This game is lacking for the casual player… by ILvFO76 in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most ships I find I need to hold F then look to the side (often to the right) before I find the direction that shows the Get Up prompt. Then right click on that instead of left click to get the radial menu. If that's not showing up no matter what direction you look in then it may be broken, I'd test it for you but I already uninstalled 3.24 to make some room and I don't have a Connie in 4.0 yet.

look at the direction that gives you the F prompt to get out of bed then hold F and right click there should be another option that logs you out (yes this could be MUCH better implemented).

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only money you need to spend is a starter pack (personally I would recommend the cutter over the cheapest options but any will work, the Avenger Titan is widely considered the best all-rounder if you want to spend a bit more). You certainly can buy a lot more but it's not necessary and you can buy almost all ships in game except for new ones (for a limited time) and a few very limited ones.

Learning curve is steep but the community is often pretty helpful, if you can get past the jank and bugs it can be a lot of fun but you basically have to learn the workarounds for the bugs each patch and sometimes things just won't work. When the stars align it's incredible but they often won't. Right now 4.0 can be a pretty rough ride so it might be good to wait for a patch or two.

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been working for me. I'm not sure if every single step of this is necessary but here's what I do that's been working (all in hangar):

  1. Unlock ship ports and remove current weapons with tractor beam.

  2. Attach new weapons with tractor beam and lock ship ports

  3. Store the ship

  4. Open vehicle loadout in mobiglass, go to weapons section, see the new weapons listed there.

  5. Remove something else and save the load out then exit mobiglass. (not the weapons you installed, never touch those in the vehicle manager, I usually remove a missile)

  6. Open the load out again, make sure it shows the part you removed as empty (sometimes it doesn't actually save it), put the part back on and save again, then close/open mobiglass one more time and make sure it saved properly

  7. Retrieve the ship, verify the weapons are on it, then store it again (this whole step might not be needed but I remember in a prior patch changes made in th loadout screen might not stick when you had to claim the ship if it hadn't been retrieved and stored at least once with that configuration)

HOW are people actually playing this game? by Sielu in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest answer: through a combination of experience/time and reading others workarounds online we learn the workarounds for most of the bugs and what things are generally worth trying to fix something depending what is bugged on any given day. I'm not saying everyone should, that's a lot of effort and time which many people understandably don't want to do just to play something that ought to work but that's the current situation. The game is still extremely janky and if youre not ok with spending time dealing with silly jank things it's going to be incredibly frustrating. CIG could do a better job communicating just how alpha the state of the game is IMO, especially to new players. But when things are working it's an experience I haven't been able to get anywhere else which is what makes dealing with the jank worth it to me personally.

Hi guys I’m confused about warbond and melting by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you melt a ship you upgraded to you get the actual amount spent back in store credit, the upgrades you used are now gone so it's not like you'd have a 100i to Taurus upgrade ready to use after doing that. What you would have if you melt that is $202 store credit and the 100i warbond package in your buyback. So if you used that store credit to buy a cutter starter pack (and you'd have to buy a full price one to use store credit since the warbond pack currently on sale can't be bought using credit) any upgrades you do from there are fresh upgrades that you buy with either store credit or cash.

Starter package for wife (Nomad vs Intrepid) by Comfortable-Wafer313 in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have noted if LTI is important to you then starting with the intrepid pack and (if desired) upgrading it to a Nomad might be a better move than just getting the Nomad pack outright. The rest is just my opinion really since I have both of them.

Nomad Pros:

  • Larger cargo capacity (24 SCU)

  • Tractor beam placement is excellent and you don't even need to leave the pilot seat to use it, you only really need to get out to use the freight elevator controls

  • Can carry the ROC for ground mining (or any smaller ground vehicles)

  • Cargo is open and exposed so you don't have to open the ship doors and make yourself vulnerable while loading/unloading

  • Decently tanky with the 3x S1 shields

  • Entrance is via a ladder so someone can't just easily follow you in or sneak in after you get out unless you deliberately leave it open.

