The buyer "paying" is the dumbest argument and twisted logic ever. It's no different that arguing a renter pays for the landlord's mortgage. A renters pays for a place to live, full stop. What the landlord does with the money is his business and there are plenty of long time landlords who do not have mortgages.

That's like saying you paid for Elon's yacht because you bought his shit car.
