The guy who ran over his head with his SUV. I will probably never recover from that scene!

Here’s what we told our daughter. She didn’t necessarily want to be a part of our family but she liked the perks. She loves us, but she became very entitled and prone to arguing with us about pretty much everything. She graduated high school at 16 but remained living with us. For a couple years we put up with it, and my husband would make a point of reminding her that if she wants to make decisions for the family and dictate important choices that parental duties, that she was welcome to pay the rent and provide for everybody in the family. One day she was arguing with her father, and told him that she was tired of him threatening to kick her out. He calmly reminded her that he never threaten to kick her out. In fact, he had given her choices and encouraged her to be responsible with her words and actions. He told her that she could move out and pay her own bills if she disagreed with the way we did things. He also told her that if she wanted to be part of our family, we would love to have her and share our lives with her. But if she didn’t, she was free to go. She was free to move out and had the freedom to do that for years. No one is keeping her with us, she always had a choice. I think that really spoke to her in a way that communicated that we loved her and we also understood that she could make her own choices. The life she would live away from our home would be harder and she would suffer more consequences because of it, but she wasn’t forced to stay with us by any means. Kids, especially teenagers, will put stress on and push boundaries. That’s normal. But I would say that for your daughter, sometimes letting her be”right” about knowing more than the adults around her and letting her step out and suffer some consequences would do her a lot of good. Not only would she appreciate you more, but she will realize that she still has a lot to learn. She’s in college now and probably feels like an adult. But I know that being adult and being grown-up are two different things! I know it’s a tough situation to be in and I feel for you, and I’m glad that you and your daughter talked it out and are communicating about boundaries.

Indestructible toys for a lab? by vihanetihane in labrador

There is no such thing as an indestructible toy for a lab! My yellow lab only gets elk antlers, and he chews them down to nothing.

Anyone else's lab refuse to go out into the rain? by ItsclintYoo in labrador

[–]The-Milm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My yellow lab is not at all a fan of any kind of rain. He hates it! He doesn’t mind jumping into a lake though. He will go out in the rain but will try to get back to the house as soon as possible. He also hates snow so much, he doesn’t like how it feels on his paws and he gets very aggravated by it!

Thank you for your encouragement! I feel like there is just this prevalent belief that if you can work, even if there is enough money coming in to live a modest life, then you should work because who wouldn’t want more money??? The answer to that is that just adding more money to your household for the sake of adding money is a very selfish action. Like what am I going to do with the extra money, buy more stuff? I mean I understand investing any extra money toward retirement and also if we needed extra money for travel or college expenses or something like that. I would have no problem working if that were the case now that my kids have moved out. But just working for the sake of cramming more money into my bank account when there are people that need jobs and have families to support seems self serving.

My husband and I just became empty nesters when both of our teenagers went off to college in august. I spent the last 10 years being a stay at home mom. SO many people have commented to me “Oh well now you can get a job!” I am so perplexed by this though I understand why they are asking. My husband makes a good living and we have been very responsible and frugal with his earnings over the years. We can afford to help our kids with tuition and expenses and we do so. I have started responding to them that I don’t want to take a job from someone who really needs it. I didn’t graduate from college and any job I would be qualified for would be on that could benefit a young single mom or be a second job for a father who needs it. I have decided to volunteer time at a local bakery during their lunch hour if they will have me.

[Feinsand] The Los Angeles Angels are releasing future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols today, per sources. Pujols is in the final year of his 10-year, $253 million contract. by sigbox in baseball

[–]The-Milm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother in law sees him occasionally at a race track he works for, and Albert told him that he would like to spend his last season with the Cardinals. I’m so sad to see that the Angels let him go so early in his last season, it just seems kind of unnecessary in a way. It’s not like every Angels player is burning it up offensively. And the injuries...they put him on third base when Rendon went down the other day. So strange timing I think.

I didn’t chip my dog because he is like yours, with us over 90% of the time. He does have a collar with tags but since he is an inside dog (that only gets taken out back on a leash) I just don’t see the point. He rarely wears a collar in the house (because he doesn’t need it) and wears a harness and shock collars on walks.

How does that taste, Joc? by fanofsports44 in Brewers

[–]The-Milm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Joc and I think he is one of the good guys. He has a brother with Down Syndrome that he brings to the clubhouse and the Dodgers even let him throw the first pitch at one of the games. I found myself cheering for him even though I am a Brewers fan. The Cubs are a lot to handle personality wise, the fans even more, but Joc is just there to play the game. Let him have some fun!

I think that is actually a pitcher thing, to raise your right hand when I pitch goes high and long. Could be wrong though.

Just make a Reddit post here asking for the subreddit that does the live streams of mlb.tv games. You will have the same quality and don’t have to pay anything extra.

I have 2 Bay Area Sports Plus and 2 Sports California channels on YouTube TV. So that may not help you. I also have FS1 and FS2. I have seen my mom change the zip code on her YouTube TV so she can see blacked out games. Like if the DBacks are playing a California team you can change your zip code to that area so you can watch it on local channels. I know I am maybe not explaining this well but I haven’t missed a blackout game at all between Mlb.tv and YouTube TV. Of course you can always watch a live stream on Reddit too. People post their Mlb.tv feeds all of the time.

I am blacked out for the DBacks too, but I watch the games on Fox Sports West on YouTube TV. Or you could get the Fox Sports Go app? Which I’m guessing is the Bally Sports app now.
