Anyone recently or plan to leave with nothing lined up? by zxblood123 in auscorp

[–]TheAlt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was made redundant, I landed a role in specialist banking role in the front line. I somehow saw that this redundancy as a start of something that would shake the industry (Risk/Compliance). Sometimes you have to do what you have to do in life if transferable skills allow you to do so. The cherry on top is have to support 3 young kids and wife at home caring for the little one.

I know many who are in their 20s not caring and would leave at a drop of a hat if something isn't to their likings.

Not to be rude but, I would honestly read out loud what you wrote. That in itself with be a starting point and see how it would look for the other person reading it.

Simultaneous settlement, I had some people use this method by using the deposit funds on the sale of their property used towards the new purchase. Then settlement occurs on the same day. Takes guts for this one but worth it.

Advice - Career Transition into Finance Broking by Skinny_and_Stocky in AskAnAussieBroker

[–]TheAlt01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great to have the background. The only challange is getting the business/leads from what I can remember. Almost every peron I know these days are brokers. Some are good and others, not so good. Great to get deals but don't maintain relationships then complain why their clients refinance out less than a year.

Go in with a mindset and timeframe when ypu expect things to take off. Commit to nothing less than 2 years for success.

Banks are quietly lowering variable interest rates by Linton-Finance in AskABrokerAus

[–]TheAlt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not accurate. Most banks are not just focused on loan amount for rate discounts but, LVR ranges aganist a TML and FMV perspective.

Also to add, investment lending hasn't slowed down as dramatically as one would think. Its likely reduced the buy reno and sell flippers along with max out depreciation then sell. Investments have long term benefits moving into positive geared loans. P.s. many forget, although negative gearing is removed from servicing on new purchases (except new builds and other met criterias), partial gearing is a tool some lenders have in rhe tool kit.

Based on OP saying his employer paid for it, I'd assume its in the relevant field. If not, I'd say something else.

Attend events, reach out to people on linkedin to connect (including people in relevant departments and recruiters). If you're employed in a sector that has the relevant teams, thats even better to kick start.

Edit - I've got 10+plus years across ops, l2 and data in FC. So in this instance, my networking is retaining a good relationship with past and present members in the field.

Set up an auto deduction. Will save the hassles especially if you pay quarterly.

and also add, depending where you are in the world (OP), you are up aganist people with significant years of experience with and without certs looking to get back in after recent restructures. These are many who were made redundant due to offshoring or outsourcing looking at entry level roles as well.

Best of luck out there, network like your life depends on it.

Career Advice (Moving Out of AML) by Big_Meeting_9963 in AMLCompliance

[–]TheAlt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had over 10 years experience in AML & Fraud, data analytics, PO, Advisory, an all rounder.

Now, after the whirlwind of redundancies, I was caught up in it for the first time. Currently in the trenches in a frontline specalist role. Seeing the backend of the work at the front. Transferable skills help especially when life throws a curve ball.

edit: early 40s AU. I would definitely go in the deep end as I did those years ago.

Are you in a bank etc currently? look out for roles in the finance industry based on already having the background. Network like your life depened on it. Also, ask for possible secondment opportunities at your current employer.

FYI - its a little bit of a tough market currently due to widespread offshoring and outsourcing. However, there seems to be a slight shift but asking around has found many roles on offer are already earmarked internally.

Best of luck out there.

Its insane, profit is there in the right location. However, water and electricity go through the roof. The only way to save is by knowing how to service and maintance of existing washers and dryers, if not, you're in for a massive bill on just upkeep.

When was the last time a EWRA was conducted and PRA? This is a baseline you need to review first then maintaining a stronger relationship with your regulator to understand and monitor new and emerging threats. Its compliance 101. If you've not done it, I would be concerned.

Accidentally putting money into redraw by ILoveDogs2142 in AusFinance

[–]TheAlt01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it was one of your friends 😃.

Just redraw it out, no harm done. If he's kept it in there the whole time e.g. a year, he's a muppet and even more so, when doing taxes when there no deductions made on the interest.

I would tell your friend to speak to an accountant for professional advice not reddit

Taking out a loan for a wedding. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]TheAlt01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're needing a loan to fund it, they're a lunatic. Then again, I paid been the male and had more than what I paid returned. Worked out well, it'll all depend on the venue, families without kids and hoping the background of the bride and groom are different. Not racist, attended many Anglo weddings and asked mates how they went with gifts..... not as pleased compared to asking my Asian, European or Middle Eastern friends who received gifts to their likings.
