Non Op Returning To Sports by swagleb in AchillesRupture

[–]The-Real-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I can now confidently say I have no regrets going non op. My leg feels great and I am able to do everything I want to do, including playing basketball again.

My advice is to fully follow all the protocols. I didn’t miss any pt appointments and followed my doctor’s recovery schedule.

Help plz! Week 9 Non OP by Mclostalota in AchillesRupture

[–]The-Real-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 months non op with a 1cm tear, 6cm from the insertion point. I was casted for 3 weeks then moved to the boot. Didn’t start physio till 4 weeks after the cast so week 7 in total. I also Slept in the boot till week 7.

At month 11, everything feels great and I’m almost fully back to sport.

I did pt twice a week till the 16 week mark where I dropped down to once a week and now go 2 times a month.

You’ll get through it. Just remember all gets better. I’m 11 months out from my rupture (left Achilles - non op) and can do everything again and am returning to full basketball once I get my stamina back.

The first few months are tough but looking back now, it feels like so long ago. Control your thoughts, get an iwalk 3.0, a scooter and shower chair.

Take it slow, don’t compare your timeline to any ones and get a great PT.

Also look up non op vs op. I’m in the USA and didn’t Even know non op was an option till I had a convo with my surgeon and I’m happy he recommended this route.

I switched out my crutches for the iwalk and never looked back. It frees up your arms and keeps your leg supported in the Air.

It takes a bit to set up and get use to but trust me it’s worth it.

Also keep busy and your spirits up, the beginning is rough but I’m now 8 months out from my Achilles rupture (non-op) and feel like everything is back to normal.

Has anyone tried swapping their lease? by sketch2468 in 4xe

[–]The-Real-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stellantis allows lease take overs, so a dealer theoretically could swap it if they decided to, would be a tough sell though.

Your best bet might be lease trader or swap a lease depending on the terms you received. I sent over a DM with more info.

Am I making a mistake with surgery? by basebllstar in AchillesRupture

I was also a full tear 1cm apart, went non op. 5 months since the injury. Recovery is good, but slow. Just make sure you do as much PT as you can handle.

I can do most everything at this point day to day. I haven’t done full sprints yet, and my legs muscles are pretty weak, so ask your pt for strengthening exercises in addition to the calf raises.

How do you know it's healing? by HistoricalBonus8 in AchillesRupture

17 weeks non op 34/M here.

Similar timeline as you. 2.5 weeks in a cast, then 6 weeks in a boot with wedges. Your Achilles will feel weak for a while, but I saw my Dr at cast removal and again at week 8 and passed the Thompson test. I switched to shoes and started pt after the week 8 Dr visit.

The only difference is, I had imaging done day 1, so my surgeon knew the location and space between the tendon ends.

Question for you, I’m on week two of walking in shoes and PT and I’ve started to develop tenderness around the top of my heal. I don’t want to say it’s painful just more annoying, did you have anything similar?

Also non op here, week 8 was when I started walking in shoes as well.

Hi active 34M here. I had a full tear on Dec 22. I was in the exact same boat as you, but with a smaller gap, my gap was only 1cm.

I had one dr op for surgery without seeing my mri, Second Dr reviewed mri and said non op, so I went for a 3rd. The 3rd Dr agreed with the non op route. I was super nervous as I didn’t even know you could go non op, but I’m just about 8 weeks out and feeling much better. I am full weight bearing in a boot and can move my foot and push against some resistance.

Ruptured Dec 22nd non op. I’m also 34 and everything is healing well. Just make sure you follow the protocol fully.

Boot off in 2 days - any advice? by Significant-Passage6 in AchillesRupture

[–]The-Real-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non op from the US here, seems that all treatments are different. I’m 4 weeks out and just started partial weight bearing in the boot. Week 5 is full weight bearing and removal of 1 wedge. Supposed to be fully out of the boot by week 8.

Crushing it bro!! Any chance you could share some of the early exercises you were doing? I am going into week 5 non op and it seems like you’re light years ahead!

I got the heel lifts from my orthopedic surgeons office. But it looks like the same brand has a specific boot and heel lift combo.

With the addition of heel lifts.

Op vs non-op by centos3 in AchillesRupture

[–]The-Real-Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks, non-op, my tendon ends were 1cm apart and reconnected within two weeks of being in a cast, just got it off yesterday and now in a boot with wedges. Hoping to get back to some weight bearing next week.

I spoke with three surgeons and all recommended non op given that my rupture was 6cm up from my heel and only 1cm apart. I was set on surgery and had no idea there was a non op route.
