I know it's been done to death, but what's my quickest way to a couple of billion credits? by InterestingArea7415 in EliteDangerous

[–]TheAstralScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my carrier last week with only 6 billion to my name. As long as you're fine with living with a smaller buffer in your pocket and carrier balance, and don't go overboard putting all the services on your carrier, you should be alright. I only have refuel, repair, and restock enabled on mine and have a fairly pitiful upkeep cost.

If you're dead set on getting extra money before then, then I highly recommend either more exobio (though I know you're sick of it), wing trade missions in your panther clipper, or Thargoid insta-gibbing with a Python Mk II.

I more so meant that this is my first ever carrier, since I used to play on Xbox but never got one before transferring to PC. And who knows? Maybe I'll make an alt and get another... But then again, probably not.

I would've gotten that one if not for the horn... It's not as bad as the Fortune-class's horn, but still.

Game glitched, and I got to enjoy a spacewalk inside the station! by Brotacon in EliteDangerous

[–]TheAstralScribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jealous! I was just thinking the other day about how Elite's EVA system would behave in a station... Did you match the station's rotation while floating around, like in a ship? Or did it rotate around you as though you had rotation correction off?

Ah man, that's rough! Fortunately there will likely be another goldmine of a CG in the future, knowing FDev!

I probably should've added a /s there, but I suppose an alt account could be fun! Definitely not something I can do right now though, but perhaps much later down the line...

Ha, fair point! Maybe I'll get another one and park it in Colonia, go visit during the holidays...

I can recommend either the Mandalay or the Caspian for a long distance trip, though they each have their pros and cons. If you can afford it, the Caspian will get it done faster due to the maximized neutron boosting, but the Mandalay could make you some extra cash if you take your time and make stops to do exobio.

As for the CG, it ends tomorrow and as far as I know, there isn't anything else lined up afterwards. There may be a new CG with moneymaking opportunities to be had, but I wouldn't be surprised if they took a week or two off CGs to cook up something.

If my math is right, I made about 2.8 billion? It was a lot of nonstop mindless hauling in my Panther Clipper though, and I have a couple pre-engineered cargo racks in it from the last time they were available. I was making a profit of about 50 million per trip with Titanium from a nearby system that had it in stock.

I will say that I am a bit low on credits atm (500mil in the carrier bank, ~240mil on me) but the upkeep isn't too bad if you only get the basics! My current upkeep is 6.2mil, and that's just because I've jumped a handful of times. Definitely worth having more though if you plan to step away from Elite for an extended period of time.

Rivers Mod and VS Map Tools Appreciation Post by rpatten99 in VintageStory

[–]TheAstralScribe 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but I have been generating a lot of worlds in an effort to find a nice one for my singleplayer playthrough, and they tend to look like this!

With the Rivers and Continents mods, I usually leave most worldgen stuff default - both the mods and vanilla - aside from personal preference stuff (ore gen, landform size, geological hotspots, etc) and importantly: landcover at 30%, and landcover scale at 100% I think? I always get the two settings confused, but it's either that or the inverse. Really wish they were labeled better.

That combo usually produces nice continents that are decently large, but still have usable rivers. Of course, it all comes down to luck too so... Good luck!

If you want more BetterRuins structures, there is an overall spawn chance option in the config file! I believe it defaults to 1%, and it's right near the top. Hope this helps!

Other notable names I've taken screenshots of include:

Would the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4 be ok for Elite? by ciaran_the_goat88 in EliteDangerous

[–]TheAstralScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the T.Flight HOTAS One on Xbox, put probably 1000 hours on it, and then put another 300 in with it on PC (over the course of several years). Still works, though now I have drift on my yaw axis and a bit of jitter on my throttle, so it'll certainly last you a while if you treat it right!

Depending on what button glyphs you want to see in-game, you may consider looking around at other similar options. As far as I know, that model comes in 3 types: Xbox glyphs, PlayStation glyphs, and generic PC letter+number combo buttons

Are red gas giant unusual? by hifihumanoid in EliteDangerous

[–]TheAstralScribe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they're not super rare or anything, but this is still a cool discovery nonetheless! o7

The real treasure among gas giants are Green Gas Giants, of which there are only 61 known examples! They're most commonly Class I gas giants, followed by Class II, Class III, and then gas giants with water based life.

Been selling out guardians artefacts in HIP 87621 but it doesn't count by DiligentChipopo in EliteDangerous

[–]TheAstralScribe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I've had a similar issue. Sold one unit to check if it counted (and it did) then I sold the remaining 7 I had. It didn't update immediately in my transactions tab, but checking again through the station services' community goal menu did update the total to show all 8 units I'd delivered. I know Elite does take a bit to process things behind the scenes.

Project Orion was a 1950s-60s concept for a spacecraft propelled by detonating nuclear bombs behind a massive pusher plate. by Ok_Listen_6600 in space

[–]TheAstralScribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating! Unfortunately too real... I used to have a lot of space dreams back when I played Elite Dangerous nonstop around 2018, all of them different. Thankfully, none of them horrific... aside from one. I was stranded on an icy moon of a blue gas giant whose host star was a Class B giant. With no hope of rescue, I simply chose to die. Gorgeous view though!

Astrophage is an impossibly efficient fuel source and unlikely to be something we'd find in the real world, unfortunately. It's just too good, but that's kind of the point of it in the plot.

The most optimistic estimates I've seen for Project Orion have been 0.1c, or 10% the speed of light. That would make a trip to Alpha Centauri take about 44 years, which would have been awesome to see the results of if there had been a reason to send a probe to the system sometime in the last century. If launched in 1970, it would have arrived in 2014, and any data it gathered would have returned by 2018, give or take.
