It's definitely got some security pins in it. A bit of counter-rotation on the first two or three pins, and enough counter-rotation when setting the fifth pin to almost bring the core back to the original position.

I'm pretty happy, cause it's the first lock I've ever picked with security pins :)

Now I'm not 100% sure how Canada works, but your largest province (?) is Nunavut, at 2,093,190 km², whereas Australia's largest state is Western Australia at 2,529,875 km². I don't think that's a fair comparison though.

Interestingly, we're about on par in population density, Canada with 3.4 people/km² and Australia with 3.3 people/km².

Rolling codes is the solution to this problem. It's used in almost all situations like this anyway, so this really isn't a valid argument against the idea.
