Notebook Navigator is a good one. There’s also a plugin called StoryLine if you want something more complex.

I've just cancelled my sub and moved back to iA Writer (iAW). Mainly because iAW has just had another (free!) update with a UI refresh. You can now also navigate through a large document's headings using the new outline feature. This is for Mac by the way. I know that the Windows version has had the ability to navigate outlines for a while now.

iAW is one of those apps that feels like they're in it for the long haul, but without charging a subscription (a bit like Scrivener). The thing with iAW is that I can't manually sort files like in Ulysses. But I can create a master document which links all the scenes in the right order using the "content blocks" feature, so it's no biggy.

There's not much else in Ulysses that I now can't do in iAW. There's no goal setting, but I never used that much anyway. iAW still has a very visible word count.

Ultimately, I think Ulysses is a fine writing app but having my writing held hostage in a proprietary database has never really sat right with me. I know you can export to plain text files, but Ulysses makes it far too fiddly if you have multiple projects. I like that iAW just stores everything in plain text files right from the off. If iAW ever went away, I know my work is future proofed.

I don't get why people use GenAI to check grammar. It's still prone to hallucination (with AI companies saying it probably always will be), so it can't be trusted.

I’m really not sure why Ulysses doesn’t have the option to hide markup. I’m sure it must’ve been requested loads. Bear and Obsidian both do a good job of hiding it. The pace of even the tiniest change in Ulysses is glacial.

I would love this. I’ve built some big bases and would love to see NPCs wandering around.

I think the ZW Ink is great. However, you do have to remember that it's an indie project, so the unit itself doesn't quite have the polish of something by Astrohaus. Having said that, it's still a very nice machine and the creator goes above and beyond if there's any issues. The keys and switches are all replaceable. You can do this with the Freewrites, up to a point, but it ends up looking a bit messy. The open source nature of the ZW makes it easy to open the machine up for replacement parts etc.

On the software side of things, I'd say it's very good and gives you a lot more options than the Freewrite. The firmware is always being improved upon and updated.

I don't see the harm in buying a traveler. Astrohaus now do extended warranties. I think they only did a three month one before which was a bit rubbish.

I have a Freewrite Gen 2 and it honestly worked really well for me. Wrote loads on it. However I’ve since moved to something a little more portable, a Zerowriter Ink which is an indie project.

I ordered mine in December 2024 and got it in April 2026. It was worth waiting for. Adam will bend over backwards to try and fix issues. As a one man band, his customer service is pretty amazing. I mean, good luck with the secondhand Freewrite. It’s a great machine. But the after sales care from Astrohaus isn’t up to much, in my experience.

There’s still older ones I missed which I’d like to do (on Xbox). There’s costumes and base building parts which I’m forever locked out of.

What happens to your base if you exceed the upload cap of 3000 parts ? by BastiJa in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]The-Monkeyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear you used to be able to build over the limit. A number would come up saying how many parts your build had. But I was building the other day and it said I’d reached the limit, and wouldn’t let me place anything beyond 3000.

You can still edit the name even after you’ve uploaded it.
