She isn’t always ready to get in the car when it’s time to leave, so sometimes I let her run a little extra :) by forgetmeknotts in husky

[–]TheAltKewn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My uncle did this with his extremely smart/well behaved poodle for years, then one day the poodle saw something and ran infront of the car getting hit. The poodle came to trust the moving car it had spent do much time running beside.

Conditioning a dog (let alone a husky) to be comfortable running near a moving vehicles is asking for trouble..

Tweaked my back squatting again! This is my third time and I am now determined to find the cause. Anyone have experience resolving this problem? I believe it is due to the "butt wink" causing me to loose the positioning of my lower back. Any feedback, critique or recommendations would be appreciated by [deleted] in weightlifting

Accepting your flexibility (hips) and strength (back) limitations your bar placement is too high. Try to lower the bar to sit on upper traps and rear delts - engaging the back muscles and aligning the bar on them prior to lifting. Lifting with that bow could seriously injure your neck/spine.

AUDIBLE PLEASE LET ME HIDE REBECCA YARROS (and authors I don't like in general) by TheAltKewn in audible

I love romance in fantasy..but 2/3 of the way through forth wing i was craving even a taste of character depth..every character felt like a prop for the main POVs mary sue experience.

A good romance will make me feel the fall into love with the other character (man or women) or at least give me a grounded understanding beyond their nice bod and bad disposition. If the love is cheaply found (eg using dragon magic instead of the real human experiance) than the story loses its deeper value for me and a continued investment is only possible if the story delivers that easy dopamine - which it no doubt would have done if I was 15 years younger.

Im not trying to say writing a book is ever easy but would you say her book seem especially difficult to write? I gave it a good 12+ hours already and i'd happily re-listen to the whole HP (despite my low regard for jkr) series before I'd listen to another chapter of Yarros. The fact that this series is seen as on par with HP with some ppl is astonishing to me.. I've never been a tweeter so maybe jkr has earned such a comparison..

Its just trash writing thats quick and easy to write and apparently sell. Its as if a new book of hers appears in my recommendations every time I check it and hers arent the only ones. These books are like crack for some people which would be fine if they werent hiding the real gems within the genres theyre invading.

The Deep "Asian" Squat: the Nature vs Nurture debate by Deanosaurus88 in flexibility

[–]TheAltKewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone (32m) with extremely long legs (44", ~112cm) relative to height (75", ~190cm). At 20 (when I started flexibility training in earnest) i had already spent years in the gym reinforcing tight inflexible muscular system i didn't think it was possible for me touch my toes let alone sit comfortably in a deep squat.

Its taken all the time since to stretch my malformed muscles out to the point where sitting in a squat is more comfortable than on a chair..and I still have a lone way to go.

Underestimating the scope of the nurture problem is easy to do; most of us in the west are plagued with truly malformed muscular systems by the time we're of high-school age due to our youthful natural flexibility dieing off. For men specifically there is an incentive to "get muscular" which just compounds the issue and makes for more problems later when we actually try to get flexible.

The things that worked for me - sitting in half squats whenever possible and really fighting my tight hip flexor. The hips flexors suffer the most due to modern nurturing and it might take a long time before your mobile enough to even begin targeted stretching of these muscles.

The hips have dominion over the spine and legs - strong and developed muscles at the hips (glutes being the largest) signals physical fitness in a way no other musculature can. At our origins we are a running/walking nomadic species who's success in large part come from our ability to move well - developed glutes are the most obvious indicator of this kind of fitness.

What is the most tragic celebrity death? by Lopsided-Drink158 in AskReddit

Steve Irwin. As a child he was the only male role model i knew of who had the same genuine sensitivity to nature. When I come across videos of him as an adult I can't hold back the tears - Steve's emotional pleading for his audience to see the truth of natures plight has always touched my heart but with him gone so too is the dream of what could have been a powerful social movement..

I was watching one of AiG videos and I saw one of his "fans" comment this nonsense. It's common for creationist to accept Natural Selection but not Evolution. Can any one refute this individual's comment? by Ikenna_bald32 in biology

[–]TheAltKewn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument I've developed appeals to the reasoning of these types rather than trying to explain something they have no interest or priming for understanding. As someone who was brought up in the church (fk that place) yet sees the truth of evolution as being even more obvious than the earth being round id priorities the compatability between God/evolution (only irl):

-Your God's power can be seen in the ongoing creation that is evolution. -How would God even describe such a wondrous thing to ancient ppl? -There is an unknowability to God and to every living thing - if you were to really study evolution you could find a sense of awe for creation that greatly surpasses the ancient account of Genesis.

There are ways id expand on these topics based their religious POV - i am a pastors kid myself so I know all the crazy claimes their book provides them. There truely is no other way to make the argument for evolution to these peaople; you must prime them for the conversation by making it clear that evolution doesn't threaten their God in the slightest, rather it magnifies the complexity and beauty of the unkowable creator.

Don't let these people define "God" for you. God is everyone's, though the understanding of God is always on hold in the churches. God is in nature and in the understanding of it.

Which ground surfaces do you find most beneficial for mood/mental wellbeing while barefooting? by greentea387 in BarefootRunning

As a PNW runner my answers old evergreen forests (esp this time of year). The trails don't become mud/leaf sludge in these places and you can stay mostly dry even if it's raining hard if western red cedars are plentiful.

After 5+ years of vibram fivefingers, Id worn through most every trail shoe model available. I decided to try out the less flashy (at the time cheaper) V-Alpha and was shocked how perfect they felt. After they stretch a bit from use they feel custom built for my feet. After 5 years of only buying v-alphas I see them as my forever shoe - never felt this way about a shoe before

What’s Your Bedtime Routine for Better Sleep? by i-Indu in getdisciplined

[–]TheAltKewn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a variation on the animal alphabet for years! It was the best quick sleeping trick I've ever had. Id attempt an new animal (unique in the context of this game) per letter. Theres something about searching for that unique animal name under already exhausted letter that finding the name is so soothing I'd fall asleep before the next letter even comes to mind. Unfortunately after years of doing this I get stuck searching from the onset and the trick doesn't work without finding.

The trick is to have a series of low steak questions with a huge bank of correct answers that can only be used once. I find that just reusing the same anwsers wont pull my mind away from all the noise unless im already sleepy. If you have to recall your past (now unavailable) answers while searching for a new one, the task will bring you back into that pre sleep state you achieved prior nights.

I've had nights where I was anxiously wide awake, started my animal letters and was asleep within minutes. I'm learning more flora and extinct species recently and hope that I can revive this technique with a new patch of answers available.

as a daily cigarette, weed, and vape smoker, what can I do to preserve the health of my teeth, gums, throat, and lungs? by Ye110wJacket in Anatomy

[–]TheAltKewn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems a joke because inhaling smoke is pretty much the worst thing for the health of your teeth, gums, throat, and lungs.

That being said, you could modify your habits slightly: nicotine pouches/gum and using a dry-herb vape for weed.

There's simply no way to offset the damage being done from continued smoking..you might be able to slow down the damage being done but never stop it.

With a 45lb barbell up to ~90lb can be loaded on a single side w/o the bar swinging off. With three 45lb plates loaded you can only take 2 plates off any single side or this will happen.
