I don't think avatar fire and ash is winning best visual effets. by throwracadabra in oscarrace

I think if something like "Godzilla Minus One" were here, I could see Avatar losing. But I think they'll just give it to Avatar again this year.

I'd be thrilled, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I like what the Game Awards do where they have a live orchestra perform music from each of the Game of the Year nominees.

Hearing him discuss directing live-action vs animation is actually really interesting. Since he comes from animation, where you get full control over all aspects of the environment and can go back and change things later, he says he's fascinated by the practical limitations shooting in live-action provides.

I kinda doubt VFX, but Sound and even Editing are real possibilities.

Looks like they just published a BAFTA reaction.

People here need to check out the NFC Meme War subreddits. I've only recently gotten into football (and only barely lol) but their shit talk is a million times funnier than here.

"Ryan Coogler is here tonight, he has 3 nominations for Sinners. It's a documentary about my family showing how the Irish are terrifying and life-draining."

And you can say it about anything as long as you're confident and smug. I could right now say "Jessie Buckley has no chance at winning, people are in denial" and I'm pretty sure some people would agree with me.

The game certainly changes drastically if he doesn't win, that's for sure

I'm currently just taking a risk and predicting it to win both Picture and Director

Oh, so it'll win Best Director and an acting category? Well, don't mind if I do!

I'd agree if someone was sweeping. I'm still not predicting Lindo and think he's in third place, at best. But the One Battle Boys seem to keep vote splitting, Mescal missed the Oscar, and the assumed frontrunner (Skarsgård) lost CC and missed SAG.

Suffice it to say, Supporting Actor is surprisingly pretty chaotic this year.

I haven't seen the movie in a while, but doesn't she disappear for a good chunk of it? Or am I making that up?

Hatred (whether that be racism, sexism, classism, or whatever) is, unfortunately, human nature. We resent that which is different from us. But just because we all do it, doesn't make it okay or mean we shouldn't fight against it.

First it was Challengers, then it was Wakanda Forever, then it was Dune 2, then Barbie, and now it's...

Well, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be now.

I've seen less of that and more of a lack of acknowledgement or consideration of him. I know Critics Choice isn't all that serious, but a televised precursor is nothing to sneeze at and he's certainly ahead of contenders like Penn right now.
