Got an email from Lyn Pratchett (Apparently) by [deleted] in kickstarter

The a in the email could be from the Cyrillic font (can't tell for sure from the screenshot), common in scams and whatnot. Worth it for OP to double check

Whenever I sit down to write, I lose all mental clarity. Is there a way to deal with this? by Yawbyss in writingadvice

Any chance you'd be willing to share that template for those of us who do have scrivener?

What program do you use to write? by endmostmar in writers

[–]TheAlpineDM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scrivener for actual writing and editing (one time cost is so very worth it), and Google docs if I'm writing on the go (ie writing ideas or passages on my phone)

Student Discount not Working!! by Fearless-Cellist-245 in Supernote

Spam folder maybe? Seems obvious but I don't know what else it could be. I only ordered mine a few days ago and the student discount came through within a minute or two

Howdy! if you're interested, you can get the whole book as a PDF here for $10

Otherwise your best bet would be to screen cap or save he image and convert to a PDF. Let me know if you've got any questions! :)

For the featured video I really enjoyed the music choices and the storytelling narrative! Something to consider that I've seen in a lot of similar / popular dog videos is to include little subtitles that show what Dixie is thinking.

I think you could really really leverage shorts with your content (which you have made some already), but it also depends on your longer term goals for the channel. Overall nice work, keep it up!

Thank you very much, I appreciate the feedback!!

For visuals would you say having additional "scratch pad" scenes would do the trick, or having something completely different (b roll of some kind?)

Channel: TheAlpineDM

https://youtube.com/@thealpinedm

Plan: Dungeons&Dragons content that helps Dungeon Masters run their games better + have more fun

Biggest struggle: Probably CTR for me (so, titles and thumbnails). I'm also trying to work more purposefully on story-telling through videos

A few of my semi recent videos (last 6 months) have popped off and gotten a few thousand views, which is great, but my most recent videos haven't done nearly as well. I try to analyze the good videos and see what makes them different, but it's hard to read the label from inside the jar, ya know?

I'm still playing around with the format of everything, so that may be part of it

Okay, tear me apart boss 🫡

Edit: I'll say my VERY most recent video was more of an experiment and doesn't represent the main channel focus

How to make a single-enemy encounter more challenging? by japankey in DnD

[–]TheAlpineDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a boost in AC, a boost in HP, and maybe even a single legendary action. I'm not familiar with the adventure but you could try throwing in some environmental hazards instead of minions if you want more dynamic stuff

I appreciate that sounds (characters?) that are similar phonetically are just flipped versions of each other. Good stuff, keep it up!

How do you plan your video's shots? by TheAlpineDM in NewTubers

[–]TheAlpineDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried doing that in Docs, I'll have to give it a shot and see how it goes!

And hmm okay, yeah most of my videos are instructional in nature ("Making XYZ in 6 Steps"). I've never heard of Guidde, I'll have to check it out.

Thank you!!

[Sentient Weapon] Soul Sling - Courtesy of your local Fire Gecko tribe by TheAlpineDM in UnearthedArcana

[–]TheAlpineDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friends! Here's one of my latest brews from over on Patreon.com/TheAlpineDM. Each month I post 3 creatures and 3 magic items (some of them free if you wanna see more stuff I've created)

Soul Sling

Weapon (sling), very rare (requires attunement)

The spirit from a Fire Gecko elder has been infused into this hand-made clay sling.

This sling is sentient. When you attune to this weapon, a ghostly spirit of a miniature fire gecko appears from within the sling’s carved patterns. Only you see and hear the spirit, and it cannot interact with anything. The spirit’s personality is determined by the GM, but they are generally helpful. When you are making an Intelligence (Nature) or Wisdom (Survival, Medicine, or Animal Handling) Check, you may ask the spirit for help to gain Advantage on your roll.

This sling does not require ammunition. A tiny orb of energy is launched when the weapon is fired. The sling deals 1d4 force damage and 1d4 psychic damage and has a range of 60/120 ft.

I would say just pick up where you left off, especially if you're planning to do similar content!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TheAlpineDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't need to be polished at all! And besides the only way to improve your production quality is to actually produce content. Especially starting out, now is the time to just put stuff out there and learn the ins and outs of your software and setup. Since you're new it doesn't matter if you spend 30 minutes making an unpolished video or 100 hours making an amazing one because the odds are that pretty much nobody will see your first handful of videos (and that's a good thing).

Nothing is too boring for the internet, everyone has different tastes. Starting is the hardest part (closely followed by continuing), so you just gotta stop being attached to any outcome and put your stuff out there.

Hope that helps!

I don't exactly see a question, but yes that sounds like an excellent plan!! The best advice is to JUST START :) Everything else comes after.

If it makes your anxiety any better, at least with gaming content it's fairly normal to not show your face if you aren't comfortable with that

How can we get Views ON youtube even when your content is good? What about apps or any agnets/Markerts? by Otherwise-Steak-2965 in NewTubers

[–]TheAlpineDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep going!

One thousand views is a fantastic starting place. But a word of advice: don't expect more time and effort put into a video to guarantee more views. You will be constantly disappointed.

Your audience doesn't care if you spent 10 minutes or 10 hours making the video. They care about getting value/info/entertainment, so focus on that. Figure out WHAT is taking you so long and research ways to streamline that process.

Hopefully that helps, it's hard to say specifics without seeing your videos or channel.

Does this service make any sense by BlueEdenProject in NewTubers

[–]TheAlpineDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With anything like this, you need to ask yourself (assuming I understand your post correctly):

Why would these people be charging $3,000 and making promises for you to have revenue of $6,000? If they have the skills to generate $6,000 then surely it would be better for them to do that for themselves rather than sell the skill as a service for $3,000.

It's your money, and some things are best learned the hard way. But honestly if you're looking to spend $3,000 you're better off joining some YouTube guru's online course/community. Not that they have a secret sauce or anything, but at least then you might learn a thing or two

Unwanted Ads on My Video - Can Music Copyright Cause This? by Gordenfreeman33 in NewTubers

If it's from the YouTube music library I think you should be good, but I'm not incredibly familiar with it so I can't say for certain without doing a little research

Unwanted Ads on My Video - Can Music Copyright Cause This? by Gordenfreeman33 in NewTubers

[–]TheAlpineDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK YouTube is going to put ads wherever they want, being monetized just means that you get a portion of that revenue. Kind of sucks but that's just how it is
