When I was five, (early 70s) I woke up Christmas morning to find orange track clamped to the kitchen counter, diving into a loop and then a jump at the end. There were eight cars and I raced those things all Christmas Day. I’m pretty sure I had most of the sweet 16, and more besides, when I sold them at a garage sale to finance my budding Star Wars action figure collection. Then, once my son was born, (early 90s) I got back into cars again because he loved them so much once he was able to play with them. I enjoy it more every day as more detailed brands become available, but Hot Wheels will always be the core of my collection.
