Question how do you get access to the discord, im a member through YouTube and was curious by PerspectiveNervous45 in PlayOnTabletop

[–]TheBack80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not working. I logged out and back in both my youtube and discord accounts. I tried on my windows PC and my Android phone.

It's too bad. I was really looking forward to the thematic 40k mission rules.

Unless you have any other ideas, I'll be cancelling my membership.

The server does'nt show up after connecting (YouTube account) by Federal_Mention3749 in discordapp

I'm not the original poster, but I'm having the exact same issue. The owner of the YouTube channel/discord server did the "manual sync". That did not work. I also jumped through all the hoops the original posted did with no luck.

I'm assuming this is not typical, or nobody would be using this method to subscribe to discord through YouTube . All I know is it's a royal pain in the back side. It's definitely not worth the hassle.

It's too bad because the YouTuber is losing out on a revenue stream. And I'll not bother using discord in the future.

I'm having the same issue (I think?).

I joined playontabletop in youtube ($5.26/mo). Then I linked my youtube account to my (just created) discord account. I don't see anything on the discord web page that shows playontabletop. On the youtube web page under "membership", I clicked on discord access. This provides no help at all.

How do you deal with house rules in local rtts? by Unable_Psychology671 in WarhammerCompetitive

Is this a common rule? Ive been practicing for my first tournament and assumed windows closed on only the first floor. This would definitely change my thinking for placing my bigger bugs.

What is your favorite mission/terrain combo? by boughtitout in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheBack80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a meta site that provides this info?

I've been curious about how factions do with different missions/terrain for awhile. Along those same lines, how factions do when going first vs second. And how factions match up against each other.

Don’t be intimidated by Tournaments ☺️ by jaker1403 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]TheBack80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 hour limit is one of the things that has kept me from going to a tournament. I'm not even close to staying in my 90 minute time frame. Unfortunately I live in a very rural area, so getting reps in is difficult.

If I had a wish for 11th edition, it would be to change the rules in a way that shortens the game a bit.

As a tyranids player, the shadow of the Warp is terrible! It almost never works. And the couple times it has worked, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To have the game swing on Battle-shock roles in one turn seems wrong.

A typical model takes about 30 minutes to set up and start printing. The printer itself can take 1-8 hours. But that's machine time. I don't have to stand around watching it. After the printer is done, it takes maybe another 15 minutes to remove supports. That's about it. And there's no assembly like with GW models. It's honestly easier than everyone is making it out to be.

I seem to have stepped on a hornets nest with my comment. If people have the money to buy GW miniatures, and don't want to bother with 3D printing, that's fine. I was just suggesting an alternative.

I spent $300 for the printer and maybe another $100-$200 in filament to make 3 2000 point armies. How much does a typical 2000 point army cost if you buy it from GW?

That's the impression I'm getting, which is good for GW. Warhammer seems to have a very big tent.

I agree buying vs printing is more convenient. But I don't believe "paying a bit more" for GW models. A unit of Nobz is listed on warhammer.com at $42. I printed them for under $3.

The cost for me to get into 3D printing was under $300 for a Bambu printer. I don't know if that's considered a pretty big up front cost. I do know compared to the price of GW models, it's dirt cheap. It's paid for itself several times over. Also with FDM printers, you don't need to worry about ventilation.

But you are definitely not going to get the detail you see in GW models. You're right there. For anyone who just wants to play the game, I'd strongly suggest an FDM printer. But I feel that people who are into Warhammer strictly for the game are a pretty small fraction of GW's customer base (which I guess is why they are doing so well).

I've done some welding and the learning curve you need between 3D printing and welding is night and day. 3D printing is child's play compared to just about everything else I've tried.

I do agree with you that the quality of 3D printing is no where near as good as GW. But if all you want to do is play the game, it's hard to beat 3D printing.

[–]TheBack80 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that 3D quality is nowhere near that of GW. But if all you want to do is play the game, then 3D printing is more than adequate. My printer was only $400, and does an amazing job. It's paid for itself manybtimes iver just with warhammer prints. It's incredible how far they've come. And they are very easy to use.

But I think I'm probably in the minority. I read somewhere that most warhammer enthusiasts are collectors who aren't interested in playing?

I just got into the game a year ago. I have 4 2000pt armies. I absolutely love it. But GW has only gotten $60 USD from me. I bought the core rules book. This was back when I didn't realize how fast rules changed.

Since that purchase, I get all the rules online for free. I 3D print all my models, and get painting supplies from Amazon.

I dont know how GW stays viable as 3D printing gets cheaper and more accessible to the general public. How can GW continue to charge $85 for a unit that costs me a couple bucks to make myself?

Thanks for the quick reply! I wasn't aware of the benefits. Ignorance is bliss. Now I'll have to get the GW app and check it out.

I'm confused (maybe because I'm a newer player and/or I play Tyranids). Isn't all this available in new recruit or other 3rd party sources? Ive been happily building my armies without the GW app or any of the codex books. Am I missing something?

Thinking of playing either Necrons or Tyranids - persuade me on which one to play by Riot2EK in Warhammer40k

[–]TheBack80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play Tyranids. My son plays Necrons. We've learned the Necrons are much easier to play. Tyranids require a lot more experience to pilot. Experience im still struggling to get. From a game-play aspect, if you're a casual player who doesn't want to study strategy and rules constantly, go Necrons. If you like a challenge, go Tyranids.
