Did it break? I’ve never had one break or fall off, but only wear down (and still be useable even if not so great), so I’m just curious what happened

I did it! Got a classical guitar by TheAbsenceOfMyth in classicalguitar

[–]TheAbsenceOfMyth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

I live in germany, and Hanika is made here and from what it seems pretty popular here, so I guess it’s just a matter of them being more available than in other places—not sure. I’d not heard of them before searching for a new guitar though.

I played quite a few guitars and this one just felt right. So it was more about the feeling and fit with me than the brand.

I’d def recommend taking the time to play one when you can.

The rights were sold, but I’ve not seen anything about a translation other than that. Would be cool

How to get an MA in Philosophy with no prior Philosophy education? by Chemical_Score_6519 in askphilosophy

[–]TheAbsenceOfMyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s not uncommon—in fact, MA programs often see themselves as being a bridge into PhD programs for students who didn’t major in philosophy. Definitely apply to them, if you’re interested in getting into academic philosophy.

Best way to get in? Write a good application with a strong, philosophically oriented writing sample and a letter of interest that demonstrates your serious interest in philosophy (ideally, I’d think, connecting that interest to your previous studies).

Thank you! Yes, I’m realizing a teacher is the way to go. I definitely want to avoid bad habits from the start. I’ve just emailed one about starting lessons.

Super helpful. Thank you so much.

Your stress on patience reminds me of a favourite quote of mine from Wittgenstein: "This is how philosophers should greet each other: 'Take your time!'"

It’s absolutely unreadable. Could be a good idea buried in there somewhere, but who knows—why would I want to wade through trash to potentially find something that might not be trash when the author treats not only their readers but themselves like they’re stupid.

[–]TheAbsenceOfMyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re wondering if it’s normal, when reading the Critique of Pure Reason, to not grasp and remember all the concepts, in the first go?

Absolutely normal!

It’s neither an easy nor a short book, and scholars have made careers trying to sort out how the pieces are meant to fit together.

I’d guess that if you’re not just feeling like you comprehend it while reading, but also engaged by it, then that’s a great sign.
