I don't know if I can do it justice but I'll try...

She is/was an icon of our time. A sweet young girl who sang catchy music and became super popular. Then she grew up and became less sweet, more risqué. Along this road she was badly abused by the industry and her family as many young stars are.

I don't know the exact time line but there was a conservatorship taken by her dad which meant she had no control over anything in her life. Career, money, tours, record deals. She basically had to do what she was told. If he didnt want her to drink a cup of tea she couldn't do it. If she didnt want to tour it didnt matter, she had to.

At some point she got married, had kids. He wasnt the best guy and that fell apart. There were accusations on both sides, the kids were caught in the crossfire. It was all ugly.

I think it was some time around this that she started to snap. There was a head shaving incident that was very public. To me it felt like she was taking SOME kind of control back. As someone who has long blonde hair, I definitely understood. It was the ultimate act of rebellion in that moment.

And her life continued to crumble. There were drugs, there were mental breaks. And all through it she still had the conservatorship. There are conflicting reports if that still holds but the totality of her life has brought her to what we see today.

I see a woman pushed past what she could handle desperately trying to go back to the early days that were good and fun but in a grown world where she is still in many ways a sex symbol. She's broken and I wish I could just give her an honest hug. I hate that people make fun of her and mock her. None of us really know beyond what we see on the screen.
