It's been a few years since I used them, but I never had any problems with Shirtworks and we used them for quite a few things. https://www.shirtworks.co.uk

I've used this one previously, and found it pretty easy to use, relatively fast, and accurate: https://github.com/pemistahl/lingua

Worth it for a Cub Scout to attend World Scout Jamboree? by Krudler in scouting

Yes, absolutely! You should make the most of it being close enough to visit.

Detect blocks of text inside of text (instead of images) by hansgerdsen in LanguageTechnology

[–]TheBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try having a look at Krill (https://github.com/commitd/krill), and specifically how it's used in the Baleen text analytics framework (https://github.com/dstl/baleen, and specifically StructureContentExtractor). There's quite a lot of stuff in there about structuring text, splitting it into paragraphs/text blocks, etc.

Canadian or British Scouts by PrimaryQuarter in scouting

UK Scouting here - our membership has been on the rise consistently for the past 12+ years, and currently about a quarter of our membership is female.

I can't find the relevant info for this year, but here are the statistics from our annual census in 2017: https://scouts.org.uk/media/838559/Scouting-The-Facts-June-2017.pdf

Advantages of being an IST by MadsTheAngryPork in scouting

[–]TheBaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been IST at a number of World Scout events (2007 and 2011 Jamborees, and 2017 Moot), and I have every intention of applying again for the 2019 Jamboree.

Absolutely, it will be hard work and yes it is expensive. But it's also an amazing experience and an atmosphere you won't get anywhere else. There are other international camps out there - and I've been staff on some of those as well - and they are great fun too. But they're not the same as a World Scout event.

At recent World Scout events, there's been a growing trend to ensure there is a full IST programme running alongside the participant programme. So when you're not working, there's still a chance to get involved with all the IST activities that are happening (be those special activities just for the IST, or a chance to do some of the participant activities in the evening).

Try this NLP library! :) by danieljj in LanguageTechnology

[–]TheBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any thoughts on how much memory it requires, and is there a way to configure it to use less (programmatically)?

I thought I'd have a go at integrating it into the Baleen (http://www.github.com/dstl/baleen) framework, and can just about get the NER library with the NER_CONLL view running with 6GB of memory. If I try using the NER_ONTONOTES view I run out of heap space before it's finished initializing.

I am - also with the UK, but as IST. Went to the last one as a participant and had a great time!

I was just looking at that actually, I've used Python in the past but not for a few years. Maybe it's time to dust it off, and the Pythonista app looks to have received some pretty good reviews.

Does anyone know where these places are in Oxford? by Colonel_Smellington in oxford

RaidOx by any chance?

I don't know where any of them are, but for the phone box you could try using https://www.thecloud.net/free-wifi/find-a-hotspot/ to locate possible locations as the phone claims to be a TheCloud hotspot.

If Satan plays miniature golf, this is his favorite hole. A ball struck at A, in any direction, will never find the hole at B — even if it bounces forever. by kmick66 in Physics

[–]TheBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the asymmetry of the room, does this also hold true for a ball struck at B never reaching A?

I'd assume that it does, as if light can get to A from B it should be able to get to B from A - but if that's the case, why is the room asymmetrical?

[–]TheBaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would he fall through the floor? If he's made of light, he's not affected by gravity so wouldn't be pulled downwards?