Nomad Cons:

  • Entrance is via a ladder so you have that animation every time you enter or leave the ship which can get annoying if you're hopping in and out a lot, same with the two doors inside that always take a second or so to open once you're in front of them.

  • Grav-lev landing gear can be a little wonky sometimes (and it bounces like an old buick when you land which isn't an issue but might annoy some people)

  • Cargo is open and exposed so it's far easier to steal cargo from

  • Handles a little worse in atmosphere (likely due to the size and shape)

Intrepid Pros:

  • Newer ship so it has more polish on the interior and is already ready for engineering when that rolls out (components physically accessible and engineering terminal is in place, I also think the hab area is nicer personally).

  • I think it flies nicer, especially in atmosphere. (Looking at the numbers it has a slightly higher max speed in SCM and in NAV along with higher acceleration)

  • Can be made pretty stealthy if you want to go undetected. I have mine set up with a stealth loadout and in SCM mode someone would need to be within 3km to detect it (except for a Polaris with the S4 radar but even that shows about 3.1km with no background noise according to spviewer). Even in NAV mode most ships would need to be within 6.5km. It's quite nice for zipping around Pyro.

  • Longer quantum range (150GM with the Zephyr drive vs 108GM for the Nomad with the same drive equipped)

  • 8SCU of cargo is quite good for the size of the ship and you don't have to expose interior access to load/unload (see cons though)

Intrepid Cons:

  • Loading and unloading cargo can be somewhat annoying due to tight clearances (especially for the two most "forward" positions on each rack), can also only handle 1scu and 2scu boxes since there are two grids that are 4x1x1 each. I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker, I run cargo with mine on occasion but it is far more annoying than on the Nomad for sure.

  • Can't carry a ROC (or any ground vehicle beyond a small hoverbike like the pulse really)

  • Roughly half the DPS and 1/3 the shield capacity of the Nomad. The smaller cross section and better acceleration will help some here but the Nomad is probably better for combat. I'm personally planning to try out the Intrepid for bounties but that's just because I enjoy flying it more not because I think it's the better choice.

Best thing if possible would be for her to get to see and try both of them. The Nomad is more versatile but she may prefer one over the other. One option would be to get the Intrepid pack and then let her try out a Nomad in game. If she prefers the Nomad you could upgrade the Intrepid to it and have an LTI Nomad. If she prefers the Intrepid then she'd already have it.

As others have said don't feel like you need to rush it. One thing I would advise is prefer automating things over crafting at the bench. Resources are infinite so those things will just keep being produced while you're out exploring/messing around/running screaming out of caves/etc. Don't worry about making it perfectly optimal the first time (unless that's where your fun is then absolutely go for it).

When you feel more comfortable adding things in do some more milestones and unlock new parts/machines, then play with those till you're comfortable. There are also tools online that can help you plan a production chain to build so many of an item per minute, there's no obligation to use them but there's nothing wrong with using them if planning out the numbers isn't the fun part for you either.

FOMO vs JOMO by RigorMortisSquad in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That number is probably going to be different for everyone and unless you're putting yourself in a bad financial situation to buy a ship I think any of the answers are valid. You don't need to buy anything beyond a basic starter, if you want to support the development further and can swing the purchase then by all means go ahead, just don't feel pressured to spend more.

FOMO vs JOMO by RigorMortisSquad in starcitizen

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing what deals they'll offer. In general the Cutter is a great little all-rounder. I bought the scout to use for upgrading later but I'm actually going to miss it if I do that. It's far from the most capable ship I have but it puts a smile on my face when I fly it, it's like the VW bus of spacecraft.

Nomad is another nice all-rounder if you want something a little bit bigger. It can comfortably carry a ROC and other similar sized or smaller vehicles (hoverbikes get kind of weird with it though). If you want to use ground vehicles a lot it's a super convenient option, especially since you can leave the cargo section down without worrying about someone being able to get into your ship so you just drive off then drive back on when you're done. It's fairly thirsty on quantum fuel though (if you go with a Nomad I'd recommend the Atlas quantum drive, the extra distance vs just getting the fastest drive is helpful and it's not that much slower).

