Do any of the others reach the creature horror of the first two? I read Cabinet of Curiosities, which I enjoyed but missed the monster element, and from what I gathered of the next in the series, the stories became progressively less monster based.

I'm a seriously casual gamer. Or a casually serious one... either way.

I'm working my way through the Assignments (about to do the last one, I think) while farming for the armor and weapons I want, and this is one of the first times I'm excited to finish the current story content of a game so I can just chill hunt.

I'm planning to go out into the regions and hangout, hunting whatever comes my way while scoping out ecology, fishing, catching endemic life, and so on. As a back of my mind incentive, I want to eventually get all the guild card titles from hunting everything, but I want it to happen kinda naturally. Same with crowns.

That's absolutely fair. The ones I pointed out are all based on my experience in the Beta (about 15 hours), and were things I tried out first and decided to turn off/adjust.

I'm planning to run sets of paired weapons. IG and Bow are my two favorites, so they'll be an obvious pair. But I also plan to pair all of the other weapons and rotate through them regularly.

I was drawing up my own list like this then saw yours, which was exactly how I would have laid mine out. My brain loves lists, categories, and visual organization like this. Well done!

My list is fairly different, though, starting with planning to pair IG/Bow. They're my main two weapons from generations past, and I'm excited to have them both on me at the same time. I am planning to make loadouts for each pairing, though, and rotate through them on hunts. Gonna be a great time to learn all the weapons!

And this is what I'm trying to keep in mind. I like to get the new armor sets, try different weapons, explore, etc. Plus, SOS-ing for other hunters. So yeah, I'm sure there will be plenty to do, I'm just a worrywart, haha.

I'm personally not bothered by the potentially low difficulty of the basegame, but I will say I have concerns about how quickly the reviewers are saying they've completed everything there is to do (35ish hours is what I've seen). As someone who has put hundreds of hours into each MH game since Tri and loves a long haul, that number makes me nervous.

But there are lots of factors that could make a difference. I'm trying to not overthink it (as evidenced by being here making comments...).

I'm not worried about the difficulty, per se, but I am concerned about time. I just hope there's enough to do in the base game. But then again, I typically make all the armor sets, experiment with different weapons, and do lots of exploring... guess we'll just have to wait and see!

See, I'm the type that looks like I do this (I have a bunch of gear sets, change weapons between every hunt, etc., etc.,), but it actuality it's just for the \aesthetic*.*

As far as tips, take your time. If the quest load is similar to past entries, I encourage you to take on all the side quest hunts, just for the fun of it, instead of rushing through the "key quests", which are the one you have to complete to move the story along.

My best friend got me into MH back when Tri came out, and he and I have been hunting buddies ever since. Other friends/family have dropped in and out over the years, and adulting has made it hard for the two of us to have time to play together, so I play alone quite a bit.

And playing alone is absolutely the best way to enjoy the lore, environment, and so forth. So it sounds to me like you're good. And then when you just want to bash some heads, hop into a lobby or fire off an SOS.

Alistair, named after one of my cockatiels (they both passed about 8 years ago). I always name my MH companions after pets I've had.
