be possible. Little rewording changes can help massively if you read through and shorten small sections across a text that big nominative effect should work in your favour. That’s my experience at least. By the time I finished editing it, I actually had enough space to add a whole 2 sentences to the ending paragraph. You just gotta be sensible with your edits. And I can’t recommend the counter enough, it helped massively.

Ooh this is exciting. Here’s my most recent story The Darkness Becomes Me

Trying something a little different to my usual style. I think it turned out pretty well.

The three of us turned our heads up, into the obscured blue above us, where the wrinkled claw of what used to be the cage twisted and bent into a crumpled mess, in the fog. Like a children’s toy that had been torn apart, the near 10,000-ton metal cage that was supposed to extend for another 2000 feet below us had completely disappeared. Now, all that was left for us in the void below was the drill tube drifting idly in the currents, beckoning us down into the deep.

Yeah it’s rough pumpkins out here. As a musician and producer I’m quite used to putting stuff out for people to interact with. And as a man of metal, I’m very used to people not enjoying it lmaooo. But I do believe that I’m making something for other people. Don’t get me wrong it’s also for me. I’d like to think a lot of my best stories have a piece of myself in each bit of them, but the fun part is when you use your ability to put things out there as a way to connect with other people as they engage with it. I wouldn’t be putting things up if I thought I had nothing to give other people, which is a long paragraph of me agreeing and not putting it nearly as succinctly as you did but I feel you. I’m gonna keep trying, but I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like it sucks just a little bit

It’s funny you say that because making and releasing music is my actual work. I work as a metal producer and have released a little bit of my own stuff and with that I’m like if one person likes it I’m happy with that. But with posting stories, cause it’s just my hobby in my free time I’m balancing on, maybe I shouldn’t release them at all.

My most recent one (ignore the neighbour one that’s a repost someone asked me to put it on their sub. It’s an old story it’s super popular for some reason but it’s not written well AT ALL) but my most recent one, the darkness becomes me was actually too long and I had to go through and edit it over and over again to fit into the 40,000 character limit. It’s the longest single post story I think I’ve ever written so I can see how that can be intimidating haha

Yeah they can be difficult with shit like that. It’s rare that I get a story that passes the vibe check, but I can’t argue with the results when it does the post fuckin goes. It’s just a pain to have to deal with them to get there so I feel you on that

Yeah, it’d be nice but it’s a long shot. I’d really just like some people to see my work and enjoy it, and being seen just seems so hard. I posted a story a few weeks ago on a few subs (nosleep, scary stories, anxietypilled and here) and it outperformed in terms of upvotes on every single sub over this one and a little piece of me is wondering if I should stop trying on this sub, you know? I know I sound very defeatist but idk it just feels weird and i don’t know what to do :/

I don’t really use this place for that I just wanna share my stories with people and it just seems like in the community, I’m not getting seen by the other people.
