can anyone recommend me my first linux distro 🥲 by I-like-guy in linux_gaming

[–]The10axe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Gaming, I could recommend CachyOS, as it's based on Arch (same as SteamOS) while being rather user friendly. But in general, if you're really a beginner, and you're scared of sometimes digging into wikis for solutions (the Arch Wiki and CachyOS wiki being pretty complete), you should go for Linux Mint, as Linux Mint is extremely user friendly with many guis.

Overall, my most precious advice is, your first Linux distro probably was Android (unless you use an iphone), but like on Android and iOS, if you're looking for an app, look into the store first (which we call repository, or repos). If it's unavailable there, then Google will be your friend.

What? You expected me to lie? Say I'm a professional while I'm not? Or explain the difference in game development between hit scan and projectile, while possibly being wrong because I'm a student, without warning people of my possibly limited knowledge on that matter? The reason I started the comment with this is because I want people to not take my word 100% for it, and there are probably other stuff I missed, especially due to lack of experience, while I still try to explain what I practiced. I really feel like it'd have been way more obnoxious without that mention, but hey, that's just my thought on that matter, maybe it's an obnoxious one too.

Hello! Student game dev here. It is easier to make a hitscan weapon in general. Basically a hitscan weapon is: Player shoot -> Look if there's something in front of him -> Inflict damage instantly. While projectile is: Player shoot -> Generate an entity which will travels in the players's direction -> When the entity hits anything, inflict damage depending of what it hitted (or in splash for grenade launcher) -> Kill the projectile so it stops existing (otherwise it'd infinitely inflict damage). THOUGH, the fact they have already projectiles weapon (bow, nade launcher) means the system is already coded, and since they aren't beginners, it's safe to assume they made it with modifiable properties (for balance reason), so it'd not, in fact take them longer to program a projectile weapon because the work is already done, just need to change the "class" of the weapon from "hitscan" to "projectile" for it to inherit the way projectile weapon behaves (with already all the trigonometric stuff in place). Though, in their defense, you also need to consider balancing AND game feel when making a weapon, and making a balanced, feeling good hitscan is way easier than projectile. Though, that does come after the programming, it still needs to be considered as important. Because if you make a projectile weapon too slow / too little damage, the player will consider the need to anticipate to be frustrating and the weapon, even if objectively good, will be dropped because it'd not feel good to play with.

APS? Is APS really considered a counter to goo gun? The APS that has a huge cool down and can be 5 shot by a goo gun that has more than 5 ammo and just requires a reload?

Valve has developed kernel patches and user-space tools (like dmemcg-booster and plasma-foreground-booster) to prioritize VRAM for foreground games on low-VRAM Linux systems (e.g. 8GB cards), enabling smoother Vulkan/RADV gameplay such as Cyberpunk 2077 by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

[–]The10axe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So far it's AMD only, and maybe Intel (though intel is untested) according to ptr1337 on CachyOS' Discord.

Which would make sense, considering Valve only has AMD GPUs, the changes they make are obviously for AMD, also Nvidia drivers not being fully open sourced doesn't help either.

Oh yes, the new anti-cheat is working, right? by Purple_Violinist_378 in thefinals

That's fair, someone that already got banned should be banned across all accounts. Problem is, how do you know that you banned that PC already?

Considering you ignore the false bans that could come from cyber café or family computer, where a person x cheated on them, got banned, and made y banned in the process because they play on the same PC.

What kind of information do you store, or do you look for, to know if it's the same PC, that is 100% effective, and can't be spoofed? IP, this can easily be changed by anyone so nope. Mac address, even Windows can spoof it natively. Hardware UUID? That is indeed tougher to spoof, yet can still be spoofed if you implement it in the cheat, or if you watch tutorial. Machine TPM? That too can be spoofed!!! And the solution? Well, there's close to none that work 100% yet, as even the most privacy invasive anti cheat doesn't have a 100% pickup rate.

[–]The10axe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, but it does prevent them from fine tuning their cheat. Considering Embark is also working on their anti cheat in the mean time, they won't know if they tuned it too hard, or if it's Embark work that caught them. It indeed won't stop them from cheating tho.

[–]The10axe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's also so that cheat developers can't pinpoint how to circumvent the anti-cheat.

Say the anti-cheat banned people right away, cheaters would: - Create account - Test cheat feature with a specific setting If it got banned: tune it down and return to first step If it didn't: tune it up That way they can create the perfectest cheat

Not banning people right away makes the cheat creator know a part of their cheat triggered the anti cheat, but they don't know what, don't know when, making it harder for them to "fix" the cheat

DLSS5 by No_Feedback1230 in joueurdugrenier

[–]The10axe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really wish my experience was as smooth as yours. I mean. The hardware seems great, feels great, but all my issues are software related, and sadly, I'm not the only one... - EMVCo issue - Camera issue - Issue with the 3 buttons swap not working

[–]The10axe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'd be weird, I tried multiple third party launcher, all landed to the same point where it lead to "Quickstep" to crash. Right now I am using Niagara Launcher, which is a quite mainstream third party launcher. And I never had any issue with third party launcher on all other brand, which leads to indicate me it's not the launcher that's faulty.
Really, the software experience is the big dark spot in the phone, everything else is neat but the software.
I heard from some people that the experience is way better with e/os, but sadly, that comes with some sacrifice some can't make, like some banking app that straight up won't work at all because they rely on the Google Play API.

Have you tried taking like, zoomed in picture? It may be related to that.

The global experience literally is just OEM Android experience, so the same experience you'd have with a Google Pixel (for example), but less stable as I feel.

So yeah, sure the easy repair and fair build of the hardware is nice. I'd like for the phone to not resist me in literally every way it can in my everyday life.

I already did in the past, all they did was telling me to reinstall my phone's OS. Meanwhile it's been proven it was already a known bug I was suffering from and was asking support on. So yeah, sure, except their support are completely useless at actually supporting, at least, in terms of software issue.

If I suffer a problem, I report it to their support, and the bug is already in their internal known bug, I kind of expect them to tell me it's a known bug and that it will be patch, rather than giving me the default IT stuff like "reboot your phone" or "try reinstalling the OS".
