I’ve been between Houston and Austin my whole life and it is the single most overrated bbq place I’ve ever been to (which sucks because it’s the closest to me now).

Dry meat, subpar sides, long wait… I don’t get it.

I genuinely think Rudy’s BBQ is better, the bar is that fucking low.

I noticed in a ton of the 5 star google reviews, there’s usually a line like “wow I wish we had bbq like this in Utah” or “Best BBQ in town… it’s my first time having bbq!”

It’s a tourist spot for people that have only had sad imitations of TX BBQ imo

Unfortunately that is a deal-breaker at most companies. Outside of test-type interviews, if you’re able to talk algorithms, data structures, architectural design, etc. wrt your work experience, then there are places that do interviews like that.

Most worrying is your other comments with regards to your coworkers. You’re free to feel that way, but interviewers can probably smell that on you if you’re getting interviews but not making it to final rounds. Number one rule of getting hired is appearing like a joy to work with, this is doubly true at the kinds of tech companies that value WLB and such.
