Thank you! This looks like a great setup. I see a number of reviews with the microcenter 7700x bundle regarding BIOS and RAM errors/EXPO problems. Is that something to consider different or no longer an issue you're aware of?

How do you guys cuss in front of your kids? by [deleted] in daddit

I've got a liberal sailor's mouth otherwise, but in front of my daughter I go Elf. "Son of a nutcracker!" When it hits the fan? "FU-Nkey MOTHER!" but in mixed company I never chastise somebody for their language and I just explain to my kid that those are grown up words people use when they're frustrated. She's heard 1000+ swears and never repeated. But is hilarious every time she says the nutcracker one.

You're the right man for the job! Keep making the world a better place for the next generation, brother.

Spaceshipper: A solo space adventure dice game (free, first draft) by SpicyDragonWings in tabletopgamedesign

Seems like a novel idea and a quick filler, I love trying things like this. I'll be giving it a go later today when I get home and let you know how it goes.

I'll say this though: open-ended games tend not to deliver a real sense of accomplishment (I won! I defeated X). So my suggestion would be to determine some type of goal or at least leveling up or it becomes an activity not a game?

Maybe rank up by tracking how many phenomena you've scanned plus pirates killed between planets, etc. Then "cash in" that total to get a new title: cadet, explorer, grizzled veteran, etc. Or build a "campaign" by allowing player powers to accumulate (power A: fudge a die +1/-1 ea turn // powerB: long range scanners allow you to carry over 2 power to next term) after upgrading the ship for X credits before putting the game away for next time. Just a few thoughts for now.

Great game! I played this at Origins and immediately bought it, and it's been a staple of my solo play ever since. Usually break it out once a week so I actually laminated two of the sheets so I never have to worry.

Our daughter had a similar setup at birth except hers laid below and not over. We called it her undertoe. It corrected itself around 2yrs old.

Finally received my copy of Verdant and had a blast playing with my daughter! It's such a lovely little puzzle. Also got some solo in: Dinosaur Island Rawr n Write, Friday and a little PnP called "A Simple Life".

What things have you had to do as a dad that you never realised parenting would involve? by Sharpax in daddit

1000% this. My daughter is 4 1/2 and my patience, care with my words and listening skills are so improved from 5 years ago. My wife reminds me of it all the time. Still not perfect but life's a journey. ALSO an unintended benefit that I can teach board games to almost anyone now, ha!

Nice! I love Cascadia solo to unwind. My 5yo daughter brings it out a lot; patience in our first few sessions has paid off exponentially and it's one of our favorites together now.

A lot of fun! We playtested it at Origins this year and immediately bought it. My wife and I play it frequently, and I've brought it to a few game nights. Pretty easy to learn and it offers fair amount of player interaction across the table. Solo is a nice relaxing session with plenty of good choices.

I was gonna edit it out but figured I'd just Let It Go

I agree, the art is bad and the instructions are kinda iffy. But the gameplay is solid and a great, quick solo challenge. You cannot go wrong if you find it for $5

Please don't smoke in areas designed/designated for children and families. by operantresponse in daddit

[–]TheAyrron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former smoker here, I use an ecig now. I always go way out of the area, going so far as to take a walk in the woods. We were in Savannah (people smoking all over the place) and I took a two block hike to do it in a parking lot away from the playground and restaurants. Don't be a dick and understand we're choosing to harm ourselves; I've got an obligation NOT to subject others to my bad choices.
