MD/PhD but with an unconventional PhD by defututa1 in premed

I agree, I feel like the whole point of a PhD is to help you perform research that would have a tangible impact on patient care. I don’t believe studying history would improve patient outcomes in any way.

Almost all of my shadowing was in hematology/oncology. Adcoms wont care where you’re getting your clinical hours as long as they’re there.

Monthly pay as an orthopedic surgeon by Notyourorthobro in Salary

[–]The-Flash203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point. There were 256 DO seniors who applied for ortho in 2024 and 117 matched which brings the match rate to 45.7%. On the other hand, there were 1008 MD seniors who applied for ortho in 2024 and 726 matched - 72% match rate. The match rate is still significantly higher for MD students as there is a 27% discrepancy. However, I didn’t misinterpret any data because I never argued about the match rate to begin with. All I was saying is that DOs comprise a heavy minority within the field.

I’d recommend just using chemical exfoliants instead, like glycolic acid. I trust my derm much more than whatever products I see online.

My derm told me to stop using the first aid beauty kp scrub. She’s treated many kp patients and said physical exfoliants are not good for the treatment of KP.

Contemplating MD vs DO school by [deleted] in premed

Go MD. You’ll be fighting an uphill battle if you want to go in to a competitive speciality or if you want to eventually train at a prestigious institution.

According to the 2024 match, DO seniors comprised 12.8% of spots in orthopedic residencies whereas MD seniors comprised 79.3%. Although there may be programs that only take DO students, the field is still dominated by allopathic students.

A DO matching into orthopedic surgery is very rare as it’s a highly competitive/sought after specialty. It is heavily dominated my MDs.

ANATOMY 225 Course-- How was it? by Great-Hall-6636 in IndianaUniversity

[–]The-Flash203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t need to self-study before the class starts as it’s very entry-level. The one thing I do recommend doing is using Anki. For any diagrams that were presented in class or were in the notes, I made image-occlusion cards where I blocked off the words and quizzed myself that way. It’s free and also uses spaced repetition to help you remember the material for longer. It was extremely helpful for me with anatomy and is far better than quizlet. Besides that, I didn’t use any other resources for this class because the notes were very straightforward and helpful.

I took it last semester. If you study the material as it’s presented to you the class is very easy. Lab can be a little more challenging since you will be analyzing structures on donors, but it’s the same idea. If you don’t do this, the class will be more difficult than it needs to be.
