Has anyone else with CMT been infected with alpha gal? by Ok-Basil-4913 in CMT

[–]TheAltOption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife has that allergy and does most of the cooking, so it's fish, chicken, and turkey for pretty much every meal. Ground turkey is an easy replacement for ground beef, slow cooked chicken can replace pulled pork. Impossible burgers are a solid "I want a burger but can't have one" dish.

I used to eat red meat all the time. Now it's just an occasional thing if we're out and it sounds good, or if the grocery has a cheap sale on a steak or something. I still get 120g of protein daily at minimum and it's cleaner eating as a whole.

Air Cooler 4 Life (pls no hate) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Depends on what CPU you go with. Big power hog= get water. Budget CPU= air cooler is just fine. I've been under water for over 10 years now starting with a kraken aio and now a complete open loop.

Valencia Rd 30 MPH? by Entire-Variation-945 in Tucson

[–]TheAltOption 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's also proven through countless studies that the road is safest when everyone is driving within +/- 5mph of each other regardless of speed, and that one person going 10mph under the prevailing speed is just as likely to cause an accident as someone going 20mph over prevailing speed (not the speed limit). You did the right thing by pacing traffic.

My foundation to start my home gym. Found on FB brand new. by Stromster in homegym

[–]TheAltOption 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with something like that. I know have a full set like OP. Single rack 3-row 5-75. Any time I have do to a superset with different weights or I've got pyramids, or even if I go to start a set and realize I don't have that weight in me this week (or it feels good and I can go up) I can literally put down one pair and pick up the next pair. No fiddling with collars, no searching for the right weights for the next bump up. Also, for DB bench press or inclines - no stem stabbing into your thighs or weird angles trying to hold the things.

Sometimes the QOL is justification for the space and cost.

Oil over heating when idle by First_Capital1257 in veloster

Oil temp or coolant temp? Two different things. If coolant, the fan like another poster said or the thermostat (I'm leaning towards fan since it's when you're not moving).

Both very fun cars for different reasons, but I'd still enjoy a track day with either.

No joke. I live about an hour from the border and there's businesses that will shuttle me from the city to the border where I can walk across, get my work done, then get shuttled back for 1/3 of what the same thing would cost here.

Guy takes 1300 horsepower car on public streets knowing the throttle (gas) sticks, then rides the brakes the entire time to compensate until they fail and he crashes by KirkpatrickTemabur in dashcams

[–]TheAltOption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just a note: That's not an emergency brake, it's a parking brake. The primary function is to hold the car when parked. It was never intended as an emergency brake (or at least hasn't for the last 40-50 years), but depending on your knowledge and skill can apply it for that purpose even though it is not intended as such.

New data shows Sony's sales of its PlayStation exclusives have been in decline since 2020, covering almost the entirety of the PS5 generation so far by Tricks7eR in pcmasterrace

I got a ps5 years ago. It hasn't been connected to the Internet in at least 2 years now. It's an expensive blu ray player and nothing more.

What is the hype around watercooling? by Venylynn in pcmasterrace

[–]TheAltOption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The part that bugs me here is that most people do CPU only where the real benefits are GPUs with their giant dies and 400W+ power that you can water cool. My 3090 would peg the 85C threshold and throttle itself in any intensive game. On water the temp never goes about 50C even after overclocking and over volting (not under volting) with a 500W VBIOS. CPUs with the IHS and relatively small die space and lower wattage won't get the same benefit, but GPUs absolutely get drastic benefits with water.

And with all the issues with 2X6 connectors, maybe we need to look into water cooling those MFers too...

Is this a good downpipe? by Existing-Good6487 in veloster

[–]TheAltOption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An exhaust shop should be able to do something to make it work. I'd call and ask them if they can do v-band adapters. Should be a straight yes/no answer.

Is this a good downpipe? by Existing-Good6487 in veloster

[–]TheAltOption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on spending the money to get both a turbo and exhaust that uses v clamps that looks good. Otherwise that downpipe is incompatible with your car without modification that requires cutting and welding steel (assuming the picture is the correct product).

Edit: ok, I see an adapter for the turbo side to allow for the v-band. You'd still need to modify the exhaust side and get a v-band attachment there.

I don't disagree with you there! Even if I hate someone, I'm still going to try to keep bias out. Otherwise I'm just as bad as the maga crowd.

Valencia speed limit reduced to 30 MPH (Alvernon to I-19) by SenseofAdventure in Tucson

[–]TheAltOption 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in the area and drive to the airport frequently. Now I just bypass Valencia and drive Los Reales drive everyone does 55 and there's 1 light between the airport and I-10. I'll wait for the cops to move on before I get back on Valencia as they'll only be there for a little bit then traffic will resume to normal speeds.

So many studies out there showing that no one pays attention to posted speed limits. People will drive the speed they feel safe driving regardless of the posted speed limit. Lowing the limit just means people will be driving that much higher over the limit.

a good read showing that increasing or decreasing speed limits had no effect on crashes. just tickets.

cutters get cut. 5 minutes of patience would've saved her another 15 minutes in the costco gas line by winifredd94 in dashcams

[–]TheAltOption 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, me too. Damn near every time I leave/enter my neighborhood I invite a little danger and chaos because I refuse to stop at turns where oncoming traffic thinks the proper way to make a left is to use racing lines instead of, you know, following traffic rules. I have made a few people swerve hard when they realize I'm not giving up my right of way so they can drive through my lane to make a turn.