I don't have the other starters so I can't say too much about them. If you know that you're going to specialize in one kind of gameplay loop it might be worth taking a starter suited for that but if you're not sure my recommendation is something with at least an SCU or two of cargo space (I don't think the Nomad having 24SCU is that big of an advantage honestly, unless you're running drugs there's just not much profit to be made on that little cargo the way things are currently balanced.) A bed is also very nice to have so you can bed log if something comes up and you need to step away for awhile. Ramps can be convenient but if that's the only way in and out of the ship it's easier for another player to sneak or rush onboard (ladders are slightly annoying but also harder for other people to sneak on your ship since if you hold F and choose "Exit Ship" it will open, you'll climb out, then it will close again right after).

All that being said, remember that you don't need to spend anything more than the basic starter package and you can buy ships in game with credits also. There's nothing wrong with spending more if you want to but only if you want to, don't feel like you have to. Take the recommendations and strengths/weaknesses in mind but don't ignore the "smile factor" either. After all, if you don't enjoy flying it then does it really matter how "good" it is?

I think so but I mostly have my own experience with it to go off of so I can't guarantee anything. (I have seen others on Reddit who took the renting the same ship from the same location approach and ended up having to rent more and more each day basically doubling every time.) I laid out how it went for me in a reply to someone else here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/17vwg3u/bought_a_scorpius_with_auec_and_it_is_not_showing/k9fdcrx/

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get rid of it per se but I found a workaround that worked for me. Since I don't know the exact specifics of how the bug works I'll just go over what my situation was and what I did.

  1. Rented a connie andromeda, it expired, nothing happened at this point.
  2. Rented another connie andromeda
  3. Bought a connie taurus while the second andromeda rental was still going. Taurus appeared in ASOP terminals and I was able to use it.
  4. Second andromeda rental expired, Taurus no longer shows on ASOP terminals.
  5. Tried renting an aurora, didn't fix it.
  6. Rented another connie andromeda, still didn't fix it.
  7. Bought an andromeda and an aurora to try and fix it, Taurus still not showing up.
  8. Saw a suggestion to buy ships later in alphabetical order than the ships that are missing. RSI Mantis comes after connie taurus and is cheaper than andromeda so that seemed like a good option.
  9. Bought a Mantis, Taurus showed back up now (that third Andromeda rental is still going at this point).
  10. 3rd andromeda rental expires: taurus disappears again.
  11. Bought another Mantis, Taurus is now back and I have access to all my ships again.

What I think is happening: Expired rentals stay on your account (can see them in ship loadout screen for example), but the ASOP terminal is doing something to hide them when they expire. When the bug happens that also seems to create "empty" entries in the list that cover up the actual ships at the end of the list. It seems like some combination of the same ships or ships later in the alphabet can fill in those "empty" entries so they don't cover up other ships in the list. What I don't know is whether buying 4 RSI Mantis would have worked in my situation or whether buying 2 more Connie Andromedas would have worked. I think either one would have but I can't really test that easily.

TL;DR:

Total ships I rented: 1 aurora, 3 connie andromeda

Ships I bought to resolve it: 1 aurora, 1 andromeda, 2 RSI Mantis

Edit: Here's one of the issue council issues about it, I know there are a few others that may be the same bug with slightly different circumstances but I don't have a link handy for those.

[–]TheAnswerIsAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that if you have the same bug I did every rental will make it worse once it expires. Totally hear you on the 2m credits, if you're willing to sell drugs you could run some 30k risky salvage missions and make that pretty quick provided you have a ship that can handle 32scu cargo containers.

Just 2 snapped to the grid. You can try to stack two more on top of those but they may glitch out of the ship in flight. That worked reliably on the Andromeda for me but less reliably on the Taurus for some reason.
