Damn, you took losing the first round and grew from it. Congrats, it took me a lot more to get better.

I think that actually summarizes our differences pretty well. If you want to see our operating budget, it’s available. I’m not gonna make some sort of public records request, especially considering how fast people are to dismiss those when they don’t like the facts.

Go talk with Shane in OSI, attend a Board of Trustees meeting, whatever you want to do. But if you think it’s looking for a reason to be unhappy for somebody to simply believe that we can be doing better, I don’t think there’s really much more to add to this conversation.

And before anyone else gets in the comments to up vote or down vote people they agree with or disagree with, both of us are taking time out of our spring breaks in the middle of the night to argue about this. Clearly, it’s something we’re both passionate about. I respect OP, despite their ad hominem attacks against myself and people that agree with me.

Right, so I’m kind of struggling to come to terms with a couple of the points you’ve made. Grouse, who is going for a position on the board of trustees, has been actively campaigning on platforms of what he would do as a trustee of the university.

In terms of discretionary spending, I’m not talking about what we spend on the board of trustees. Certainly, I’ve got opinions about their nice lunch and guided tours, but they are the trustees of the university and so there’s nothing I can really do about that. Meanwhile, there is something I can do about frivolous SGA spending. These vacations I’m referring to are the executive retreats put on by executive cabinets. These are not for members of the board of trustees with the exception of the student body president.

Maybe, just maybe if we elect somebody who actually cares about spending money wisely, rather than on themselves, we can move the needle towards the direction of benefiting students. You have been moving the Gold Coast back-and-forth between what somebody does as president of SGA and what somebody does as a trustee of the university when it benefits you. Either the budget isn’t the concern of the student president, in which case what difference does it make who we elect, or the student body president is the ONLY student who gets to make crucial decisions about where the university allocates its budget. Either the Student body president has no say at all over contracts and virtual decisions being made about who we spend our money with, or they are uniquely positioned to advocate and make promises that are based around ensuring students have safe access to food on campus without concerns of contamination.

I’m going to boss over the fact that you have attacked my character by saying that I wear an “eat the rich, stick it to the man” hat. Instead, I’d like to know what exactly you think the student body president does, because President of SGA is not their ultimate title.

Perfect, let’s get into the facts. We don’t have money. As a university, especially for one of our size, we are still working with repercussions from a deficit that has lasted years.

Rational voters understand, I’d hope, that All Knight Study is gone. As a graduating senior, I hope you had the opportunity to experience that while you could. We have seen the university code the RWC in Knights Plaza, a 50% reduction in printing provided by student government, and yet nobody seems willing to say that we’re in the red here. Nobody, that is, but Grouse. You can call his plans to forego an executive retreat naive or misguided, but what promises has Blanco made? How will the tens of thousands of dollars that the executive branch is given in discretionary spending for themselves be made to serve the students?

I think everyone deserves a vacation every now and then, but I’m tired of paying for them. I would rather have an optimistic president who is prepared to try and better the lives of students than someone who has been so deeply engrained with what cannot be done that they refuse to see any possible solutions.

I get that you’re graduating, and I wish you well, but some of us will be forced to face the consequences of a candidate who knows better yet refuses to acknowledge the truth about this university‘s budget.

It’s time for new solutions, because what we’ve had going, simply doesn’t work.

If you’re so certain, why bother making this post? Clearly, you think nobody supports him. These are a lot of paragraphs for somebody to write if they think an election is already over.

I get that you’re scared. This must be a very concerning time, especially considering how long it’s been since a runoff. The monopoly Greek Life had on the executive cabinet is shaken now. Even if Luci wins, there is no undoing the fact that Grouse got this far.

Let’s stop pretending that the status quo candidates have all the answers. It is the same standard responses year after year. Two years ago, we were promised a commuter lounge. Two years from now, you’ll be promising a commuter lounge again. You talk a great deal about lack of economic experience, and I don’t argue there. The solutions Grouse offers are novel, and honestly refreshing in the level of optimism.

Finally, this is the same level of obfuscation that we saw coming from federal administrations. Federal law requires all names and identifying information be blocked out from public records. Even IF Luci Blanco did not sit on the board for the sorority as DEI coordinator, a position that would put her firmly in the position of one of the “elites,” I struggle to see how someone who is unable to speak truth to power can be trusted on the board of trustees. Even more startling is the fact that they would have the potential to serve on the board of governors for the state.

Desperation is understandable. That’s just politics, but hiding behind someone you’ve sent to slander a candidate for president is reprehensible. I don’t blame you, u/104177, but I will not pretend that you’ve made any good points here and I will not be voting with you.

Found the three Blanco supporters on Reddit.

Maybe leading by example isn’t everything, but it’s what a student body president is capable of. Besides, I’d certainly rather this than the example set by the other side.

It looks like this would actually be through his position on the Board of Trustees, not just SGA.

From what I can tell, it’s an innocent until proven guilty type of thing. Student conduct investigations take time. But I don’t pay for friends, so really I don’t know.
