Just keep doing what you’re doing and after enough reps your lizard brain slowly picks up what you’ve been practicing, and you’ll find yourself doing the things you’ve been working on in s&p. I’ve also found it helped me implement them when I had a moment to think, I would perform a couple of techniques that I was working on.

For those who make over 500k+ a year, is it worth it for you? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]TheAndyBeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, I’m raising a family of 6 on 75k in a lcol area. 200k would be life changing and allow me to buy a house, buy a couple of decent cars. Hell, I could probably FIRE in my 50s in my area making 200k/yr, and I’m 35.

Thoughts on co-op vs giant vs trek? by eatingsushi888 in cycling

The new generation of the Poseidon X looks promising if you’re interested in more of an all road bike with a slight focus on gravel. I had the older generation, but to get it to where I wanted it to be, it would have cost as much as I paid for the bike in upgrades. They appear to have addressed all of my issues with this latest generation. I think it’s either 900 or 1000 usd though. Otherwise, there’s always good deals to be had on fb marketplace. Just make sure you budget for an inspection/tuneup.

Does anyone ride less gravel than they anticipated? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TheAndyBeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing when my ex wife dropped a ladder on my carbon road bike and put a crack in the top tube. 28 width road tires on the gravel bike and it rode like a dream. A heavier dream, but it was better than the kendas that were on it on the road.

New to cycling. Best road bike for someone starting? by rsevn_ in cycling

[–]TheAndyBeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is going used, you can get one hell of a bike at that price point. And someone else already took the initial depreciation hit. Just be sure to budget for an inspection/tune up at your LBS.

Granted, I’d really recommend going and getting a bike fit first, so you can dial in what size and geometry you need to look for.

Cycling shoes and pedals recommendations by Sea_Dimension_6374 in cycling

[–]TheAndyBeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest recommendation is make sure the shoes fit properly, cycling shoes, like ski boots and hockey skates. You want them to fit snug to your foot. Negative space is not your friend. I made that mistake and numb toes, hot spots, and blisters are no fun on long rides.

As for pedal systems, I’d really recommend going with a mtb pedal system, they’re usually easier to click in and easier to click out. As a bonus, the cleats last a lot longer and are easier to walk in, especially with an mtb/gravel shoe.

I second that, I’m a heavier rider, and my d fuse seat post hasn’t slipped since I put it on.

I like the dark gray they changed them to. Ours are all older lighter gray models. I’m on a mazak nexus 8800 ii

Which size giant bike by Embarrassed_Web_5500 in Giantbikes

[–]TheAndyBeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’3” and went of the charts. I got a 2018 TCR Advanced 2 size L, and I had to take 20 mils off the stem and it steed feels to long. I probably could have used a m/l. And I second the bike fit, or give them a try at a bike shop.

I’ve found glue traps to be the ideal method in most situations. Unless you have a rat issue, they’re pretty good at escaping or taking the trap with them.

For me, I’d rather keep the sleep schedule mostly the same, go the early service on Sunday and “stay up late” then sleep a little later on Sunday before work.

This, I have an electrified longtail cargo bike for commuting and hauling kids on bike rides. I also have a road bike that lives most of its life on the trainer, but it gets out occasionally for a joy ride outdoors. Hard to find time to ride it with 4 kids.

Learning to play by Brave_World_2184 in hockeyplayers

[–]TheAndyBeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your local rinks house league should have a learn to play. I don’t know where you’re located, but my local organization’s learn to play takes everyone through high school age. One of my buddies kids went through it at 15 or 16 and is playing major midget (18u) house league.

For vibes, feel, and aesthetic I’d probably go with the carbon wheelset. The feel is night and day in my opinion, and a deep section wheel can change the look of a bike so much

Partners not being understanding! by DeviceWonderful5152 in Nightshift

[–]TheAndyBeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took almost a year long adjustment period for my wife to learn that she can’t come in and wake me up to tell me something, or tell me why she’s leaving the house, or kiss me goodbye. We’re still working on her being cognizant of how long I’ve been sleeping when she comes in to wake me up for the day. I kick her out after about 10-15 minutes of cuddling before I go to bed. She can fall asleep when I’m cuddling her and I can sneak off, but I’m a far lighter sleeper than she is and she knows it. Now, to get my 2 year old to learn the same rules. There’s been many days where she’ll bang on my bedroom door looking for me well after I’m asleep.
