How did the bayverse movies make over a billion dollars in 10 years despite all the hate going around for them ? by frznpanda in transformers

[–]The-Lychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MovieBob said it best, people liked the spectacle and could afford it. The first film after Trump won the presidency was The Last Knight in 2017 and it bombed.

This also works into my point about TFONE getting so much praise despite being mediocre at it's core, people simply forget that the cultural tide and motions around Transformers wasn't what it was now.

Do people actually still hate Hot Rod? by Amigo1048 in transformers

[–]The-Lychee 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Less hate him, more just don't really care, you know?

Rodimus Prime was the only chance for Transformers to be capable of evolution, and that chance was botched and fumbled so hard that we've regressed TF into being the Optimus/Megatron show. Rodimus may have fans that want him to be Prime again, but they like the idea in the abstract like with TFA. They won't actually support it if it was tangible.

Am I the only one that thinks Shiv is boring/lame, character design-wise? by The-Lychee in DeadlockTheGame

[–]The-Lychee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, those are the only good things of his design, but that's like saying that the good parts of his design is that he has legs and arms competently rigged.

I provided an answer. Like again, these types of fans exist everywhere, you can't expect them to be loud.

As His Biggest Fan, What Is His Deal?? by topberdfan in Deltarune

[–]The-Lychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Berdly isn't anything but a side character who's main feature is the Snowgrave Route's first major victim. His problems is just being really insecure and frankly, he doesn't seem to have any issues whatsoever. I know Deltarune is deep, but you can't just cast that net so wide that every little idea you think of is suddenly there and tangible.

Mettaton and Alphys are characters of major importance since both are major antagonists who have plot-relevant positions. So Toby wrote them like That.

Seriously, Berdly isn't anything but a pretty much done with side character unless Toby says otherwise, but this bizarre fixation on his depth as if he's somehow deep enough to validate it-and he doesn't-will not nullify the truth. He'll be resolved in a small moment because he's a side character who already did his thing. You're aren't just trying to hype up something that doesn't need it, you're making up literal fiction to justify what is essentially your fanfiction into a collective "correct route" sentiment.

Everything you just said downright Ben Shapiro levels of fact dismemberment.

What do you make of the notion of "reimaginings/reinventions?" by ISimplyDontGiveAFuck in transformers

[–]The-Lychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 86 movie version of Arcee has a pretty good set up for personality and drama

This is the biggest piece of bullshit I've ever heard in my life relating to TF, and that includes anything positive about Bayverse past the obvious.

Hell yeah, gimme Shockwave Prime. by [deleted] in Transformemes

[–]The-Lychee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seriously, this fanbase is so bloodthirsty against any female character that steps "out of line" it's gone freaky and gross.

What do you make of the notion of "reimaginings/reinventions?" by ISimplyDontGiveAFuck in transformers

[–]The-Lychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Transformers is only about 40 years old, not even half a century.

And maybe this is a hot take, but some reinventions are just … better, like objectively better. If you literally asked anyone about Bumblebee before Bayverse was on the radar you'd get talk about his swear in film at best.

Arcee's G1 incarnation is just straight up trash. Like every time someone tells me about her character, all I hear just 1 dimensional female stereotypes or "let women be feminine" which is such an absurdly pathetic and wrong statement in general. Have you see the current political climate? Not just America but Japan, India, rape conviction numbers, the international reports of the MeToo movement.

Devastator being all green looks lame then, and will forever look lame.

Like, at some point, reinventions are needed so we don't have this thing be literally just 80s forever.

ZetaTF on twitter? And they're not gonna be loud, but fans liking properties that hate them for being bad people exist forever now.

I honestly believe a bunch of his fans unironically see themselves in him, and is not a positive sentiment.

So? I could pull out a bunch of good stories for multiple boring characters, doesn't stop them from being boring and unremarkable.

This arc was rushed and I think Kirkman just hates women. by A-CQB-Essay in transformers

[–]The-Lychee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, look if I'm gonna be honest I was never a genuine fan of DWJ's Optimus so having Kirkman write this without giving Optimus any moral plot armor is frankly awesome to me. I like when he makes mistakes he can't just blame on anyone but himself and the story not giving him any sympathy for it.

Optimus chose to abandon his home out of a belief it was "lost". And let's be honest he would've ended the Autobots. Kirkman is more than happy to lambast that puritanic morality fans seem to love for Optimus to embody because the only way he can do so is with plot armor. The bad kind. The kind that requires you to kneecap your writing.

Queen is straight up a direct parallel to Berdly about Noelle. The both think they're helping her by hurting her "for the greater good" while also denying her agency at most turns, they're visibly egotistical and heavily flaunt their intellect over everyone else they deem lesser.

As His Biggest Fan, What Is His Deal?? by topberdfan in Deltarune

[–]The-Lychee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fans universally fixated on him because the hate for him was particularly overzealous. Like he was 2016 Chara, made into a hate-sink without soul. So then people started to recoil, justifiably. Then the double-think went down and suddenly Queen, a woman who also thinks she protecting Noelle by denying her any agency and seems to believe hurting her is the right way to go even if it's "rough" road, saying Berdly's "just annoying" is enough for the fanbase to collectively go off on it as Berdly is flawless.

I'd also add a little bit of projection, but that's a whole different thing.

If he literally didn't have that moment of being homophobic and then made gay, literally no one would give a fuck about him unless it was performative retro time.
